Rosemary (Navratil) Hughes

Chicago, IL -- Rosemary Hughes, age 82, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at her home in Chicago. She was born in Racine on August 3, 1926, daughter of the late Henry and Cecelia (Nee: Devine) Navratil.

She graduated from St. Catherine’s High School and attended Spencerian College. On December 20, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Parsonage, Racine, she was united in marriage to Thomas Morgan Hughes II. Rosemary loved antiquing, discussing politics, vacationing in Door County and simply spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. We will all miss her.

Surviving are her children, Thomas (Theresa) Hughes of Beebe, AR, Cynthia (Robert) Stone of Chicago, IL, Patricia (Lawrence) Neibor of Fox Point, WI; grandchildren, Gwyneth Leigh Hughes, Jennifer Morgan Neibor, Erin Hughes (Brandon) Duncomb, Lauren Mary Neibor, Anne - Elizabeth Stone, Katharine Hughes Stone, Robert Lee Stone, and Mary-Grace Stone; great-grandchildren, Logan Henry and Annalie Rose Duncomb. She is further survived by her sister, Catherine Brook of Racine; sisters-in-law, Sally Navratil, Rose Navratil and Maripat Navratil all of Racine, Gretchen Stifler of Diamondhead, MS; a special niece, Judy Rasmussen of Racine; many more nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Thomas Morgan Hughes II; her sister, Cecelia and her brothers, Harry, Frank, Bernard, Thomas, William and James Navratil.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 15, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s by the Lake Catholic Church, 7605 Lakeshore Dr., with Reverend Stephen Stradinger officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to the American Heart Association or The University of Chicago Hospital and Clinics have been suggested.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Louis Cohen and all the doctors and staff at the University of Chicago Hospital for their kindness and attentive care given to Rosemary for so many years.
