Gary L. Beiley

Gary L. Beiley, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center.  Gary was born in Racine on January 10, 1935, son of the late Louis and Katherine (Nee:  Parsek) Beiley.

On September 19, 1959, at St. Edward Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Bernadette Perkins, who preceded him in death on July 16, 1988. Gary graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.  A very dedicated worker, Gary was  an engineer at J.I. Case Company for thirty-five years, retiring in 1997. An avid outdoorsman, Gary enjoyed hunting and camping with his family. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and be deeply missed.

Survivors include his sons, Jeff (Tracy) Beiley of Buford, GA, Edward Beiley (fiancée, Melissa Biedlingmaire) of Waukesha, Brian Beiley (Marshan Bertoux) of Racine; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Alex, Nic, Brittany, Katelyn and Jaden; nine great-grandchildren; twin sister, Geraldine (Richard) Kroupa of Racine; sister-in-law, Virginia “Gini” Beiley of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Timothy; and brother, Elwood.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014, at noon at the funeral home.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation have been suggested.

Marshall D. Katch

Marshall David Paul Katch, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on September 24, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center.  He was born in Shawano, WI, on April 27, 1944, son of the late Matthias and Helen (Matczak) Katch.

Marshall graduated from Pulaski High School in Pulaski, WI. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Independence during the Vietnam War.

Marshall was a journeyman electrician who retired from In-Sink-Erator.  He was a member of Olympia Brown Unitarian Universalist Church and a 30-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he helped save the lives of countless people. Marshall retired to become a professional grandfather and avid woodworker. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Anne (Conner); four children, Sara Katch, Jason Katch, Jessica (Tim) Smith, Alyssa (Duane) Nagel; stepchildren, Alison Conner, Elizabeth (Matt) Schmid, Renee Whitnall; grandchildren, Tristan Opahle, Brittany (Jordan) Lockhart, Dragon Buckner, Kaitlynn Rouse, Isabella Nagel, Lucas Katch, Joseph Katch, Angelia Nagel, Henry Schmid, Theo Schmid, Kaelin Smith;  brother, Matthias “Butch” (Mary) Katch; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Awe Katch, Pamela (Bruce) Lakatos, Sammie (Dan) Zacara; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael.

A memorial service will be held at Olympia Brown Unitarian Universalist Church, 625 College Ave., on Sunday, September 28, 2014, at 3 p.m., with Reverend Dr. Tony Larsen officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet at the church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until service.  Private interment with full military honors will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Smile Train have been suggested.

John 'Curt' Pippenger

John “Curt” Pippenger, age 72, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center. Curt was born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 7, 1942, son of the late John and Ruth (Nee: Gourd) Pippenger and was raised in Dearborn and Manchester, Michigan.

Curt proudly served his country with the United States Navy. On July 22, 1978, at St. Edward Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Barbara A. Greene.

He was employed as a Field Engineer at NCR Corporation for thirty-seven years. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Educators Credit Union, claiming it was the best job he ever had.

Curt was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Dairyland Theatre Organ Preservation Society, and Snomad Ski Club. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels. An avid traveler and train enthusiast, Curt also enjoyed making stained glass and photography. More than anything, he cherished time with his family. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-six years, Barbara; his children, Daniel (Patricia) Pippenger of Richmond, VA, Lara Leaf (Steve Stolarick) of Highland Park, IL, Rebecca Pippenger (Paul Van Opens) of Baltimore, MD; his five grandchildren, Katie, Ellie, Stuart, Fiona and Benjamin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas (Karen) Greene of Marion, NC; other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Curryer; and his sister, Louise McLean.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at noon at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Ave., with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass at noon. Private interment will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Eagle Harbor, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Meals on Wheels or to St. Vincent de Paul Society have been suggested.

Ernest L. Jones

Ernest L. Jones, age 58, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 22, 2014, at his residence.  Ernest was born in Columbus, Mississippi, on November 25, 1955, son of the late Ernest and Willie (Nee:  Hargrove) Jones.

He was a member of Searching Together Baptist Church.  He enjoyed music, playing baseball and watching westerns with his brother Frank.

Survivors include his children, Rolancia Bogan, Angela Ellis, David Ellis-Jones, Mariah Ellis-Jones, Jordan Jones; three grandchildren, Quadaveon, Destinique and Azari; brothers, Damon and Jerome; sisters, Willie Mae and Flora Jean; step-sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Hargrove, on August 29.

Private services were held.

Ann (Pleshe) Bertermann

Surrounded by her loving family, Ann Bertermann, age 89, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014, at her residence.  Ann was born in Painesdale, Michigan, on July 10, 1925, daughter of the late George and Anna (Nee:  Sechan) Pleshe.

In 1946 Ann was united in marriage to Robert P. Bertermann, who preceded her in death on August 19, 1996.  She was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.  Ann was an avid Packer fan who also enjoyed playing bingo, shopping and hosting the family holiday parties.  Most of all, she was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her children, Sandra (Gordon) Bradshaw, Kathleen (Gary) Greeley,  James (Sheryl) Bertermann; her grandchildren, Allison (Matt) Schmidt-Palmer, Michael Bradshaw, Kimberly Bertermann (fiancé, Jesse Nickrand), Robert (Val) Bertermann; her great-grandchildren, Avery, Luke, Colin and Camden; step-great-grandson, Corbin; loving cousins, Normin Bertermann, Patricia Bertermann; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Pleshe.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 510 Kewaunee St., with Rev. Jack Gilbert officiating.  Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.  Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice have been suggested.

Chester L. Davis

Chester Lee Davis, “Chet,” age 86, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center.  He was born in Kenosha on December 25, 1927, son of the late George and Anna (Nee: Brickner) Davis.

On November 1, 1947, at St. George Catholic Church he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dolores E. Arentz.  Together they raised five children, Michael, Lynne, Phillip, Jodie and Julie. 

Chet farmed in the Union Grove Area for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and was a hard worker who loved sports, especially bowling and golf.  

Chet served on the Paris Town Board, the Ravinia School Board, Midland Co-op Board, the Farmers Grain Board and the Yorkville-Mt. Pleasant Insurance Board.  Above all, Chet was a wonderful husband, dad, and friend.  He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Dolores; three children, Michael (Jill) Davis of Port St. Joe, FL, Lynne (Ted) Davis of Phoenix, AZ, Jodie K. Moore of Waukesha;  four grandchildren, Eric (Greta) Moore, Craig Moore (Ellen), Tanya (Zach) Masella, Aaron Davis (Maria); five great-grandchildren;  sister-in-law, Sue Arentz; brother-in-law, Buster Siewert; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Phillip; his daughter, Julie; sister, Helen (Les) Samuelson; and brother, Wilbert (Eleanor) Davis. 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Private interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials to the Union Grove Yorkville Rescue Squad or St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church have been suggested.

Frank James Hargrove

Frank J. Hargrove, age 57, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014, at his residence. Frank was born in Columbus, MS, on June 8, 1957.

He was employed through the state as a junior conservationist. He had a great passion for nature, gardening, fishing, cooking, history, westerns and Star Trek.  He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his daughter, Nikki Hargrove; brothers, Ernest, Damon and Jerome; sisters, Willie Mae and Flora Jean; close friend, Sammy; step-sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Hargrove; and his uncle, Paul Taylor.
