Ramona Q. (Quiroz) Cruz

Ramona Cruz, age 74, was called away to the Lord unexpectedly on Monday, June 17, 2013, at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center.  Ramona was born in Austin, Texas, on July 19, 1938, daughter of the late Antonio and Rita (Nee:  Esquivel) Quiroz.

On October 29, 1955, Ramona was united in marriage to Ignacio Reyes Cruz Sr., “Nacho,” who preceded her in death on May 21, 2007.  She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and member of Virgen de Guadalupe.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who especially cherished time with her children.  Ramona also enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, crafts, tejano music, dancing, and the many shopping trips with her dear sister, Connie. She had a devotion to angels and received great pleasure collecting angel figures through the years. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her seven children,  Ignacio Q. “Nacho” (Ramona) Cruz Jr.,  Sylvia Ann Sanchez,  Antonio Q. Cruz, Alfonso Q. Cruz,  Richard Q. (Caroline) Cruz, Irene  Granados, Eddie Q. Cruz, all of Racine;  20 grandchildren;  22 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Consuelo Velasquez, Paul (Frances) Quiroz, all of Racine, Lupe (Sonny) Limon, Antonio (Isabelle) Quiroz, Robert Quiroz, all of Austin, TX; sisters-in-law, Elaine Cruz, Seledonia Ynnocencio, Delia Cruz; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.  In addition to her parents and husband, Ramona was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Luis Granados; sisters, Victoria (Martin) Limon, Gume Cortez; brothers, Alex (Patsy) Quiroz, Sixto (Pauline) Quiroz;  brothers-in-law, Frank Velasquez, Domingo Cruz Sr., Felipe Cruz Sr. and Feliciano Ynnocencio Sr..

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 28, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1100 Erie St., with Rev. Antony Thomas officiating.  Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Kinzie Avenue.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m.
