Edith Isenberg

Portland, OR -- Edith Dorothy Isenberg, former Director of Student Health Services at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Rose Schnitzer Manor in Portland, Oregon.

She was born in Stuttgart, Germany, on April 28, 1930, daughter of the late Hans and Else (nee Osterberg) Sternheim. Edith and her parents immigrated to the United States in 1939 as refugees of the Holocaust. Edith graduated from nursing school at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital in New York, NY, going on to graduate as a Registered Nurse from Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee, WI, and earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL.

On November 23, 1950, she was united in marriage to Dr. Norbert Isenberg, Ph.D. Edith was very active in and gave to the community of Racine through her participation in many groups and organizations including the Racine Nurses Association, Beth Israel Sinai Temple Sisterhood, the Inter-Generational Arts Fairs, and the Retired Nurses Association. Her family includes her late loving husband of 53 years, Norbert (died in 2004); her three sons, Ralph (Nicole), Mark (Catie), and Jon; and daughter, Dr. Lori Stargrove (Mitch); 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought Edith much delight.

Funeral services will be held at Beth Israel Sinai Temple, 944 Main St., on Thursday, November 8 2012, at 11 a.m. with Rabbi Martyn Adelberg officiating. Interment will follow at the Racine Jewish Memorial Cemetery, 612 Lathrop Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beth Israel Sinai Temple and the Nurse’s Foundation of Racine for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside scholarship fund.
