Sun City West, Arizona – Carrol (Lucille) Molner Aiello, 84, of Mount Pleasant, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2014, in Sun City West, AZ. Carrol was born in Bloomer, WI, on September 22, 1929. She was the daughter of Louis and Calma (nee: Berg) Molner. On February 6, 1960, she was united in marriage to Edward M. Aiello. Carrol was raised in Bloomer, Wisconsin. She was a long time resident of Racine, Wisconsin.
Ed and Carrol owned The Hub Bar and Restaurant in Racine, Wisconsin, until they sold it in 1983. For the first ten years of their retirement, they wintered in Florida, visiting with family and friends. In 1995, they became “snowbirds,” purchasing a home in Sun City West, Arizona. After her husband’s death, Carrol continued to divide her time, with her daughter Connie, between Wisconsin and Arizona.
Carrol graduated from Bloomer High School in 1947. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and Science from The Stout Institute (University of Wisconsin-Stout) in 1951. For five years, Carrol taught Home Economics at Westby High School in Westby, Wisconsin, under the George-Barden Act. During the summer, she would travel to students' homes, teaching cooking and sewing to FHA students. The highlight of the summer was traveling with her students to the Wisconsin State Fair for competition. In 1957, Carrol accepted a teaching position at William Horlick High School in Racine, WI, where she taught Foods and Biology. In the late 1960s, she joined her husband in the restaurant as the in-house Bookkeeper and Baker, where she was famous for her Schaum Tortes.
Carrol was a member of Racine/Kenosha Home Economics Association (RKHEA), Wisconsin Home Economics Association (WHEA), Wisconsin Home Economists in Business (WHEIB), and a founding member of Wisconsin Women Entrepreneurs (WWE). Along with serving on the boards and chairing committees, Carrol was past state chairwoman of WHEIB and past president of WWE. Carrol was a life-long member of the Girls Scouts. She was a troop leader and served on the Girl Scout Board. She also was a Cub Scout and Webelo Leader. She was a member of Meadowbrook Country Club. In recent years, Carrol was a member of the Sun City West Women’s Club, SCW Wisconsin Club, and Handicaples Club of SCW. She was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway and a long-standing member of Racine Sons of Norway. Carrol was very proud of her Norwegian heritage.
Carrol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. The thing she loved the most was spending time with her children, five granddaughters, nieces and nephews. Her nephews, Bill and Curt Peil, held a very special place in her heart. Ed and Carrol’s first date was sailing on his boat. They continued to sail, often bringing their family with them; they had been members of Racine Yacht Club. As the years progressed, Ed and Carrol also enjoyed flying their single-engine plane and camping around Wisconsin with their children.
Carrol started participating in sports when her youngest son entered high school; she took up golf, bowling, and bocce. She played on the Meadowbrook Country Club 9-hole Women’s league, District 9-hole Women’s league, and at Shoop’s Golf Course on Mondays. She and Ed played on a couples golf league, state seniors golf league, bowling league, and Roma Lodge Bocce league. Carrol and Ed traveled extensively during the early stages of retirement. In her later years, Carrol was an avid Phoenix Suns basketball fan and a season ticket holder. Carrol looked forward to playing cards with friends Marlene and Sylvia at the monthly Women’s Club Salad Luncheon. She loved watching Packers games at the sports bar with her Bloomer childhood friend Joan Kobielus and daughter Pam. She loved going to dinner, concerts and events with dear friends Don and Joan Andersen. She will be deeply missed.
Carrol is survived by her daughter, Constance D. Aiello, Sun City West, AZ; sons, Edward S. Aiello, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Christopher L. (Maria) Aiello, Mentor, Ohio; five granddaughters, Jennifer Aiello (fiancé Neil Jesko) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Elizabeth and Alexandra Aiello of Mentor, OH, and Sydney and Samantha Aiello of Mequon, Wisconsin; nieces, Andrea Malsch of Mt Pleasant, WI, Marsha (Steve) Priske of Richardson, Texas, Diane (Ken) Thunhorst of Racine, WI, and Norma Garbedian of Racine, WI; nephews, William L. (Cindy) Peil, of Dunkirk Maryland, and Curtis M. (Paulette) Peil of Glasgow, Kentucky, Kenneth Aiello of Racine, WI, David and Charles DeRose of Venice, Florida; as well as two generations of great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
In addition to her husband, Edward, she was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Calma Molner; her husband’s parents, Saverio “Sam” and Divina Aiello; sisters, Ruth Gogarty of Amityville, New York, Shirley Peil of Vero Beach, Florida; sisters-in-law, Marie Ruffolo, Marie Aiello, Rose Aiello, all of Racine, Wisconsin, and Edith DeRose of Venice, Florida; brothers-in-law, Ray Gogarty, Long Island, New York, Wilmer Peil of Vero Beach, Florida, Roger Ruffolo, Frank Aiello and Arthur Aiello, all of Racine, Wisconsin, and Charles DeRose of Venice, Florida; two nieces and a nephew, Dorothy Bruton, Sue Aiello, and Dr John Bruton, all of Racine, Wisconsin.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at noon at the Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home in Racine, Wisconsin. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon, with Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating. Private interment will be held at the Christ Lutheran Halverson Cemetery in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
