George D. Smith, age 88, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014, at his residence. George was born in Concordia, Kansas, on May 16, 1926, son of the late George and Viola Smith.
During World War II George proudly served in the United States Army. On August 17, 1973, in Racine, he was united in marriage to Ethel F. Allen. George was a solid born-again Christian who belonged to Grace Church. An avid traveler, he enjoyed attending various Christian conferences. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-one years, Ethel; his children, Cynthia (James) Ryan, Lloyd (Camille) Williams, Richard Williams; son-in-law, James Freeman; beloved grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and very dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Wenonah L. Freeman and Debbie Cozzi; sister, Stella Oliver; and three brothers, Taylor, Norman and Walter Smith.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at noon at Grace Church, 3636 Highway 31, with Rev. Sam Jackson officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon. Private interment will be held at Warren Cemetery, Gurnee, IL. Memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
