STURTEVANT - Robert Torres, 67, passed away at his residence surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, January 23, 2012, after a courageous three-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Robert was born in Waukesha on October 27, 1944, to the late Tereso and Louise (nee: Olivares) Torres. He had lived in Sturtevant all of his life.
Robert was a veteran of the United States Army and was proud to serve during the Vietnam War. He had a passion for truck driving. He owned and operated BSA Trucking and later drove for numerous companies including J.I. Case Corporate Fleet and Roadway. He retired from the Teamsters Local 200. Robert enjoyed gardening vegetables, tending to his lawn and playing with his dogs, Starr and Arrow. Most of all, he loved being on the road. "My truck is at the stop. And I'm on Route 66."
Robert is survived by his daughters, Candy Torres of Door County and April Torres of Sturtevant; brothers, Manuel (Esperanza) Torres of Leipsic, OH, Jesse Torres of Union Grove, James Torres of Racine, David (Evy) Torres of San Antonio, TX, and Lou Torres of Muskego; sister, Olivia Highman of Sturtevant; sister-in-law, Lilly Sue Torres of Burlington; nieces and nephews, Lisa, Lance and Lyle Torres, Kevin Leys; aunts, Leonila Roma of Waukesha and Margaret Olivares of Kenosha; other relatives and many dear friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Amador Torres; and sister, Consuelo Resendez.
A Celebration of Mr. Torres’ life will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at 9 a.m. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Friday evening, January 27, 2012, from 5 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the family.
