Mary (Christopoulos) Kyriazis

Surrounded by her loving family, Mary (nee: Christopoulos) Kyriazis, 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at her residence. Mary was born on October 4, 1917, in the village of Karyae, Greece. She was the daughter of the late Ioannis and Constantina (nee: Papastavrou) Christopoulos.

On September 20, 1953, she was united in marriage to William T. Kyriazis, who preceded her in death on February 5, 2004. She was an active and charter member for over 50 years in the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church and the Ladies Philoptohos Society. She had been employed with Mamco Manufacturing and Rainfair Incorporated for over 10 years.

Mary was known for her cooking and baking, especially her melomakarona, a Greek sweet. In later years, she took to knitting and crocheting, blessing those around her with blankets, slippers and scarves. She was a tiny woman with a huge heart and a giving spirit. Her family and friends cherished the time they have spent with her and she will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children, Patricia (Dr. Jeffrey) Entress of Brookfield, Ted (Rae Ellyn) Kyriazis of Lake Forest, Ill.; her six grandchildren, Emily, Carolyn, and Alec Entress, William, Christopher, and Amalia Kyriazis. She is further survived by her loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives, as well as her many dear friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Kapolas of Chicago, IL; and her brothers, George Christos of Chicago, IL, and Nick Christopoulos of Karyae, Greece.

Funeral services will be held at the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 1335 South Green Bay Road, on Monday, September 26, 2011, at 10 a.m. with Rev. John Ketchum officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home 1 until 4 p.m. (Trisagion service at 1:30 p.m.).
