Bertha Jean Fieschko, age 100, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center.
She was born in Menominee, MI. on October 8, 1911. The family moved to Racine in the early 1920s, and Ms. Fieschko graduated from Washington Park High School. A longtime resident of Racine, she was employed at several Racine-based companies as a stenographer and secretary, and took retirement from the Dumore Corporation after 38 years of service. She continued to work part-time through much of her retirement for Racine Federated, Inc.
She was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church. She was an avid dancer, enjoyed travel, including occasional trips to the casino, and participated in the Racine Theatre Guild. In her retirement she was an Associate Advisor to the Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources. She always gave much focus to gardening and maintaining her house (the family homestead), as well as keeping in touch with her large extended family. Above all, it was time she spent with her family that she treasured most. She will be dearly missed.
Surviving are a brother, Joseph E. Fieschko of Lebanon, PA; and a sister, Mary E. Koneske of Racine. She is further survived and will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Bertha Fieschko was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Adesko Fieschko and William B. Fieschko; and her siblings, Frank, John, Ted, Walter and Sophia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 14, 2012, at noon, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Ave., with Reverend Allen Bratkowski officiating. Private interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay respects Friday, January 13, at the Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home in Racine, from 5 – 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Edward's Parish in Racine.
