Ernest John 'Ernie' Erbe, age 89, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. He was born in Racine on April 14, 1923, son of the late Christian and Barbara (Nee: Bense) Erbe and had been a lifelong resident.
Ernie graduated from Wm Horlick High School “Class of 1941” and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII stationed in the European Theatre. On June 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to Elaine L. Hauser, who preceded him in death on May 12, 1999. Ernie was employed by Walker Mfg. for 14 years and retired from Webster Electric after 25 years of employment. He had a strong faith and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Ernie was a devoted husband and beloved uncle who will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his sisters-in-law, Helen Erbe and Marion Hauser; nieces and nephews, Barbara Faulls, Jane Erbe, Betty Erbe, Steve (Cyndi) Erbe, Thomas Erbe, Mary (Scott) Zierten, Paul Erbe, Brian (Mary) Hauser; great-nieces and great-nephews, Zack and Tara Lovdahl, John Hauser, Brian, Emily, Julie, Dan, Michael, and Bradley Erbe; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harvey (Adele), Lester; and two nephews, Alan and Jim Erbe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Memorials to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church have been suggested.
