Helen’s first employment in Racine was with the Roy Case and Fred Young families as a nanny and housekeeper. During World War II, she worked for Hamilton Beach as a “riveter.” After the war, she was united in marriage to William Olson on August 6, 1947. She also was employed as a teller at First National Bank.
Mrs. Olson was a long time, senior member of First Presbyterian Church. She served as a deaconess and in the church choir. She was an avid bicyclist in her youth and enjoyed touring with friends in the countryside. Most of all she enjoyed bowling, golfing and gardening with her husband and family.
Helen will be dearly missed by her daughters, Wendy Killberg of Racine and Cheryl (John) Bailey of Madison; four grandchildren, Benjamin (Jendi) Killberg of Astoria, New York, Katherine (Stephen) Rahaim of Takoma Park, Maryland, Anna and Nel Bailey both of Madison; one great-grandson, Evan Rahaim; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Olson of Kenosha and Irene Olson of Racine; one brother-in-law, Francis Toutant; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; four brothers and one sister.
Memorial services for Helen will be announced after the holidays. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be directed to one’s favorite charity.
