Sturtevant -- Clayton Howard Batchelder, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at Hospice House Racine. He was born in Concord, New Hampshire, on January 6, 1926, son of the late Harold and Edna (Nee: Frost) Batchelder.
Clayton proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Annabelle "Scotty" Hill, in Scotland. On May 22, 1949, in Racine, Wisconsin, they were united in marriage. Clayton and Annabella moved to Racine in 1949. He was employed by Andis Clipper Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1991. Clayton enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Scotty; daughters, Barbara (Joe) Falduto of Ft. Meyers, FL, Janet (Joe) Schmidt of Black River Falls, WI; grandchildren, Nicholas (Christie) Schmidt, Ryan (Cindy) Roeschen, Leslie Falduto and Jon Shipley, Lindsay Falduto and Alex Coppolo, Alex (Bridget) Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Breanna, Taylor and Raelyn Schmidt, Caden Roeschen, August and Declan Shipley; sister, Evelyn (Phil) Gallant; brother, Horace Batchelder; sister-in-law, Janet (Harry) Christensen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Morgan Rae Schmidt; sisters, Ruth, Dorothy and Verona; and brothers, Reginald and Ralph.
A Committal Service with Full Military Honors will be held on Monday, October 13, 2014, at noon at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring St., Town of Dover.
