James John "Jake" Jacobsen, 79, passed away at Aurora St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee on Thursday, December 9, 2010.
Jake was born in Racine to the late Hans and Dorothy (nee: Price) Jacobsen on February 10, 1931. He attended William Horlick High School and served with the United States Air Force in Alaska and also in Utah, where he met his wife, Lillian Sarah Orton. James and Lillian were united in marriage on February 10, 1954, and moved back to Racine, where he lived the rest of his life.
Jake was employed by the United States Postal Service for over 40 years until he retired in 1996. He loved sports in general, but especially enjoyed the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. Jake enjoyed playing cards at the VFW Club and swimming at Quarry Lake Park.
Jake will be missed by his wife, Lillian; his children, Debbie Jacobsen, Patricia Jacobsen, James (Christine Zyszkiewicz) Jacobsen, John (Karyn Hoecherl) Jacobsen, and Sarah Crull; nine grandchildren, Casey, Carolina, Gabriella, Ema, Ethan, John Peter, Genevieve, Kaitlyn and Kian; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Cody Lee Crull; and two sisters, Shirley Cramer and Jean Polonski.
A funeral ceremony will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday evening, December 13, 2010, at 6 p.m. Per his wishes, Mr. Jacobsen will be cremated. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of the ceremony.
