Fred Roger Sorensen

STURTEVANT- Fred Roger Sorensen, 87, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare -All Saints.

He was born in Racine on Aug. 28, 1921, and lived all of his life in Racine, except for his time in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served in the Navy from November 1942 until early 1946. He served on a troop transport ship in both the European and Pacific Theaters of Operations.

On July 9, 1955, he was united in marriage to Norita ‘Rita’ Joan Wilson at St. John's Lutheran Church in West Allis. He was employed by Twin Disc Inc. for 41 years as a tool maker, retiring in 1983.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Norita; daughter, Anita (Don) Ford; sons, Karl (Steve Weigel), Eric (Deb); and grandchildren, Jessica (Josh Corcoran) Ford, Jordan Ford, Sara Sorensen; two great- grandchildren, Ryan and Mya; sister, Constance McGovern of Traverse City, MI; brothers, Walter (Lucille) Sorensen of Racine and Louis (Mary Lou) Sorensen of Janesville. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helmuth and Marie (nee: Kirkegaard) Sorensen; brother, Richard; sister, Gladys Rohan; brothers-in-law, Rodney Rohan and Dr. Jack McGovern; great niece, Jenna Sorensen.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, December 5, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until time of service.

Memorials are suggested to Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, 2700 Chestnut Street, Chester, PA 19013 or the charity of your choice.

Walter W. 'Wally' Andersen

Kenosha -- Walter W. Andersen, 75, went to be with his Lord in heaven on November 30, 2008. Walter was born in Bruce, WI, on September 24, 1933, son of the late Alfred and Celia (nee: St. John) Andersen.

Walter served in the U.S. Air Force. On April 18, 1968, he was united in marriage to Jean A. Smith. Wally was employed with Borden Dairy for over twenty seven years and most recently with the Milwaukee Metro Auto Auction. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife of forty years, Jean; daughter, Shelly (Jim) Pinter; stepchildren, Emily (Richard) Day, Sherry (Gordy) Simanek, Daniel (Theresa) Mullenberg; grandchildren, Jasmine, Javis, Rickey, Heidi, Jason, Jessica, Gordy, Troy, Danielle, and Chad; great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Robert (Joyce) Andersen, Larry (Mary Ann) Andersen, Lillian (Peter) Zimmer, Eunice Riddick; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Wally was also preceded in death by his brother, Jim, and brother-in-law, Henry Riddick.

Funeral services will be held at First Assembly of God Church, 10700 75th St., Hwy 50, Kenosha, on Thursday December 4, 2008, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dan Remus officiating. Interment with Military Honors onors will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Marvel M. Smith

Marvel M. (nee, Zehrt) Smith, 98, passed away at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center on Sunday, November 30, 2008.

Marvel was born in Caledonia on June 23, 1910, to Frank and Mary (nee, Eggert) Zehrt. She married Richard H. Bethge, II who preceded her in death. Marvel then married John P. Smith who also preceded her in death. Marvel retired from Racine County where she worked at the former Highridge Care Center. She was a member of the BPW, and was an avid outdoors person and fisherwomen.

Marvel is survived by her grandchildren, Madeline M. (nee, Bethge) Banach and Leo P. (Carolyn) Bethge; great-grandchildren, Nicole M. Banach, Tyler S. Banach, Nicolas A. Bethge and Olivia M. Bethge; and her sister-in-law, Lela Zehrt. Marvel is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard H. Bethge, III; daughter-in-law, Juanita Bethge; sister, Laverne Pistulka; brothers, Richard Zehrt, Frank Zehrt and Rev. Carlton Zehrt; and another sister at a young age.

Funeral services for Marvel will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 5, 2008, at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Green officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.

Elmer Hugh Beatty

Fayetteville, NC - Elmer Hugh Beatty, 74, born April 25, 1934, in Lowry City, MO, the son of Harry Hugh Beatty and Rosa Elizabeth(Burdick) Fritchen-Beatty.

Before his passing, this is Elmer’s dictation: My basic training was at St. John Nepomuk School in Racine, Wisconsin. I graduated in 1949. I continued my education at St. Catherine’s High School. I left high school at age 17 and joined the Marine Corps where I served in the Korean War; from there I returned to high school under the G.I. Bill and received my diploma in 1955. I then returned to my soldiering career, joining the U.S. Air Force and was trained as a jet engine mechanic.

There were dance studios near the bases and I was able to continue my dance lessons. Due to health reasons it was necessary for me to leave the Air Force. I went to Arthur Murray's and completed my dance lessons. Being armed with my bronze trophy, I taught in the Wisconsin area for Arthur Murray. I went to Walker Manufacturing and was given a job in the mail room. I soon transferred to an office position where I worked until my job was eliminated by IBM. I then took a job at American Motors Corporation, where I worked as a shop steward in Department 838. During the change over/layoff I used my training received in the Marine Corps as a Radio Operator and landed a job with Halicrafters as a calibration lab technician until family health reasons relocated me to Phoenix, Arizona. My training as a jet engine mechanic landed me a job at Air-Research in the overhaul and repair department; from there I went to Todd Shipyards in Seattle, Washington, while managing an apartment complex. An injury at the shipyard left me disabled, and I returned to Racine to live with my brother. Upon my brother's passing I returned to Phoenix and spent the last five years happily helping at the Manzanita Senior Center. Being stricken with cancer I went to live with my son, Edward, in North Carolina to spend my remaining days with family and especially my newest grandson, Little Zack.

Elmer passed away on November 30, 2008, and went to his rewards.

Services for Elmer will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Union Grove on Friday, December 5, 2008, at noon with full military honors. Interment will follow. For those who wish to join with the family in procession to the cemetery, we ask that you meet at the funeral home on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m.

Robert F. Pfister

Union Grove – Robert Francis Pfister, 88, passed away at the Wisconsin Veteran's Center, Boland Hall, in Union Grove on Saturday, November 29, 2008.

Robert Pfister was born in Racine to the late Francis and Emma (nee: Bergstrom) Pfister on November 18, 1920, and lived in Racine all his life. In Racine, he was united in marriage to Adleline D. Tessmann on January 18, 1947. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2005.

Mr. Pfister was a founding member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He served in the United States Army in Germany during World War II. He was employed at Twin Disc for 19 years retiring in 1984. He was an outdoors man enjoying boating, fishing and camping, but most of all he was an avid motorcyclist. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle until he was 78 years of age.

Robert is survived by three children, Kathy (Richard) Pfister-Minogue of LaGrand, Oregon, George (Jennie) Pfister, and William (Mary) Pfister, both of Racine; five grandchildren, Tara, Katelyn, Jon (Molly), Julie (Scott), and Jeremy (Abby); eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dick (Gwen) Pfister of Virgina and James Pfister of Racine; one sister, Helen (Raymond) Kucharski of Arizona; one sister-in-law, Joan Pfister; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Francis Pfister.

Funeral services will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday evening, December 4, 2008, at 6 p.m. with Rev, David Behling officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove on Friday morning, December 5, 2008, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4 until 6 p.m.

Gladys L. Helding

Gladys L. Helding, 91, passed away at Oakridge Care Center on Friday, November 28, 2008.

Gladys was born in Raymond Center on June 24, 1917, to Adolph and Lillian (nee, Becker) Steinmueller. She married Harvey Helding on September 25, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1986. Gladys was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Caledonia and had been a volunteer for St. Rita’s School and St. Luke’s Hospital.

Survivors include her sons, Richard (Andrea) Helding of Payson, AZ, and Robert (Donna) Helding of Caledonia; grandchildren, Kristine (Henry) Kucera, Judy (Michael) Ball, Dee Ann (David) Larsen, David (Karen) Helding and Ethan Helding; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Samuel Kucera, Dakota Larsen and Jesse and Erin Ball; and her sister, Dorothy Chovan of Bonita Springs, FL. Gladys is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Judith Ann Helding in 1960; and son Ronald Helding in 1997.

Funeral services for Gladys will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 7900 Nicholson Road, on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Emile Burgess officiating. Lois E. Russo

Lois E. Russo, 86, died on Friday, November 28, 2008.

She was born in Racine on October 14, 1922, the daughter of the late William and Clara (nee: Lang) Gehm.

On October 17, 1942, she married Anthony R. Russo in Racine. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1998. Mrs. Russo was a member of Countryside Humane Society. She enjoyed cooking, doing crafts, and knitting.

Surviving are her children, Marilyn (James H.) Benson and Jeffrey W. Russo; grandsons, Robert (Darlene) Benson of Yorkville, James J. (Tammy) Benson of Roseville, IL; great-grandchildren, Jonah, Anthony, Aaron, Jamie; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kara Baylor officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Servando Rios 'Junior' Moreno Jr.

Following a long illness, Servando Rios Moreno Jr., age 41, entered into eternal life on Thanksgiving evening November 27, 2008. Servando was born in Racine on July 19, 1967, son of the late Servando Rios Moreno who died in 1997 and Anna Marie (nee: DeLaO) Moreno.

Servando, or Junior as he was affectionately known, was an outstanding student and proud graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1987.” He previously attended St. Edward’s Grade School, Wadewitz Grade School and McKinley Junior High School. He was employed with Color Arts for ten years. Junior was a lifelong member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church and in his younger years was an altar boy.

He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed basketball and baseball. Junior was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, especially the cheerleaders. He loved to dance and sing. He loved attending his brother’s softball games and was his #1 fan of anything he accomplished. Servando will forever be remembered for his courage through adversity, his tenacity, his sense of humor and general love of life. Servando, his mother Anna and his brother Michael shared a unique world together and it will truly sadden them to see their “third musketeer” leave this world. He will be dearly missed but forever in our hearts.

Carolyn Gemmel

Carolyn Gemmel, 69, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2008. She was born on April 19, 1939, in Racine, the daughter of Dean and Elfreda (nee: Hermansen) Gemmel.

Carolyn is survived by one sister, Doris Kammien of Highland, CA, nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ann Peyton, and one brother,William Gemmel Sr.

Peter Paul Sheean

Peter Paul Sheean, 80, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 26, 2008.

Peter Sheean was born in Reliance, Wyoming, on October 12, 1928, and had lived in Sturtevant and Racine for most of his life. In Racine, he was united in marriage to Shirley Webb.

Mr. Sheean was the owner of Ever-Shur Manufacturing from 1963 until his retirement in 1995. He was a hard-working man and family was very important to him. He enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas and was a life-long New York Yankees fan.

Peter is survived by his three sons, John (Mary), Mark, and Rob; one grandson, Peter; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bonnie (William) Fox ; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents; and his three brothers.

According to Mr. Sheean's wishes, a private service was held.

Robert E. Vogel

Robert E. “Bob” Vogel, 83, passed away peacefully at his residence, on Tuesday November 25, 2008, with his family at his side. Bob was born in Jefferson on April 18, 1925, the son of Linus and Coletta (nee: Rueth) Vogel. He was united in marriage to Margaret L. (nee: Carlino) Brusha on January 27, 1973.

Bob retired from Racine Unified School District after more than 30 years of service. He found great enjoyment in bowling, in which he participated in for more than 40 years. Bob also enjoyed walking at Regency Mall and working with his hands, especially woodworking which he did for many years. Bob was a wonderful husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Terri (Bill) Barke of California; step-children, Linda (Andy) Georgian, also of California, Michael (Maria) Brusha of Italy and Mary Ann Fraga of Racine; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry (Dorothy) Vogel and Clarence Vogel all of Jefferson. Bob is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends; including his special dogs, Candy and Chewy.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Krumin; son, John Vogel, and his parents.

Funeral services honoring Bob’s life will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Sunday, November 30, 2008, at 3 p.m. with Rev. John Aiello officiating. Private burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested by the family.

Henrietta 'Etta' Kowalsky

Henrietta "Etta" R. Kowalsky (nee: Holzschuh), 90, passed away on November 25, 2008, at her residence.

Etta was born on October 2, 1918, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer J. and Mary Ann (nee: Duwell) Holzschuh.

She was united in marriage to Clarence Kowalsky, on October 5, 1940, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Racine, WI. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1995. Clarence and Etta lived in Racine until 1968, when they moved to Hickory Haven Mobile Home Park in Union Grove. In 1999, she moved back to Racine to live with her daughter.

She is survived by a sister, Mildred Majchrowitz of Racine; a daughter, Kathleen Mary Solberg (nee: Kowalsky) of Racine; a son, William H. Kowalsky and daughter-in-law, Carolyn (nee: Wells) Kowalsky of Laguna Niguel, CA.; grandchildren: Michael John Solberg and David Mathew Kowalsky; sisters-in-law, Margaret Holzschuh of Colonial Heights, VA, and Elaine Kohl of Racine; many nieces and nephews; and her two constant companions, her Siamese cats, Charlie and Toby. Also preceding her in death are a sister, Alma Theresa Valley, and a brother, John Anton Holzschuh.

Etta graduated from St. Catherine's High School. She had worked at Hamilton Beach and Oster Mfg. for a number of years. She was a member of both St Roberts Church in Union Grove and, more recently, St. Lucy's.

Etta was a voracious reader and a great fan of mystery novels. Friends and relatives will remember her for all the wonderful meals she prepared for them. There was nothing quite as good as Etta's pot roast and homemade pies. She will be greatly missed by all her dear friends and relatives.

In accordance with Etta’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at 5:30 p.m. in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Tuesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Memorials to the Arthritis Foundation have been suggested by the family.

Susan L. Toll

Susan L. Toll, age 56 passed away Monday, November 24, 2008, at her residence. She was born in Zanesville, OH, on May 21, 1952, daughter of the late Charles and Alice “Polly” (Nee: Hocking) Toll.

Susie was employed by Roeschen’s Pharmacy for 30 years. She was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church and was an avid Buckeye’s fan. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her brothers and sisters, Tom Toll of Union Grove, Mary (Dennis) Rosa of Chicago, Terry (Suzanne) Toll of Racine, Jay (Lynn) Toll of Racine, Mark Toll of Racine; nieces and nephews, Robbie, Stephanie, Dawn Renee, Kelly, Jenny and Peter; great-nephew, Hayden; great-niece, Ella; other relatives and friends. Michael G. Gedemer

Michael G. Gedemer, age 58, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Michael was born in Racine on June 5, 1950, son of the late Jerome and Loretta (Nee: Brown) Gedemer.

He served in the United States Army for two years. Michael was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School Class of 1968. Furthering his education, he graduated with a degree in History from the University of St. Thomas, MN. Michael was employed by Styberg Engineering for nearly thirty years. He was an avid sports fan. Above all he loved being with his family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his two sons, Scott Gedemer and Brian Gedemer, both of Racine; brother, Charles (Ann) Gedemer of Franksville; two sisters, Marilyn (Richard) Hasselbrink of Racine, Patricia (William) Albro of CA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Private services were held with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to the Oncology Alliance Philanthropy Fund, 1055 North Mayfair Road, Suite 200, Milwaukee, WI 53226 have been suggested.

Marjorie A. (Van Marter) Schmoll

Marjorie A. Schmoll, 77, passed away on Sunday November 23, 2008, at Wheaton- Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Marjorie was born in Racine on January 26, 1931, daughter of the late Paul and Alice (nee: Cramblet) Van Marter and had been a lifelong resident.

On September 14, 1957, she was united in marriage to Raymond E, Schmoll, who preceded her in death on September 3, 1994. Marjorie enjoyed her thirty five-plus years of employment caring for babies at St. Luke’s Hospital in the NICU until her retirement in 1993. Marjorie was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughter Karrie (Vic) Spicer; two granddaughters, Kellie Phillips (Chris)and Kara Phillips, all of Racine; brothers and sister, Paul (Sam) Van Marter of Beloit; Carol (Tom) Longo of Antioch, IL, Wes Van Marter of Merillan, WI; sister-in-law, Marilyn Nechuta of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Marjorie was also preceded in death by her sister, Gladys “NeNe” Van Marter.

Lynn 'Tyrone' Morgan

Lynn “Tyrone” Morgan, 35, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 23, 2008. He was born in Clarksdale, MS, on March 11, 1973, the son of Lynn Thornton Jr. and Annie Morgan. He attended Coahoma County Public Schools and graduated while living in Texas. Tyrone was on the sales staff of Frank Boucher Chrysler.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children Kamryn Deane Morgan and Kodee Lynn Morgan; parents, Annie Self of Racine and Lynn Thornton Jr. of Bruce, MS; his fiancée Terry whom he was to marry on Nov. 29, 2008; and close friend Christopher. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends further survive him. His sister Jeanette Morgan preceded him in death.

His memorial service will be held in Trinity United Missionary Baptist Church, 306 – 5th St., on Wednesday, December 3, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Buddy O. Vinson officiating. Robert Charles Keenan

Robert Charles Keenan, 84, passed away at the Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, OK, on Saturday, November 22, 2008.

A lifetime resident, Bob was born in Racine on September 12, 1924, to the late Leroy D. and Adelia (nee: Gall) Keenan. He proudly served our country with the United States Army during WWII in England, France and Germany from 1943-1946, On April 12, 1947, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Catherine T. Lukawski, who preceded him in death on March 20, 2003.

After returning from the Army, Bob was employed by Massey-Harris. Shortly after, he began a 29-year career with the City of Racine. He retired in 1989 as the head groundskeeper of Washington Park Golf Course.

For many years, Bob was a tirelessly devoted parishioner of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where he served as an usher and building supervisor. When St. Stan’s closed in 1997, he became a member of St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church. Bob was also a member of the City of Racine 20-Year Club and life-member of the VFW Post 1391. His favorite pastimes were tending to his family and serving his church.

Surviving are his children, David (Katharine) Keenan, Sr. of Racine; Kathleen (Richard) Lane of Norman, OK; Dennis (Mary) Keenan of Racine; and Barbara (Melvin) Jarrell of Bloomfield, MO; grandchildren, David Keenan, Jr., Rebecca (Mike) Friedel, Brenda Keenan, Nicole (James) Robb, Tracy (Jason) Simpson, Richard (Chrystal) Lane, Jr., Carrie (Chris) Pierce, Robert Reyes, Michael Keenan, Daniel Keenan, Phillip Jarrell, Teresa (Louis) Klevin and Pamela Jarrell; 17 adored great-grandchildren; brother, Leroy (Farrell) Keenan; sister, Ruth King; sister-in-law, Rose Marie (George) Kroes; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Jean (Herbert) Calverly; sister-in-law, Delores (Leo) Janikowski; and brother-in-law, Robert King.

Gerald Lyle Horner, Sr.

Franksville – Gerald L. Horner, Sr., 71, passed away at his home with his family by his side, on Saturday, November 22, 2008.

Gerald was born in Racine on December 19, 1936, to Varley James and Emma Jane (nee, Bones) Horner. He married the former Mary Zawacki in South Milwaukee on December 26, 1959. Gerald retired from Toledo Scale and Merke Displays. He enjoyed farming, traveling, raccoon hunting and his trains.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Mary Horner; children, Gerald L. Horner, Jr. and Christine (Jason T.) Horner-King; and his sisters and brother, Susan (William) Heidingsfelder, Sally Martinelli, Carol (John) Brock, Richard (Georgia) Horner and Mary Jo (Robert Horner) Hart. Gerald is also survived by many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Courtland Horner.

Hazel Iselin

Hazel Iselin, age 97, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2008, at her residence. Hazel was born in Racine, September 13, 1911, the last and 10th child of the family of William and Mary (Nee: Buchmann) Iselin.

Hazel attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1929.” She was employed by Gold Medal Furniture for forty-two years, retiring in 1977 as Executive Secretary and Accountant. Hazel belonged to numerous clubs and organizations including: Catholic Woman’s Club, St. Ann & Joachim Society, Thomist Association, Apostolate of Suffering, Century Families of Racine, Daughters of Isabella and Racine Heritage Museum. She also volunteered at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Catherine’s Infirmary, St. Monica’s Senior Citizen Home, All Saints Auxiliary, and was a Girl Scout Leader for many years. She will be sadly missed.

Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by nine sisters and brothers, Rose (John) Seitz, Willard (Georgia) Iselin, Earl (Elsie) Iselin, Harry (Rose) Iselin, Ray (Kate) Iselin, Ada Iselin, Ruth (Clarence) Weyker, Walter (Marie) Iselin, and Myrtle Iselin.

Kathleen Ann Burge

Kathleen Ann Burge, 60, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Saturday November 22, 2008. She was born in Bloomington, Illinois, on April 17, 1948, the daughter of Gerald and Helen (nee: Johnson) Burge.

Kathleen was a Wm. Horlick High School graduate “Class of 1966.” She attended Racine Bible Church, and Evangelical United Methodist Church. Kathleen enjoyed cross-stitch, sewing, listening to a variety of music, and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Kathleen is survived by her mother, Helen Burge; sisters, Carolyn Burge, located in Burkina Faso, West Africa, Serving In Missions (S.I.M.), Sue (John) Marton and their children, Erica and Jacob, Barbara “Bobbie” Sawyer and her children, Keri (Brian) Fosse, Andrew, Eric, and Molly Sawyer; and one brother, James Burge. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Burge, in 2002.

George T. Scripko

George T. Scripko, age 76, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2008, at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. George was born in Racine on March 27, 1932, son of the late Theodore and Marie (Nee: Kubatova) Scripko.

George was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1950.” During the Korean conflict he served in the 128th Squadron of the United States Air Force. Furthering his education, he graduated from Chicago Floral School of Design and owned and operated Sheridan Woods Florist for more than forty years. He enjoyed skiing and was a founding member of the Vagabond Ski Club. On August 18, 1974, he was united in marriage to Nancy C. Ripp. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; his sister, Helen (Ronald) Pawasarat of Palatine, IL; sisters-in-law, Elaine Saber of Brookfield, WI, Sr. Virginia Ripp O.P. of Whitefish Bay, WI, Gail (Everett) Thoreson of S. Wayne, WI, Peggy Ripp of Greenfield, WI; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Daniel Ripp, Richard Ripp, and Charles Saber.

Elsie Helen Larrabee

Elsie Helen (nee: Olson-Nowak) Larrabee, 73, passed away with her family at her side on Saturday, November 22, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints.

Elsie was born in Albion, Wisconsin, on December 7, 1934. the daughter of Sebert and Marie (nee: Spiering) Olson. She was united in marriage to her first husband, James H. Nowak in Racine; he preceded her in death on March 25, 2002. Then Elsie was married to Ernest Larrabee on December 23, 2005.

She was employed as an Orthodontic Technician for A.O.A., retiring after many years of service. Elsie found great spiritual satisfaction in providing and mailing scripture to prison inmates and nursing homes, spreading the word of the Lord. She was a faithful member of Community Church of the Nazarene, and found great enjoyment in gardening and reading.

Elsie is survived by her loving husband, Ernest, and her children, Elizabeth (Roger) Bach, James (Jamie) Nowak Jr. all of Racine, Sheila (John) Dorvany of Shawano, Rev. Thomas (Jeanie) Nowak of Buchanan, Mich., Bruce (Patricia) Nowak, Rebecca (Larry) Kragh, Kelvin (Yvonne) Nowak, all of Racine; 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Wayne (Cindy) Larrabee of Racine, Lorene (Larry) Kozlowski of California, Renee (Tim) Ahles of Racine, Sharon “Birdie” (Terrill) Petersen of Milwaukee, Keith (Linda) Larrabee of Racine, Derek Larrabee of Sheboygan. She is further survived by 15 step-grandchildren, and 20 step-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear and loving friends.

Elsie was preceded in death by her first husband, James Nowak Sr., one sister and six brothers.

Clarence Bertelsen

Clarence Bertelsen, 97, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints on Friday, November 21, 2008. He was born in Racine on August 3, 1911, the son of Peter and Knudine (nee: Jensen) Bertelsen.

Clarence was united in marriage to Dagney Jacobsen on October 24, 1936. He was a machinist at Massey Harris, retiring after many years of service. After his retirement Clarence became a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, continuing there until 2001, at which time he was 90 years old..

Clarence is survived by two sons; Dean (Sue) Bertelsen of Yorkville and Warren Bertelsen of Racine; and a daughter, Karen (Vern) Kolze of Arizona. He is further survived by 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Clarence was preceded in death by, his wife, Dagney on January 22, 1992.

Funeral services will be held at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 322 Ohio St., on Monday, November 24, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. James Barsch officiating. Entombment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the church on Monday before services from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Carl O. Solberg

Carl O. Solberg, 94, died in Wheaton Franciscan Hospital-All Saints on Friday, November 21, 2008. He was born in Blair, WI, on April 29, 1914, the son of the late Albert and Ellen (nee: Houkam) Solberg.

On March 16, 1944, he was united in marriage to the former Mildred Engen who preceded him in death on January 1, 1996. Mr. Solberg served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a carpenter by trade and worked for various contractors including Korndoefer Builders, and also S.C. Johnson. Mr. Solberg was a retiree of the Carpenters Local # 91. He enjoyed watching the Packers, the Brewers and the Cubs.

Surviving are his children, David Solberg of Racine, Ron (Linda) Solberg of Sturtevant, and Sheri (Bill) Switzer of Kenosha; three grandchildren, Michael Solberg of Racine, Matthew (Larisa) Solberg of Cheyenne, WY, and Morgan Solberg of Racine. His nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive him. In addition to his parents and beloved wife, his sisters, Mabel Solberg, Edna Holte, Verna Kjos and brothers Eddie Solberg and Art Solberg preceded him in death.

Frank L. Riley

Frank L. Riley, age 96, passed away after a short illness on Thursday, November 20, 2008, at the Hospice House, Pleasant Prairie, WI. Frank was born in Cumberland, WI, on September 21, 1912, son of the late Thomas F. and Mabel (Nee: Tewksbury) Riley.

On September 28, 1940, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Mary Carney who preceded him in death, February 2, 1996. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church until its closing and then became a member of St. Richard Catholic Church. Frank owned and operated Quality T.V. and Antenna for many years. Frank enjoyed traveling, coffee clutching with his friends, but more than anything he treasured time spent with his family.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen (Robert G.) Riegelman of Racine; his grandchildren, Susan (D. Michael) Wendling, Robert J. (Kathy) Riegelman, all of Racine, Kristina Knesting of Seattle, WA; his four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Benjamin Wendling, Timothy and Samuel Riegelman; brother, Percy Riley of Tucson, AZ; niece and nephew, and many dear friends. Kaiser Kasabian

Kaiser Kasabian, age 80, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at his residence. Kaiser was born in Racine on October 18, 1928, son of the late Hyrabed and Elisa (Nee: Arakian) Kasabian and was a lifelong Racine resident.

Kaiser was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1947.” On June 10, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage to Ardys L. Olson. During the Korean War he served in the United States Navy. He was employed by Precise Products and then by J.I. Case Company for thirty-two years, retiring in 1991. Kaiser was a member of the J.I. Case “20 Year Club,” and a lifetime member of the Racine Yacht Club. He loved sailing and actively sailed his star boat in the Wednesday night fleet races. Above all he treasured time spent with his family and will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife, Ardys; his four children, Curtis (Marcy) Kasabian, Susan Kasabian, all of Racine, Kari Lee (Daniel) Rasmussen of Nisula, MI, and Ben (Jackie) Kasabian of Racine; his ten grandchildren, Kim (Eric) Haigh, Dan (Corey) Kasabian, Season (Jason) Hofner, Ty (Julie) Ewing, Kelly (Keith) Danielski, Brian Sullivan, Michael Rasmussen, Haley (Greg) Tarnowski, Ben Kasabian Jr. and Nathan Kasabian; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Wallace E. Florence H. (Luckfield) Gursky

Florence H. Gursky, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at Ridgewood Care Center. Florence was born in Racine on April 15, 1923, daughter of the late Charles and Hattie (Nee: Kroupa) Luckfield.

She is survived by a brother, Robert Luckfield of Racine; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin Luckfield and Harold Luckfield; and two sisters, Laverne Ostrowski and Jean Kuhnwald.

Robert J. Walker

Robert J. Walker, 42, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008. He was born in Racine on Sept. 12, 1966, to Francis J. and Janet M. (nee: LeDuc) Walker. He lived most of his life in Racine. He served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a graduate of Tremper High School in Kenosha.

He is survived by his mother, Janet Walker; father, F.J. (Gail) Walker of Kenosha; one brother, Jim Walker of Kenosha; two sisters, Kathy (Ray) Lashley and Patricia Gall; two stepbrothers, Scott Seidl and Paul LeFebvre; one nephew, Clint Lashley; one niece, Meghan Lashley; great-nephew, great-niece, other relatives, friends and his beloved Golden Lab, Angel.

George C. Taylor

George C. Taylor, 66, was called Home by his Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. He was born in Ridgely, TN, on April 11, 1942, the son of the late George and Vinnie (nee: Pete) Taylor.

Mr. Taylor had been employed by S.C. Johnson and Son until his retirement. He loved his music and had his own band, Romeo and the Get-Downs. He attended Greater Grace Temple.

Surviving is his wife Mildred (nee: White) Taylor; his children, Sharon ( fiancé, Vincent Cannon) White and Charles Taylor both of Racine, and Tammy (Keith) Mack of Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren, Tiffany Mack, KeAndre Mack and Catrina Bell; sister Lilly Foots of Racine; brothers Ozell Taylor of Racine, Willie Taylor of Decatur, IL, and Bud Taylor of West Bend. His nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive him. Thomas L. Langenfeld, Jr.

Thomas L. Langenfeld, Jr., 58, passed away unexpectedly at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, as a result of a tragic incident.

Tom was born in Racine on October 16, 1950, to Thomas L. and Alice M. (nee, VanHeirden) Langenfeld, Sr. He grew up on the north side of town and chummed with his friends from St. Rita's. At age 16, he lost his good buddy Arno Brauner, whom he always missed. During high school, he realized his talent for auto body repair while practicing on his father's farming equipment and vehicles. During a stay in California, he enhanced his profession and later established himself back in Racine under Tom's Auto Body. Years later, after building his family a home above his shop, he changed directions and started Tom's Tow 'N' Go. Those who knew him well, know he never lost his love for auto body repair, but his work lives on. Tom was full of aspirations and kindness for those truly in need.

Tom is survived by his endearing wife, Sandra (nee, Preston) Langenfeld; treasured children, John (Jennifer), Shelley (Steve) Mayer, Kelly McClure, and Jason (Becky) McClure; electrifying and charismatic grandchildren, Meggan (Gene), Ryan (Jacob), Alex, Jasmine, Danielle, William, and Wyatt; precious great-grandchildren, Olivia, and Leander; and spirited sisters, Annie (Michael) Cunningham, Connie Czarnecki, and Sharon (Ed) Langenfeld. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, especially his Best Friend, Tony. He was preceded in death by his father, the revered, Thomas L. Langenfeld, Sr. and his mother, Alice M. Langenfeld.

A memorial visitation for Tom will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, November 23, 2008, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family will be appreciated.

Valeria McWhorter

Valeria “Valerie” McWhorter, 66, passed away at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage last Saturday.

Valerie was born in Evanston, IL, on January 4, 1942, to the late William “Daddy Bill” Eden and Betty Jane (nee: Wilson) Gibson. Valeria graduated from Mary Bradford High School in Kenosha. She was united in marriage to Jeff B. McWhorter in 1959. To this union their five cherished children were born.

Valerie had been employed by In-Sink-Erator for 7 years. Following, she worked for SC Johnson Wax for over 18 years. She was raised in the Catholic faith. Later, she received Christ as her personal Savior, confessing Rev. Fleming as her Pastor. Valeria loved spending quality time with her family. During her earlier years, she enjoyed cooking, which everybody loved; and socializing with friends.

Surviving are her daughters, Lisa McWhorter and Tara (Godfrey) Campbell; sons, Daniel, Jeff and Steven (Holly) McWhorter; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gail (nee; Eden) Knazze; foster Mother, Mary Davis; special friend, Alfonso Fikes; and a host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to her parents, Valerie was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Damia Greer; foster Father, Rev. Nathaniel Davis; beloved aunt, Mary Virginia Brooks; uncles, Fred and Frank Wilson; brother; Marcus (Finesse) Eden; nephews; Jimmy “Bunk” and Ricky McWhorter; Dana and Dean Bostick.

Homegoing services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Dominion Church of God M.P.G.T, 402 – 9th St., with Rev. Howard Fleming officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 5-7 p.m. and in the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m.

Gerald A. Drascic

Surrounded by his family, Gerald A. Drascic, age 71, passed away Monday, November 17, 2008, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Racine on November 20, 1936, son of the late Anthony and Mildred (Nee: Petersen) Drascic.

Jerry graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1954.” On May 10, 1958, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Mary Sue Patzman. Jerry owned and operated Drascic Construction for 35 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of St. Mary’s By the Lake Catholic Church. Jerry enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and playing cards. Above all, it was the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, that he treasured the most. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Mary Sue; six children, Elizabeth (Jim) Pitterle of Germantown, WI, Colleen (Mark) Troy of Viroqua, WI, Gregory (Cindy) Drascic of Anthem, AZ, Jeffry Drascic of Racine, Sharon (Matt) Koleske of Westerville, OH, and Linda (Dave) Mills of Greenfield, WI; 11 grandchildren, Kaitlan, Brenna, Kayle, Conor, Matthew, Christopher, Danielle, Nicholas, Megan, Sarah and Nicole; a sister, Kathy (Ray) Kant of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Richard (Patricia) Drascic of Indianapolis, IN, and James (Barbara) Drascic of Sturgeon Bay, WI; sisters-in-law, Joan Tures, Kay Deschler, and Carol Litrenta of Racine, and Barbara Patzman of Wauwatosa, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack and brother-in-law, H. James Patzman.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 21, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s By the Lake Catholic Church, 7605 Lakeshore Dr., with Reverend Stephen Stradinger officiating. Inurnment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Nancy 'Nan' Brown

Nancy “Nan” (nee: Hatlem) Brown, 73, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2008, at Froedtert Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on June 18, 1935, the daughter of Norman “Red” and Agnes (nee: Larson) Hatlem.

Nan was united in marriage to James Brown on July 9, 1956. She was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church for many years. Nan and Jim found great love and enjoyment at the many golf courses and casinos that they visited.

Nan is survived by her husband, James; their three sons, James Brown, Robert (Christine) Brown and Charlie Brown; daughter, Linda (Michael) Honan; two grandsons, Connor and Jacob Brown; and niece, Peggy (Gary) Stephens. She is further survived by other relatives and many dear friends. Nan was preceded in death by her parents, and granddaughter, Jessica.

Funeral services honoring Nan’s life will be held at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 1925 Summit Ave., on Thursday, November 20, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mary Janz officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family have been suggested.
