William 'Bill' L. Zlevor

William “Bill” L. Zlevor, cherished husband, father and grandfather, age 82, passed away Friday, November 9, 2012, at Lakeshore Manor. Bill was born in Racine on April 14, 1930, son of the late William L. and Alice C. (Nee: Van Rooy) Zlevor.

Bill was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1948,” as well as his wife, Elaine. Furthering his education, he graduated from Spencerian College, August of 1951, with a Bachelor's degree in  Business Administration. He was a member of the Pi Rho Zeta Business Fraternity.

On July 26, 1952, at St. Rita Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Elaine A. Schliesmann.

From September of 1951 to September of 1953 Bill proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After graduating from Army Finance School, he served as an instructor for the Civil Service in military pay procedures at the pay centers in Indianapolis and St. Louis. After honorable discharge, Bill worked for the Ladish Company Tri-Clover Division as Assistant Chief Accountant. 

In 1958 Bill joined J.I. Case Company/Tenneco Company as a supervisor in the Accounting Department. He served as Case/Tenneco's representative on the Board of Directors of Batten International Airport from 1958 until 1992. In 1981 Bill was appointed Vice President and General Manager, Treasurer of Batten International Airport until his retirement in 1992. He acted as consultation for Batten Field from 1992 to 1996. Bill also owned and operated the Zlevor Accounting and Tax Service from 1960 to present.

Bill was actively involved in many organizations including: The Boy Scouts at St. John Nepomuk Church for several years where he also acted as a committee chairman for four years, EAA Chapter 838 Experimental Aircraft Association, The Catholic Veterans Color Guards for three years, American Legion Post 310, Racine Taxpayers Association, J.I. Case “20 Year Club,” and was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church and the National Society of Tax Professionals.

Bill’s interests included flying and traveling throughout the United States and Europe. His family was most important to him and he cherished many camping trips and time spent at the summer home on Spencer Lake, Waupaca, WI. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife, Elaine, of 60 years; his children, Mark (Cathie) Zlevor of Burlington, WI, Dr. Michael (Irene) Zlevor of LaGrange Park, IL, Mary Beth (Jon) Botting of Racine, Jane (Peter) Bayer of Parker, CO; his grandchildren, Don (Kelly) Zlevor, Erik (Kate) Zlevor, Kelsey Zlevor, Zachary Zlevor, Kevin Botting, Claire Botting, Peter Bayer, Cole Bayer; brother, David (Adele) Zlevor of Racine; sister, Winifred (Gerald) Winser of Racine; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John (Nancy) Schliesmann of Brookfield, WI, Carol (Don) Robotka of Racine, Lyle Septon of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green St. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church or St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested.
