Samuel L. Porcaro

Surrounded by his loving family, Samuel L. Porcaro, age 91, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010, at his residence. Samuel was born in Racine, June 19, 1919, son of the late Frank and Josephine (Nee: DeRose) Porcaro.

On June 26, 1943, he was united in marriage to Clara Marunowski in St. Adalbert's Church in Milwaukee, WI. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from William Horlick High School “Class of 1937.” Sam served in the United States Army Air Force from 1942-1945. He worked in the family store known as Porcaro’s Grocery and Meat Market for 57 years, retiring in December 1992. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Roma Lodge. Sam was well known for his Italian sausage, which he enjoyed making. He was an avid sports fan who golfed and bowled. He also had a great love for music and was an excellent dancer. More than anything, Sam treasured time spent with his family. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Clara; son, James (Mary) Porcaro of Racine; daughter, Julie (Jeff) Callahan of Appleton, WI; granddaughters, Andrea (Christopher) Schluter of Slinger, WI, Kathryn (Joseph) Wolters of Denver, CO; great-grandson, Colton Schluter of Slinger, WI; sister, Lucille Porcaro of Racine; sister-in-law, Sylvia Samsa of Willoghby, OH; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Isabella Schluter; brothers, Herman, Joseph, John and Michael; sisters, Antoinette DeRose, Louise Coconate, Rose Rider and Mary Porcaro.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 17, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave., with Rev. Ronald O. Crewe officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. (Roma Lodge Service at 5:30 p.m.) and Friday at the church from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice especially, Jill and Lori, and all the friends at Parkview for their loving and compassionate care.
