Gathered by all who loved her, Ruth A. Wisniewski was born into eternal life on Jan. 25, 2014. The same special day she came into this world to Emory and Julia (Podoba) Romnek, on Jan. 25, 1937.
Ruthie met Norb Wisniewski at the Golden Lantern in Racine, and slipped him her number on the dance floor. They later were married on April 23, 1983, and made their home in Racine. Together they both loved their beautiful yard and volunteering on the activities committee at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
Ruth was passionate about politics, serving in many local, area and national political fronts. For many years she served as a member of UAW local 1007 in the 1960s. Back then she began her efforts working with the unions, having no idea at that point she would forever be driven by passion for social and economic justice.
Ruth was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed gambling. She was always a support to her and Norb’s 11 children, 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grand kids. The fun always began with grandma.
Ruthie was survived by her most loving, dedicated, and kind husband Norbert. Together they traveled, loved ball games, and enjoyed the company of their own brothers and sisters, as well as all of their children. Sandra (Blair) Losee, Michael Iverson, Todd Iverson, Jeff Iverson and Shelly LeCrone, will lovingly miss their mother. Her stepchildren, Carol (John) Russell, Shelly Wisniewski, Bryan (Jamie) Wisniewski, Alan (Linda) Wisniewski, Laura (Michael) Knapek and Joe Wisniewski will also miss her greatly. Lois E. (Leister) Clemins
Surrounded by her loving family, Lois E. Clemins, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at the Elizabeth Residence. Lois was born in Milwaukee, WI, on January 26, 1927, daughter of the late Tobias and Florence (Nee: Gerloski) Leister.
She was a proud graduate of South Division High School “Class of 1945.” On June 22, 1946, at St. Lawrence Church, Milwaukee, she was united in marriage to James A. Clemins, who preceded her in death on May 2, 2003. Lois was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church and TOPS. She enjoyed her card club, crocheting, and sewing. Always full of life and fun, Lois’s most treasured time was spent with her family. She will be deeply missed.
While raising nine mischievous kids almost by herself while dad worked 2-3 jobs, Mom invented the term “multitasking” and consistently made a “silk purse out of a sow’s ear” for decades all for the sake of the kids. In the mornings she would regularly have the laundry going in the basement, homemade bread dough on the rise, hot oatmeal ready on the stove, 5-7 “sack lunches” packed and waiting on the counter top, and notes to the teachers pinned on our jackets.
She knitted all our mittens, scarfs, slippers and later afghans with any yarn she could find at rummage sales within walking distance. She regularly carried on conversations with us solving our problems or breaking up fights while simultaneously crocheting. After talking through the problem she would hand us that handmade mitten or glove and say, “now try that on for size.” In hindsight, her mittens represented her warm heart on our hands, and her scarfs represented her loving arms wrapped around us as we went out into the cold of winter. She routinely pumped the pedal on her old black Singer sewing machine to make dresses and PJs for the girls and also sew patches onto patches onto patches for the boys’ pants. To feed her tribe she was both resourceful and creative.
To stay within her meager budget we ate more than our share of squash, rutabaga, and “cukes” that she would get from a local farmer. During harvest seasons on a Saturday, we routinely went to farms to pick whatever was in season. She would then can or pickle for weeks on end to fill up the shelves in the basement. She invented (and we loved) a concoction of hand ground Spam and “government” cheese spread onto “day old” hamburger buns broiled in the oven. We affectionately called it “Gook.” Equivalent to a moonshiner, in the '60s she would occasionally take the station wagon on a run down to Waukegan to smuggle Oleo (margarine) back into Wisconsin hiding it under the fold down seat in the back.
Mom taught all of us the meaning of a dollar and taught us that if wanted something, we had to work hard for it. She would never pass a penny on the ground without picking it up and saying “it’s a penny more than I had before.” She never forgot a birthday and would let us reach into “the money jar” to take out a handful of change. Wise as she was, the small opening on the jar acted as a governor so that the smallest child/hand actually got the most.
As a woman of faith, she made sure we went to church on Sundays, catechism on Wednesday nights, and receive all of our sacraments through the Catholic Church. Throughout her life, she routinely prayed to St Anthony to help her find lost items etc. To mom, “Tony” solved many of her problems.
Selflessly, she always took the time to ask people how they were doing and then genuinely listened as they shared their pain or problems. Her hellos and goodbyes always included a hug, which is a trait that most of her children carry on to this day. When given a compliment, she usually responded that she could have done better, or done more. Her legacy will live on through her family and all the people she has touched throughout her lifetime.
Survivors include her nine children, Pati Wolfe of CA, Thomas Clemins of Quemado, New Mexico, Peeker Clemins of FL, Elaine “Sweetie”(George) Linn of Racine, Paul (Jill) Clemins of Racine, June Krekling of CA, Joan Clemins of FL, Barbara (Mark) Butkus of Racine, Colleen (Paul) Hawbaker of Kenosha; 25 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 grand-dogs; sister-in-law, Dorothy Leister of Milwaukee; brothers-in-law, Richard Clemins, Walter (Ann) Clemins, Robert Clemins, all of Milwaukee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bob (Lorraine) Leister, Jim (Betts) Leister, Donald Leister; and son-in-law, Jerry Wolfe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church, 1503 Grand Ave., with Rev. Ronald J. Gramza and Rev. Javier Guativa concelebrating. Private interment will be held. Nancy was raised in the Milwaukee area until 1944-45 when the family lived in Oakland, CA, while her father was in the Navy. After the war, her family moved to the Fond du Lac area, where Nancy attended school, graduating from Goodrich High School in 1959. She attended Stevens Point College for two years and worked in Madison, Milwaukee and Fond du Lac in the secretarial field.
On May 6, 1966,
Nancy married Richard Paul Roloff in Fond du Lac. Prior to and during
this time she was an Executive Secretary at Wells Manufacturing and Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac. After the birth of their first child,
Traci, in April 1974, she retired to be a stay-at-home mom. In 1986,
Dick and Nancy started a manufacturing rep business and she was the
Secretary/Treasurer at their home office until their partial
retirement in 2010. Needless to say, a home office afforded her many
hours to indulge in her one great passion, genealogy.
Throughout her
life, she enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing with her parents,
bowling, golfing and traveling (especially to her ancestral homelands
of Ireland, England, Scotland, Poland and Germany). The loves of her
life were her family, genealogy, wolves, the Packers and St. Monica’s
Senior Citizen Home.
Nancy is
survived by her husband, Richard of Racine; two children, Traci L.
Roloff and partner, Adam Yothers of Boston, MA, and Ryan R. Roloff of
Clovis, CA; two grandchildren, Madison Anne Noel Roloff and Marcus
James Roloff of Clovis, CA; one brother, Walter E. Parsons, Jr.
(Dottie) of Fond du Lac; and two nephews, Derek Parsons of Fond du Lac
and Darrin Parsons of North Fond du Lac, WI; one special aunt,
Dorothy Bibby of Zephyrhills, FL; and two cousins, Donna Krueger and Diane Krueger Smrsticks of Black River Falls.
Nancy was
preceded in death by her parents, Walter Earl Parsons on May 14, 1995, and Dorothy Ellen Parsons on August 24, 2008; grandparents, Floyd
DeForest Parsons on November 25, 1973, and Lena Mae Kirsenlohr Parsons
on January 29, 1987; and Martin Frank Pionke on November 19, 1960, and
Elizabeth Ross Pionke on March 26, 1919; one special uncle, Leonard
Bibby of Zephyrhills, FL on December 6, 1997.
Visitation will be at the funeral home
on Tuesday January 21, from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m., with
funeral services at 11:30 a.m. Private interment will take place at
Rienzi Cemetery in Fond du Lac. In accordance with Nancy’s wishes
and in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wild Spirit Wolf
Sanctuary in Ramah, NM, at www.wildspiritwolfsanctuary.org.
Nancy’s family would
like to send a special thank you to Dr. Antony Ruggeri, Dr. Michael
Mullane, the wonderful nurses (angels) at Aurora Oncology and the
staff at Wheaton Franciscan Radiation..

Jacqueline L. Schlaffer, 78, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014. She was born on February 13, 1935, daughter of the late Lillian (Nee: Snyder) and Aloys Klein.
Jackie graduated from Park High School. She worked for various doctors for many years as secretary. She then opened a floral gift shop (The Four Season’s Shop) with her best friend, Bev. Jackie married the love of her life, Anthony J. Schlaffer, on April 21, 1956. Sadly, Anthony passed away about four months ago, on September 13, 2013.
They had their first and only baby, James A. Schlaffer, on February 14, 1960, who Jackie leaves behind and loved dearly. He became the full-time caregiver for both Jackie and Anthony (and sister, Shirley) for over five years. Jackie appreciated her son’s loyalty all this time, preventing them from being in a nursing home. She has a sister, Shirley A. Carls, as well as her husband’s sister, Anne Heidenreich. Jackie is also survived by many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Jackie also leaves behind many close friends, from her childhood to her recent pals at Yuni’s Avenue Café.
Visitation will be held this Thursday, January 16, 2014, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial/service will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, town of Dover, within the next few weeks. Jackie, at her discretion, has asked for money, in lieu of flowers, for her family to use to donate.
Jim would like to thank ALL the healthcare providers who dealt with Jackie throughout this devastating ordeal. Most importantly, Jim would like to thank his family’s close friends, neighbors, and relatives for all their love, faith, and support (especially over the last four months).
