W. Dean Roberts, age 83, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Wheaton Franciscan–All Saints Medical Center. Dean was born in Wausau, WI, on April 24, 1929, son of the late Marion and Janet (Nee: McNelty) Roberts.
Dean was a graduate of UW-Madison, majoring in Economics. On December 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Sally L. Nelson.
Dean began his career as a purchasing agent at Massey Ferguson in Racine. He later went to work for General Electric, starting with the appliance division in Milwaukee, then moving to the Medical Systems division in Waukesha when it first opened. After 18 years with GE, he was recruited by Astronautics Corporation of Milwaukee, a supplier to the aerospace industry, where he worked until his retirement.
Even though he was a lifelong commuter, Dean found time to coach little league, lead Indian Guides, bowl with the Trestle Board League and be a member of the Racine Masonic Belle City Lodge #18. After retirement, he worked at Johnson Park and Shoop golf courses and volunteered year-round at Toys for Tots. Dean loved traveling and he and Sally traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. He enjoyed supporting the many athletic activities of his grandchildren. He could always be counted on to be behind the fence or in the stands, watching every game from beginning to end. His warmth and “dad humor” will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-five years, Sally; his children, Denise (Raymond) McKee, Paul (Karen) Roberts, all of Kenosha; his three grandchildren, Drew, Alyssa and Ari; brother, David (Anjean) Roberts of St. Germain, WI; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shirley (Edward) Kapellusch of Mesa, AZ, Jay (Sue) Nelson of Houston, TX, Jeff (Sandra) Nelson of Hiawassee, GA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Kay.
A heart-felt thank you goes to the staff at Wheaton Franciscan–All Saints Medical Center for their caring and compassion.
A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. (Masonic Lodge Service at 3:15 p.m.) with Chaplain Susan Bowen officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until time of service at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations to Toys For Tots or the Racine Masonic Belle City Lodge #18 would be greatly appreciated.

Not only did a get a wonderful life partner in Denise, but I got that rare double-Luck: through her I had 2 more loving, fun, and so very nice parents! Dean was a quiet, but very subtly funny man. A really decent guy. He is missed by so many, more than he would humbly have thought.--Ray McKee, son-out-law.
