She was born in Superior on August 5, 1921, to the late Al J. and Ethel (nee: May) Kennedy. She was a resident of Ashland for many years. She attended St. Agnes Grade School and De Padua High School, from which she graduated in 1940. She was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ashland for a number of years. She was formerly married to Walter Gear, who passed away in 1977. In Ashland, she was past president of the VFW Auxiliary 690.
In 1966, she moved to Racine and was married to Lawrence “Andy” Anderson, who passed away in November 1999. Waneta had been employed at St. Luke’s Hospital in Racine as a business office supervisor for 19 years until her retirement in 1985. She was a past president of VFW Auxiliary 1391, 1st District President holding many elected and appointed offices. She was named Woman of the Year in 1979 by the VFW Auxiliary for Loyal Services to the organization. She also enjoyed her Lawrence Welk.
She will be dearly missed by her three daughters, Sandra (William) Glover of Arizona, Peggy (Roger) Dick of Racine, and Debi (George) Bronk of Racine; five grandchildren, Jamie (Gavin) Decheck, Daniel Dick both of Racine, Steve (Tracy) Glover, Kim Rozzsi both of Michigan, Stacy (Matt) Rampy of Washington, D.C.; five great-grandchildren; special sister, Mary Cade; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husbands; son, Donald Gear, two grandchildren, Aaron and Melissa Berger; two brothers, William and Donald Kennedy; and two sisters, Irene Kane and Patricia Kerr.
Funeral services in honor of Waneta will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 9000 Washington Road, on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to meet the family at the chapel on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
