Floyd Howard, age 96, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014, at the Becker Shoop Center. Floyd was born in Helena, Arkansas, on July 7, 1918, son of the late McKinley and Lucy (Nee: Patterson) Howard.
Floyd was united in marriage to the love of his life, Vernice Davis, on August 11, 1941, in Helena, Arkansas.
Floyd was employed by Roosevelt University, Chicago, for many years. He was a member and elder for fifty-five years at Freedom Baptist Church under the leadership of Craig Melvin Smith and member of Faith Christian Fellowship in Racine. Floyd was past master for Stone Temple Lodge in Chicago. Floyd moved to Racine in 2012 to be closer to his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of seventy-three years, Vernice; his children, Verna Sipp, Florida M. (James) Gardner, Frances Dolley; 16 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Floyd was also preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Bryant; and great-grandsons, Damian Tubbs-Dolley and Dashaun Dolley.
Funeral services will be held at Faith Christian Fellowship Church, 1200 Racine St., on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, aat 11 a.m., with Rev. Sheila Nienhaus officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.
