Andrew G. Regas Jr., age 98, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Andrew was born in Albia, Iowa, September 27, 1911, son of the late Andrew G. and Margaret (Nee: Machala) Regas and came to Racine at age 8 with his parents.
He was employed by Modine Manufacturing for forty-one years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church, Modine Manufacturing’s “20 Year Club,” and Better Breather’s Club. An avid gardener “Mr. Green Thumb” he always had a bountiful harvest of vegetables and flowers. Above all he was a loving uncle who enjoyed family gatherings, especially playing checkers with the children, but he’d never let you win. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his niece, Antoinette “Toni” (Harry) Filz; nephews, Richard (Rosemary) Lennertz, Eugene Menden; seven great-nieces and nephews, Catherine (Mark) Zlevor, Dr. Richard (Jennifer) Lennertz, Lisa (Alan) Grodey, Steve Menden, Ellen (Steve) Keller, Thomas (Linda) Menden, David (Janine) Menden; 19 great-great-nieces and nephews; 1 great-great-great-niece; 1 great-great-great-nephew; other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Helen Regas, Margaret (Anthony) Lennertz Doffin; brother, Steven (Veronica) Regas; nephew, Donald (Dee) Lennertz; and niece, Lois Menden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 28, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Kinzie Avenue. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m. Memorials to the family have been suggested.
