Wilma L. (Proeber) Kaplan

Surrounded by her family Wilma Luella Kaplan, age 90, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. She was born in Racine County on July 28, 1922, daughter of the late William and Ella (nee: Erbe) Proeber.

Wilma graduated from Wm Horlick High School “Class of 1940.” During WWII she served in the Women’s Army Corps as a laboratory technician stationed at Ft. Sheridan Station Hospital. On August 3, 1946, in Racine she was united in marriage to James E. Kaplan, who preceded her in death on October 19, 1994.

She was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed listening to the choir. Previously she had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Wilma also volunteered for many organizations, including 40 years at the Lutheran High Thrift Shop. She enjoyed traveling and spending her retirement winters in Texas. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her sons, James (Julie M.) Kaplan Jr, Daniel W. Kaplan; grandchildren, Justin Kaplan, Alison Kaplan; brothers, William Proeber, Robert Proeber; sister, Eunice Adensam; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Gertrude Eichler and Phyllis Mohrland.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 31, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1501 Erie St., with Reverend Daniel Feldscher officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. and Thursday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church or one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
