Anne A. Samuelian, age 74, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Wheaton-Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Anne was born in Dinuba, CA, on October 6, 1939, daughter of the late Kerop and Verken Torosian.
She was a proud graduate of Wm. Horlick High School “Class of 1957” and was inducted into the Horlick Hall of Fame in 2009. On November 24, 1966, Anne married the love of her life, Sam Samuelian, at St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church. In addition to being a member of St. Mesrob, she was also a longtime member of St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church.
She owned and operated Kelly Temporary Services in Racine for forty-two years until her retirement in 1997. She and her husband also owned Barkley’s Print Shop. With a deep commitment towards furthering business and the landscape of Racine, Anne volunteered many hours with Racine Jaycettes, RAMAC, Crimestoppers of Racine, Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) (where she served as Chairman), and the Downtown Rotary Club, where she was one of the first female members. For all of her exemplary service, pioneering spirit, entrepreneurial style and dedication to Racine, she was named a “Woman of Distinction” by the YWCA in 1991. A longtime member of Meadowbrook Country Club, Anne most recently became a part owner and served as Secretary there.
She enjoyed golfing with her friends at the club and was a member of their Ladies Senior District Team. In her spare time, she loved traveling, (especially cruises) and was the activities chairman for the Armenian Heritage Cruise Committee. Anne also enjoyed her garden, book club, card club, coffee with friends, and her monthly reunion with her high school friends. More than anything, Anne cherished her time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren who were fortunate to live right next door. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her loving husband of forty-eight years, Sam; daughter, Jodie (Geoff) Schick and their children, Sawyer, Spencer and Sasha, all of Racine; son, S. Jason Samuelian of Franklin; brothers, Art (Diane) Torosian of Scottsdale, AZ, Herman (Una) Torosian of Madison; brother-in-law, George Samuelian of Waukegan; sister-in-law, Mary Boyajian of Fresno, CA; her loving dog, Allie; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Anne was also preceded in death by her brother, Jacob.
Funeral services will be held at St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church, 4100 N. Newman Rd., on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Daron Stepanian and Rev. Fr. Yeprem Kelegian officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Anne’s second home, Meadowbrook Country Club, 2149 N. Green Bay Rd., on Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday morning at the church from 9 a.m. until time of service at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church, St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church or to Meadowbrook Country Club for a memorial to be established in Anne’s name have been suggested.
