Arne B. Moeller

Arne B. Moeller, nee Arne Balk-Möller, 85, passed away January 5, 2011. He was born October 6, 1925, in Malmö, Sweden, and completed school and business school there.

In 1952, he sailed to the USA to see the country and was invited to visit Racine by his cousin, Axel Moeller, president of Moeller Manufacturing. He became interested in running a small business and later became president of Ludwig Manufacturing. The company manufactured snap fasteners for which Arne found many new uses.

In 1957, he met Mary Lou Hanson at a welcome dance for new teachers. Four years later they were wed in Stockholm, Wisconsin, the ancestoral home of her great grandfather. Arne enjoyed playing golf and was a member of a golf club in each of the three towns where he owned a home: Racine, Wisconsin, Longboat Key, Florida, and Falsterbo, Sweden. He loved to play chess, and go for long walks on the beach.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; his sister, Åse Keller; and brother, Ulf Balk-Möller.

Arne enjoyed the wonderful caregivers from Home Instead and Comfort Keepers. He spent the last weeks of his life in Ridgewood Care Center, where he had good treatment and food. He made much progress in walking with Eric Johnson at Home Harbor. He wished to be cremated and his cremains brought to Falsterbo, Sweden, and scattered with his father’s. That will be next spring. Memorials to the Prairie School have been suggested.

Andrew 'Andy' John Miller

In loving memory of Andrew “Andy” John Miller, age 52, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 4, 2011. He was born in Racine on April 4, 1958, son of the late John R. and Mary Katherine (Nee: Gordon) Miller. Andy was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1976.” He honorably served in the United States Army and then resided in Racine until his passing. Andy will be fondly remembered by many people whom he touched with his “heart of gold.”

Survivors include his sisters and brothers, Linda Miller of Gold Canyon, AZ, Gordon (Karel) Miller of Vancouver, B.C., Susan Miller of Redondo Beach, CA, Stephen (Ilnam) Miller of Colorado Springs, CO, Ted (Trish) Miller of Franklin, WI; Scott (Co-Co) Miller of Raymond, WI, Julie (Matt) Barootian of Racine, WI; nieces and nephews, Hannah, Rielly, Jackie, Brett, Hudson, Libbie, Hailey, Elena and Keelie; other relatives and many dear friends.

Private services will be held. Memorials to HALO or to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Food Pantry have been suggested.

John Harry Barootian

John Harry Barootian, 56, passed away on January 3, 2011, in Niagara Falls, NY. He was born in El Paso, Texas on August 10, 1954. He graduated from Case High School in 1972. He was a social worker for the state of New York.

He is survived by his father, John (Eileen); and his three siblings, Steve (Dawn) of Racine, Janet of Bristol, WI, and Karen of Madison, WI; his nephew, Nicholas Barootian of Prairie du Chien, WI; and niece, Maren Barootian of Duluth, MN; aunts and uncles; and his close friend, Sean McCloskey of Niagara Falls. He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Barootian-LaPlante.

A private family memorial service will be held in the near future. Memorials to St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 4605 Erie St., Racine, WI 53402 have been suggested.

Grace (Toms) Hendrickson

Grace Hendrickson, age 98, passed away Friday, December 31, 2010, at The Arboretum, Menomonee Falls, WI. Grace was born in Linn County, Iowa, May 10, 1912, daughter of the late Liston and Gladys (Nee: Dennis) Toms. She had been a resident of Racine from 1952 until June of 1994 when she moved to Menomonee Falls.

On August 2, 1932, she was united in marriage to Oliver Hendrickson, who preceded her in death in 1984. Prior to her marriage, Grace was a school teacher for a number of years. While living in Racine she was employed by St. Mary’s Hospital as a Ward Clerk for many years until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, G. Earl (Jane) Henrickson; son-in-law, Jerry Baumgardt; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister, Thelma Seekamp; half-sister, Gale Landis; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her eldest son, Oliver Ellis Hendrickson; her daughter, Karen Marie Baumgardt; one brother, Harold; and sisters, Leatha, Fern, Hilda and Hazel.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 728 Villa St., with Rev. Paul Huebner officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.

Cora M. (Walton) Wonders

Cora M. Wonders, age 94, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at the Claridge House, Kenosha. Cora was born in Vinegar Hill, IL, January 27, 1916, daughter of the late John and Hazel (Nee: Hocking) Walton and had been a Racine resident since 1942.

On January 14, 1935, she was united in marriage to Sherman G. Wonders who preceded her in death on December 29, 1982. Cora worked for many years with her family at Hillside Bowling Lanes. She was a member of the Methodist Church. An avid Brewer fan, excellent baker, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Cora cherished time spent with her family. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, John (Glendene) Wonders of St. Louis, MO, Richard Lee (Kristine) Wonders of Racine; her grandchildren, John Wonders, Jr., Jeffrey (Katie) Wonders, James (Margie) Wonders, Jason (Carrie) Wonders, Joshua (Dawn) Wonders, Cheryl (Jeremy) Johnson, Jenny Wonders; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; brothers and sisters, Thomas Walton, Delmar Walton, Marietta (Joseph) Gleason, Mildred Hall; sister-in-law, Jewel Walton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Christina Marie; brothers and sisters, James Walton, Leslie Walton, Lloyd Walton, Arnold Walton, Hazel Spore, and Dorothy Lancaster.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 3, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home with Chaplain Gary Ruckman officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Monday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m.

Allan H. Peters

Allan H. Peters, age 64, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2010, at his residence. Allan was born in Racine, December 12, 1946, son of the late Henry L. and Margaret C. (Nee: Kluge) Peters and was a lifelong resident of Racine.

Allan was employed by Johnson Outboard for a number of years, last working at Racine Unified. An avid outdoorsman and sportsman, Allan enjoyed fishing, golfing and bowling. He will always be remembered for his patriotism and his ability to fix anything. Above all, he cherished time with his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his children, Corrine (Robbie) Baer, Matthew (Tonya) Peters; his four grandchildren, Brooke and Brandon Baer, Brody and Brett Peters; sister, Cynthia (Kevin) Smith; brother, Donald (Susan) Peters; former wife and best friend, Cecilia Peters; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David Andrews. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until time of service.

William Edward 'Bill' Hile Jr.

William E. Hile Jr., 70, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center.

He was born in Evanston, IL, on Oct. 11, 1940, to the late William E. and June (nee: Robinson) Hile, Sr. He lived his early years in Barrington, IL. He was very involved in scouting. He graduated from Barrington High School where he played in the high school band. He was an undergraduate at Purdue University and received his MBA from Michigan. On Dec. 10, 1988, he was united in marriage to the former Nell J. Rasmussen. He was employed at the Marshfield Clinic as an SAS computer programmer retiring in 2003.

Mr. Hile was an avid reader and lifelong Republican. He was an accomplished trombonist, and marched and played in the Purdue marching band. He was a very kind and helpful person. He was a family man but, most importantly, he was a devoted husband and caregiver to his wife. He also loved his dog, Candy.

Bill is survived by his wife, Nell Hile; one daughter, Andrea (Justin) Rucks; two step-daughters, Linda (Rick) Maroda, Pam (Steve) Miller; eight grandchildren, Rob (Jenny) Long, Tanya (Dwayne) Kittell, Jenny (Bryan) Darr, Heather (Marko) Stanosevic, Josh Maroda, Ashley Miller, Gregory Rucks, Genevieve Rucks; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry (Bernita) Hile, one sister-in-law, Melody Hile; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Hile.

A memorial service will be held at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center in the Fireside Room, 1700 C. A. Becker Drive, on December 29, 2010, at 6 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 5 until the ceremony.
