Edward J. Porter Sr.

Edward J. Porter Sr., age 70, passed away Friday morning, August 3, 2012. Edward was born in Kenosha on July 14, 1942, son of the late Leo and Josephine (nee: Shepard) Porter.

On June 19, 1965, he was united to the love of his life, LeAnn Stich and they had forty-seven beautiful years together.  Ed was a sheet metal journeyman and was a member and strong supporter of Sheet Metal Union Local 18 for 50 years.  Ed served as a trustee for many years, and was actively involved on the apprenticeship committee.  He also served as Vice President of the Racine Union Hall Association and Treasurer for the Sheet Metal Workers Retiree Club.  Ed was a handyman of all trades, with the ability to fix anything. His family never needed a repairman, and, with his talent and generosity, neither did many of his neighbors. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus.  In his spare time, Ed enjoyed playing a wide variety of card games (both in person and online), visiting casinos, and '50s and '60s muscle cars and rock n’ roll music.  He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, LeAnn; children, Kimberly (David) Prott of Racine, Edward (Sharon) Porter Jr. of Lake Villa, IL, Cathleen Porter of Racine; grandchildren, Mikayla Prott, Caitlin, Christine and Kinzie Kujawa; sister, Virginia Otto of Spokane, WA; sister-in-law, Betty Blount of South Dakota; nieces and nephews, including Laura (Steven) Kujawa and David Stich; other relatives and friends, including his very close friends Bill Baxter of Waukegan, IL, David Dworak of Frederick, MD, and Jerry Nelson of San Dimas, CA.  Ed was preceded in death by: his parents, Leo and Josephine; his in-laws, Paul and Myrtle Stich; and brothers-in-law, Richard Stich, Ronald Stich, Archie Blount and Roger Otto.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Terry Huebner officiating.  Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass.

Ada Immacolata Cifuno

Ada Immacolata Cifuno, age 80, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Ridgewood Care Center. Ada was born in Cancello Arnone, Italy, on October 15, 1931, daughter of Raffaele and Vincenza (Nee: DiCaprio) Cristiano.

On February 11, 1955, she was united in marriage to Vincenzo Cifuno and they immigrated to Calumet City, IL, in 1972. Following Vincenzo’s passing in 1996, Ada moved to Racine to be with her son, Ralph. Ada was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was an excellent cook. She will be remembered for her fresh pasta and gnocchi. Ada was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Carmela Cifuno; granddaughters, Ada and Amanda; sisters, Luigina (Agostino) Baratella and Enza (Antonio) Gravante; brothers-in-law, Ugo Piccolo and Pasquale (Virginia) Cifuno; nieces, Rina (Gino) Ciaccio, Maria (Antonio) Picazio; nephew, Dominic (Teresa) Femminella; other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; brothers, Vincenzo and Carlo Cristiano; sister, Antonietta (Agostino) Femminella; and sister-in-law, Sofia Piccolo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, August 9, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., with Rev. Jack Flynn officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet Wednesday at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. (Rosary at 7 p.m.) and on Thursday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass.

Hilda W. Woodruff

Hilda W. Woodruff, age 93, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Elizabeth Residence. She was born in Naples, NY, on October 31, 1918, daughter of the late William and Gertrud (Nee: Kirchner) Widmer.

Hilda was raised in Naples and graduated from Skidmore College.  On November 23, 1940, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” W. Woodruff and they moved to Dearborn, MI.  Hilda raised her family in Dearborn where she was an active volunteer with the PTA and the Michigan Diabetes Assn.  She also had worked for many years at the Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum.  Hilda was a very creative person and also loved music, gardening and history.  In 1993 she and Bob moved to Racine to be closer to family.  In 2003 Bob passed away.  Hilda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary W. Josten of Racine; grandchildren, Mark (Emily Kiley) Josten, Theodore (Erika) Josten, Alicia (Michael) Zapata; great-grandchildren, Alex, Seth, Jacob and Olivia; other relatives and friends.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert W. Woodruff II; and her son-in-law, Roy J. Josten.

A memorial service will be held Friday, August 17, 2012, at 1:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 716 College Ave., with Reverend Steve Fringer officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 1 p.m. until time of service.  Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church, The American Diabetes Assn., The Racine Symphony, or  the charity of your choice have been suggested,

Faith Fay Harrison

Faith Fay Harrison, age 19, sadly left this earth on Thursday August 2, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at Greater Grace Temple 522 N. Memorial Dr., on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jettie L. Cornett officiating.

Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.

Anna M. Schifano

Anna M. Schifano (nee: Dacquisto), 100, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Lakeshore Manor. She was born in Porticello, Sicily, on March 19, 1912, daughter of the late Sam and Josephine Dacquisto.

Anna was united in marriage to Louis T. Schifano, who preceded her in death in September of 1979. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Anna had a great love for cooking and gardening and a joy of traveling. But above all she cherished time spent with her family.

Anna is survived by, her daughter and son-in-law, Angelica “Angie” (George) Longo; two grandsons; Drs. Lance (Cathy) Longo and Dr. Steven (Susan) Longo; 4 great-grandchildren, Rachel and Dominic Longo and Nicholas and Gabrella Longo; two sisters, Frances Cacchione and Sarah Arndt; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Frank; and two brothers, Frank (Doris) and Dominick (Hilda); and two sisters, Helen Dacquisto and Grace (Robert) Petersen; and brothers-in-law, August Cacchione, Ronald Arndt; and a nephew, Thomas Arndt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave., with Rev. Ricardo Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Hwy. 32. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family at the church for visitation on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to Juvenile Diabetes Assn. or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital have been suggested.

Mary Rose (Vaculik) Kroes

Surrounded by her loving family, Mary Rose Kroes, age 86, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center.  Mary was born in Racine on March 24, 1926, daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine (Nee:  Zemek) Vaculik and was a lifelong Racine County resident.

Mary was a lifelong and active member of St. Rita Catholic Church and Christian Mothers.  On November 12, 1949, at the church she was united in marriage to Theodore “Ted” Kroes.   Mary enjoyed cooking, gardening, but most of all she cherished and loved caring for her family.  She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of sixty-three years, Ted; her children, Dennis (Donna) Kroes, Carol Kroes (Juan Ayala), all of Racine, Margaret (David) Voss of Union Grove, Joyce Kroes (Katherine Pentilla) of Waterford; her grandchildren, Richard (Amy) Klinkhammer, Tracy (Eric) Kipper, Tina Haag, Bryan (Kelly) Haag, Kimberly (Vinnie) Krezinski, Kristin (Geoff) LaCanne, Dakota Kroes, Michelle (Jason) Sutherland of New Berlin, Nathan (Katherine) Voss of Waupun, Jennifer (Art) Juszkiewicz of Rochester, Jeanine Pentilla of Portland, Oregon; her great-grandchildren, Trenton, Tyler and Troy Kipper, Dominic and Alyssa LaCanne, Dodge and Kylie Krezinski, Cayden Krida, Madalynn, Brayden and Brynn Voss, Jane and Ean Juszkiewicz; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry Kroes, Lillian Kroes, Georgia Repalian, Nettie Doyle; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Frank and Jerry.

Loretta J. (LaSure) Galis

Loretta J. Galis, age 96, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. She was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, on January 28, 1916, daughter of the late Joseph LaSure and Loretta (nee: Hynes) LaSure Heindorff.

Loretta was schooled at St. Joseph’s Academy in Lindsey, Ontario, and moved to Racine in 1935. She was always proud of her Canadian Irish heritage. On July 30, 1941, she was united in marriage to Michael P. Galis, who preceded her in death on March 6, 1993. Loretta was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. She enjoyed crafts, knitting, crocheting, gardening and aquasizing at the YWCA. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her, and they will take with them the patience, kindness, understanding and knowing that there is only CAN in this life, because there is no T in that word.

Loretta is survived by her three children, Paul (Lynne) Galis of Racine, Karen (Neil) Morgensen of Watertown, Lorie (Will) Wade of Galena, IL; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Galis Hansen, Annissa Morgensen (Richard Wayne) Lindsay, Aaron (Michelle) Galis, Christopher (Kris) Morgensen, Michael (Amanda) Morgensen, Loretta Haskell, Audrey Haskell; nine great-grandchildren, Ricky, Mitchell, Quin, Hannah, Haiden, Wyatt, Annelis, Brynn and Zachary; her companion shitzu, “Molly”; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Loretta was also preceded in death by her brother Leo “Bud” (Janice) La Sure.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green St., on Monday August 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Don Zerkel officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. Memorials to St. Catherine’s High School or St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church have been suggested.
