Major Reece Chambliss, age 62, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2013, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Major was born on April 26, 1951, in Meridian, Mississippi. He loved listening to the music of Johnny Cash, watching the Lawrence Welk show and polka.
A participant in Wisconsin’s Special Olympics, he competed in the wheelchair races. In the bowling competition he earned several medals. He loved going on outings, sitting outdoors and good food.
Major is survived by a sister, Katherine; brother, James; niece, Nicole; nephew, Jordan; great-nieces, Nefertiti and Nyasia Wells; cousin, Robert; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mamie, on March 30, 1998; aunts, Maseline and Annie Mae; great aunt, Maggie Buckley; uncles, Charlie and Major; and grandparents, Elizabeth and Charles Chambliss.
Private services were held at the funeral home.
To Major’s extended family, the staff of Southern Wisconsin Center, those past and present, a whole-hearted thank you for the love, kindness, care and dedication you bestowed upon Major. You knew him best. We further thank the staff of Wheaton Franciscan’s Intensive Care Unit for their care and compassion in Major’s final days.
