David A. Abbott

With his family by his side, David A. Abbott, age 58, passed away Saturday evening, January 19, 2013, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital. David was born in Racine on April 11, 1954, son of the late Nephi and Ferne (nee: Hawes) Abbott.

David was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1973.” He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. With a great ability to fix  things, Dave was employed for many years with the Holiday Inn and most recently with Trike Property Management. On May 12, 1990, he was united in marriage to Julie Ann Sydlo. An avid outdoorsman, Dave enjoyed fishing and camping. Above all, he loved his time with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Julie; children, Jeff (Michelle) Abbott, Sherri Abbott, Katie Abbott (Heather Davis), Karen (Shawn) McCarter; grandchildren, Bryce and Marissa Abbott, Andrew Sylvester, Alyssa Sylvester; great-granddaughter, Rylee; brother, Paul Abbott; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cyndi (David) Weiss, Lynn Sydlo, Mary Jo Abbott, Jackie Sydlo, Frank Sydlo; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Dave was also preceded in death by his brother, Dan; and his step-father, John Umiker.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Brad Van Fossen officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Wheaton Franciscan that cared for Dave in his battle with COPD. Also, a special thank you goes to his lifelong friends, the Cottonaro's.
