Richard A. Mares, age 85, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Bradford Terrace, Milwaukee, WI. Richard was born in Racine on March 13, 1928, son of the late Phillip and Germaine (Nee: Beaupre) Mares.
Richard was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1946.” Furthering his education he received a Bachelor’s Degree from Loras College, Dubuque, IA, and had served on the Board of Regents at Loras College. During the Korean War he served in the United States Army.
On December 27, 1950, he was united in marriage to Jane Ann Spencer, who preceded him in death on April 7, 2012. Richard was employed at Western Publishing for many years, reaching the level of Vice President of Sales, retiring from Banta Company in 1990. He treasured time spent with his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his three sons, Martin (Carrie) Mares of St. Peters, MO, Christopher (Rhonda) Mares of Chandler, AZ, Paul (Stephanie) Mares of Greendale, WI; 11 grandchildren, Spencer and Hope Mares, Samuel, Nicholas, Zachary and Emily Mares, Sarah, Margaret, Daniel, Hannah and Steven Mares; sisters and brothers, Marilyn Moore of Racine, WI, Nancy Spiegelhoff of Green Bay, WI, Harry (Geri) Mares of Wild Rose, WI, Suzanne (Ron) Herman of Carmel, IN, James (Sheryl) Mares of Chicago, IL; sister-in-law, Patricia Mares of Fairfax, VA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s By the Lake Catholic Church, 7605 Lakeshore Dr., with Reverend Stephen J. Stradinger officiating, assisted by Deacon Robert G. Starr. Private interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Memorials to St. Catherine’s High School or to St. Vincent DePaul Society have been suggested.
