Edward Livingston Schaut

Edward Livingston Schaut, 84, passed away at Select Specialty Hospital in West Allis on Monday, November 3, 2008.

Edward was born in Mt. Carroll, IL, on August 19, 1924, to Alvin Lee and Eva Independence (nee, Durham) Schaut. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946. On June 27, 1946, he married the former Mylle Fuller in Cedar Rapids, IA, recently celebrating 62 years of marriage.

Edward graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids with a B.A. in Chemistry in 1949 and in 1951 he graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, IL, with his M.S. in Organic Chemistry. Edward retired from S.C. Johnson and Sons where he worked in Quality Assurance. He was a member of the American Society of Quality Control, American Statistical Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He attended numerous seminars on statistics and quality control and advanced Biostatistics, and he taught seminars on basic statistics and quality control. Edward loved to fly, earning his private pilot’s license in retirement. He was a member of the E.A.A. Chapter 838, flying over 150 flights with the Young Eagles. Edward was also a high school referee in football and basketball for over 30 years, also officiating in college and semi-pro football games.

Edward is survived by his wife, Mylle Schaut; children, David Christopher Schaut of Andover, NY, Jan (Keith) Campbell of Fond du Lac, Charles Edward (Vickie) Schaut of Bowling Green, KY, Richard Wolfgang (Kim) Schaut of Middletown, CA, Amysue Hutchinson Schaut and Jonathan Arthur Schaut, both of Racine; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Abbie, Adam S., Ned, Skyler, Nick, Adam A., Amanda, Tristan and Levi; 5 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Myra (Robert) Ottens of Morrison, IL, and Margaret (Bud) Rose of Peoria, IL. Edward is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas A. Schaut, and a granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Schaut.

In following Edward’s wishes, a private family memorial will be held, followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the E.A.A. Chapter 838, Aviation Foundation, ATTN: Steve Myers, 3333 N Green Bay Rd., Racine WI 53404.
