Mount Pleasant – Steven J. Kirk, 64, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints on Sunday, June 10, 2012, from complications related to diabetes and kidney failure.
Steve was born in Racine to Alvin and Doris (nee: Nielsen) Kirk on December 2, 1947. He had lived in Racine most of his life. In Milwaukee, he was united in marriage to Cindy Rae Liegler on September 15, 1994.
Steve was employed by US Can for 30 years and also with Ruud Lighting for five years. He retired in October 2004. Steve had a passion for gardening, especially for his rose gardens. He enjoyed cars, mostly Corvettes. Steve was an avid Milwaukee baseball fan: the Braves and the Brewers. He also was a fan of the Wisconsin Badgers. He collected Mobil Gas memorabilia and he adored his two grandchildren.
Steve is survived by his wife, Cindy; son, Christiaan (Robin) Kirk and their son, Miles; son, Andrew Zachary (Krissie) Kirk; step-daughter, Amy (Chris) Nichols and their son, Mason; two brothers and three sisters, Dale Kirk, Kathy Kirk, Nancy (Joe) Kimmell, Dave (Jolene) Kirk and Barb Kirk; a special friend, Bruce Hunt; his K-9 companion, Darby O’Gill; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom Kirk; and sister-in-law, Tammy Kirk.
A memorial ceremony will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday, June 18, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. service time. Memorials may be directed to the family for a special memorial fund in Steve’s honor.
