Mary Alyce Hansen

Mary Alyce (Phillips) Hansen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Golden Living Center, Lansing, KS.  Mary loved life and people.  Her kindness of heart, willingness to listen and encouragement made her a special person to many.  Her quick wit and warm smile will be missed by all that knew and loved her.  May she live on in each of our hearts.

Mary was born on June 17, 1931, in Racine, daughter of George and Edna (Vorpahl) Phillips.  She married Kenneth L. Hansen on February 3, 1951, in Racine.  She lived and worked in Racine the majority of her life.

Mary came to Leavenworth in 1989 to be with her daughter and family.  She is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Ladies Aid.  Mary touched many lives throughout her life with her passion for food, knowledge and talent of crafts, love of collecting cookbooks and recipes, and her contributions to the community.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Ken, September 27, 1965; her parents; brothers, William and John Phillips; and sister, Lois Mae Phillips.  She is survived by her loving daughters, Elizabeth Burris (Timothy) of Spokane, WA, and Laura Elkins (Jerry) of Leavenworth, KS; sisters, Grace DuPree of Glendale Heights, IL, and Kathryn Lindh of Ft. Atkinson, WI; grandsons, Ronald Elkins, Kenneth Elkins, Carl Burris, Joshua Burris and Loren Elkins; great-granddaughters, Fiona, Addison and Delanie Burris; great-grandsons, Cameron, Chase and Corbin Elkins and Seth Burris; cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Services will be at the Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, May 14, 2010, at 1 p.m. with a visitation from noon until service time.  Internment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.  Memorial donations to be given to the St. Paul Lutheran School, 311 N. James Robert Buck

James R. Buck, age 20, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Wauwatosa, WI.   James was born in Racine, September 25, 1989, son of David N. Buck and Margaret A. (Nee:  Maddocks) Buck.

James was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 2008.”  He was employed by Allied Barton as a security guard.  He enjoyed skateboarding, had a passion for music, and a great love for playing his guitar. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his parents, Margaret “Peggy” Buck,  Dave Buck (Roxanne Pfeffer); brother, Scott Buck; sister, Theresa Buck; Roxanne’s children, Alissa Pfeffer and Luke Pfeffer; his grandparents, James and Nancy Maddocks; aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Phil and Sis Buck.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 7, 2010, at 6 p.m. with Rev. Tony Larson officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Friday at the funeral home from 3:30 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m.   Memorials to the family have been suggested as a music scholarship will be established in James’ name at UW-Parkside.

Rosemary M. (Schliesmann) Septon

Rosemary Margaret Septon, age 80, was born into eternal life May 3, 2010, following a long and courageous battle with Leukemia and Spasmodic Torticolis-Dystonia, Rosemary was born in Racine, Wisconsin on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1929, daughter of the late John and Frances (Nee:Loub) Schliesmann.

Rosemary attended St. Rita’s Grade School and won top honors to attend St. Catherine’s High School where she was an active student. She graduated in 1947. In 1951 on her 22nd birthday she married the love of her life, Lyle E. Septon.

First and foremost, Rosemary was a loving and giving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. She was employed by Sears Roebuck and Co. for 15 years and was an active member of the Sears Retiree Club. After retiring from Sears she spent five years working at Christy’s Department Store; her happiest working years. Lyle and Rosemary have been active members of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for more than forty years.

Together with her husband, Rosemary had three children , Gregory (Adria Day) Septon, Peggy (Douglas) Anderson, and Jill (Steven) Hansen. Rosemary was a loving and devoted grandmother to her six grandchildren, Kristin (Ryan) Horn, Emily Anderson, Gregory Anderson USAF, Andrew Hansen, Maggie Jayne Hansen, and Parker Day Septon. Further surviving are her sisters, Elaine (William) Zlevor, Carol (Donald) Robotka; brother, John “Jack” (Nancy) Schliesmann; sister-in-law, Leigh Leudtke; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear friends too numerous to list. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Hagner; and grandparents Frank and Anastasia Loub.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Reverend William Dietzler officiating. Private inurnment with family members will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Catherine’s High School are suggested.

Jennifer Overman Wang

KENOSHA -- Jennifer Overman Wang, 59, formerly of Racine, passed away at Aurora Medical Center, Kenosha, on Monday May 3, 2010. Jennifer Ruth was born in Racine on February 24, 1951, the daughter of John Henry and Arlene Betty (nee: Hansen) Overman.

She was a Washington Park High School graduate “Class of 1969” and went on to further her education, graduating from UW-Parkside “Class of 1978.” Jennifer was employed as a nursing instructor at Evanston Hospital for several years. She found great enjoyment in knitting, playing guitar and most anything “crafty.”

Jennifer is survived by her son, Peter John Wang of Kenosha; one sister, Leah (Raymond) Britson of Whitewater; four brothers, James Overman of Delafield, John (Jan) Overman, Joel (Jackie) Overman of Racine and Mike Overman of Greenfield. She is further survived by nieces and nephews, Kelly, Brian, Kyle, Aaron, Brett, Natalie, Daniel and Becky, along with several great-nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her parents, John and Arlene.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 3 p.m. with Rev. James Barsch of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection officiating. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. Jennifer will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park next to her parents in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Jennifer’s son, Peter would be greatly appreciated.

Jennifer’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to the entire staff at Heartland Health Care Center-Washington Manor, and Aurora Medical Center-Kenosha for the fine care given to Jennifer during her illness.

Nancy E. (Fleeger) Herman

Nancy E. Herman (Nee: Fleeger) was born in Butler County, PA, October 22, 1943, and passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Medical Center on Sunday, May 2, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was one of four daughters born to Walter and Esther Fleeger of Butler, PA.

Nancy married James Smith in 1958 and to this marriage two daughters were born, Robin and Rena.  She later married Gene Herman in June 1967 and to this marriage another daughter was added, Regena.

Mom moved to Racine in 1961 and was employed at Pee Wee’s Restaurant.  She later began working at Greene Manufacturing, retiring from there in 1999. 

Mom was an avid Cubs fan, hardly ever missing a game.  At any given time of day, Mom would be doing her crossword puzzles.  She enjoyed going to the Animal Crackers Jazz Concerts at the Racine zoo, and traveling back east to visit family and friends.  After retirement, she enjoyed going to Florida during the winter months.

Mom had many words of wisdom -- sometimes told in the most colorful of ways.  You knew she meant business but could laugh with her about it anyway.  Mom will be sadly missed by those of us who loved her.  She will also be remembered for her strong love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 42 years, Gene; her three daughters, Robin (Robert) Quam, Rena (Michael) Petersen, and Regena Herman, all of Racine; her step-son, David Herman of Arkansas; six grandchildren, Melissa (Rob) Meeks of Cornelius, NC, Robert Quam (fiancée Samantha Shuman) and Sarah Quam (fiancé Caleb Eeg), Nicole (Don) Motley, Erin Petersen of Milwaukee and Emelia Petersen; seven great-grandchildren, Peyton, Sam and Ethan Meeks of Cornelius, NC, Cameron and Carsen Eeg, and Macy and Eva Motley.  She is also survived by three step-grandchildren, Alicia (Brynn) Patton of Colorado, Brittany Dummitt of California and Angelina Herman of Missouri, two step- grandchildren, Ashlynn and Brody Patton.  She is further survived by three sisters, Kay Cannon of Missouri, Janet Wilson and Carol Hubbell of Pennsylvania; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack (Maggie) Herman of Racine, Judy (Donald) Beranek of North Prairie, WI; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles.  Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Esther, and her stepchildren, Steven and Christine Herman.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service. 

    The family wishes to thank the staff at the Cancer Center as well as Hospice Care on Unit 2D at Wheaton Franciscan for  the kind and compassionate care given to Mom during her illness.

Margaret M. 'Marge' (Sutherland) Nielsen

With her loving family by her side, Margaret M. Nielsen, age 91, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare.  Margaret was born in Iron Mountain, MI, March 28, 1919, daughter of the late Simpson and Esther (Nee:  Norgren) Sutherland. 

On August 9, 1943, in Rockford, IL, she was united in marriage to Clary Nielsen, who preceded her in death on April 16, 1979.  Marge was employed by Oster Manufacturing for twenty years and she and her husband owned and operated Clary’s Service Station on Washington Avenue for fifty years.  She had attended Calvary Memorial Church.   Marge took great pride in gardening and maintaining her home.   She loved her family, especially her grandchildren who were always her top priority.  She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include  her daughter, Pamela (Dan) Klopp of Racine; her grandchildren, Justin Klopp of West Bend, Jordanna Klopp of Racine; brother, Al Sutherland of Iron Mountain, MI; nieces, nephews, special friends, Don, Margaret and Michael Klopp; other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sally Jones; brothers, Elmer, Wally and Joe; and sisters, Violet and Eva; and dear sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Tanta” Hilker. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the funeral home with Rev. David Baugher officiating.  A reception will follow.  Interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park Thursday at 11 a.m.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.  Memorials to the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial Fund, (NLEOMF) 901 E Street Northwest Suite 100, Washington D.C. 20004 have been suggested.

Ruth Marie (Sorenson) Hudec

Ruth M. Hudec, age 92, passed away Saturday evening May 1, 2010, at Oakridge Care Center in Union Grove.  Ruth was born in Racine October 24, 1917, daughter of the late Bernhardt and Caroline (nee: Balzer) Sorenson.

Ruth was married to Anthony J. Hudec, who preceded her in death in 1972. She attended Grace Church. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her brother Melvin Sorenson of San Diego, CA; other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, Tony, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Walter.

Private services were held.
