Charles W. Tucker

Charles W. “Chuck” Tucker, 84, passed away at Becker Shoop Center on Sunday April 25, 2010. Chuck was born on April 23, 1927, the son of William and Ethel (nee: Strange) Tucker in Tipler, Wisconsin.

He was united in marriage to Florence E. Thompson in Dubuque, Iowa, on September 4, 1947. Chuck proudly served in the United States Army in the 778th Tank Battalion during World War II. He was employed at Walker Drop Forge as a welder, retiring after 37 years of service.

Chuck was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars #1391, and American Legion Post #494.  He found great pride in collecting and restoring vintage cars. In his earlier years Chuck found great enjoyment in fishing, especially at Perch Lake, and working in his vegetable garden.

Chuck is survived by one son, Kenneth (Cheryl) Tucker; one daughter, Pearl Kennedy, all of Racine; four grandchildren, Jamielee W. Kennedy, Donna (Glenn) Kennedy-Ostrowski, Raymond (Heidi) Shockley, Kenneth Tucker Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Chase, Raymond II, Isabel and Jen. He is further survived by two sisters, Willma Miner and Georgia Pollock. Chuck is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

He was preceded by his wife, Florence on April 14, 2006; and two sisters, Thelma Heikkila and Katie Shell.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, April 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. Chuck will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the VFW, 820 Main Street Racine, WI  53403.
