Susan M. Metzger, age 94, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center. Susan was born in Langdon, North Dakota, on December 27, 1919, daughter of the late Stanley and Helen (Nee: Washebeck) Rorek and moved to Racine at the age of 8.
On June 10, 1939, she was united in marriage to Edward W. Metzger Sr., who preceded her in death on July 13, 1970. In her younger years Susan was employed as a waitress at various restaurants, and had worked at Western Printing, Roma Lodge, RAMAC, Racine Labor Center, retiring from St. Luke’s Hospital as Housekeeping Supervisor. She was a former member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and currently a member of St. John Nepomuk Parish and belonged to the Christian Mother’s Craft Class. Through the years she was also involved with many other organizations. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her children, Edward W. (Barbara) Metzger Jr. of Iola, WI, Marianne Boeck-Hamlin of Racine, Judith Thomas of Wisconsin Dells; nine grandchildren, Tammy (Dean) Riesner, Lory Metzger, Dawn (Jon) Hunter, Melody Raygoza, Melvin (Claire) Erdmann III, Michelle Jensen, Michael (Tina) Erdmann, Scott (Michelle) Boeck, Aaron (Jennifer) Boeck; 18 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Henry, Frank and Victor Rorek; and three sisters, Marcella Paulick, Mary Kwas and Delores Baker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1908 Green St., followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family would also like to extend a great thank you to Dr. David Ross and the staffs of Loving Care Home, Wheaton Franciscan Cardiac Unit and Wheaton Franciscan Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
