Leonard R. Gister, age 81, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan Cardiovascular Center. He was born in Racine on September 4, 1930, son of the late Romayne and Mary (Nee: Defatte) Gister.
Leonard served in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Africa. On June 28, 1952, he was united in marriage to Bernice Wasik. Bernie passed away May 24, 2002, just one month short of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Leonard was employed for 22 years at Walker Mfg. and retired in 1992 from Pioneer Products. He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing and hunting. He was a lifetime member of Racine County Line Gun Club. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his children, Leonard Jr., Andrew, Mary (Billy), all of Racine, Paula (Heidi); grandchildren, Leonard (Lisa) III, Jeremy, Jaymie, Melisa (Romeo), Tyrone (Selena), Benjamin, Karina, Casey, Ashley, Carrie, Lindsey and Marina; great-grandchildren, Shamarionte (Juvida), Nathaniel, Danielle, Skyler, Tavares, Ethan, Jared, Alexander, Madison, Tylicia, Tyrone Jr., Chel’C, Laniyah, Justin, Amir, Ayvion and Mitchell; great-great-grandsons, Jamarion, and Gage; a future great-granddaughter, Jayanah; a sister, Florence (Neal) Kenyon of Tomahawk, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his great grandson, Myson.
Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Saturday, June 23, 2012, at 11 a.m. until a time of remembering at noon. Full Military Honors will follow. Private interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Community Care, Lincoln Lutheran Adult Day Center, Becker Shoop Center and special aide and friend Katherine Rhone for all of their loving and compassionate care.
