Surrounded by his loving family, William O. Vandiford Jr., age 64, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012, at his residence. William was born in North Carolina on March 14, 1948, son of the late William O. and Hettie (Nee: Jones) Vandiford Sr.
A veteran of twenty years, William proudly served in the United States Navy in Vietnam. On December 12, 1970, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church he was united in marriage to Jackie L. Hudson. He was employed as an electrician at P.D.I. for many years. Known for using a dollar for a bookmark, William enjoyed reading his favorite books over and over. He was also passionate about playing World of Warcraft on the computer and engaging in lively debates over current events with his friends. Most of all, he was a loving and caring southern gentleman who will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-two years, Jackie; his three children, Mariah, Oscar and Rosa; brother, Cleo Vandiford; sister, Monica (Jimmy) Cayton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jeri Smith (Ray), Terri (Dave) Braun, Tammy Hudson; nieces, nephews, other relatives, many dear friends; and his late-night snacking buddy, Maggie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Harper.
A private memorial service was held.
