Dr. Ronald S. Zalokar, 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 4, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged in Kenosha.
Ronald was born on May 25, 1932, in Oak Lawn, IL, to the late Frank and Lillian (nee: Vejrostik) Zalokar. On June 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to Diane (nee: Peyret) Zalokar. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2010.
Ronald received a B.A. in Physical Education from Monmouth College in 1954 and Master’s degrees in Biology and Physical Education from Western Illinois and Southern Illinois Universities and a Doctorate in Education from Marquette University. He was employed as a professor at Carthage College for over 36 years and moved to Racine in 1962 when the campus moved from Carthage, IL, to Kenosha, WI. At Carthage, Ron was a defensive coordinator in football for 18 years. In 1969, his squad led the nation, at all levels, in the fewest points allowed per game. And, in 1999, he was inducted into the NCAA Division III Wrestling Coach’s Hall of Fame.
Ron is survived by a son, Gary (Michele) Zalokar; and two daughters, Gail (Doug) Bauman, and Gwyn Zalokar; seven grandchildren, Colin Zalokar, Jake Zalokar, Sara Bauman, Sean Bauman, Greg Bauman, Griffin Bauman and Riley Bauman. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Glen Zalokar.
Funeral services in memory of Ronald will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 10, 2010, at 7 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will be held on Monday, September 13, at West Lawn Memorial Park at 2 p.m.
Memorial’s in Ronald’s honor may be made to the “Zalokar Endowment Fund” at Carthage College Development Office (2001 Alford Park Drive, Kenosha, WI 53140) or to “First Presbyterian Church Building Fund” (716 College Avenue, Racine, WI 53403).
