Frances 'Polly' (Bruton) Baker

Frances Baker, age 84, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center. Frances was born in Racine, June 3, 1926, daughter of the late Luke J. and Frances (Nee: Dederich) Bruton.

Frances was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1943.” Furthering her education, she graduated from Marquette University with a degree in social work. On February 1, 1952, at St. Richard Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Robert B. Baker, who preceded her in death on June 14, 1994. Frances was an active member of St. Edward Catholic Church, where she taught religious education, led Bible studies and sang in the church choir.

Frances was a true believer in education at all levels, mentoring her children and grandchildren on their studies. Through example and encouragement she urged everyone who knew her to pursue a life of learning. She loved history, reading, traveling and her lifelong home, Racine. More than anything, she cherished time spent with her family. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her children, Robert (Carol) Baker Jr. of Franklin, Alan (Mary) Baker of Danbury, CT, Kevin (Kathy) Baker of Fort Collins, CO, Brian (Marianne) Baker, Laura (Alan) Thiede, all of Brookfield; her twelve grandchildren, Michael and Stefanie Baker, David and James Baker, Kari (David) Staples, Luke and Wade Baker, Sarah, Joseph and Rachel Baker, August and Max Thiede; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Baker; sister, Cathryn Miller of Racine.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 20, 2010, at 6 p.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Ave., with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at church from 5 p.m. until time of Mass at 6 p.m. Memorials to St. Edward Catholic Church, St. Catherine’s High School, National Parkinson’s Foundation, or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her caregivers at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center and to friends and family for their loving and compassionate care.
