Harold William 'Brownie' Brown

Harold William Brown, “Brownie,” age 104, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at the Racine Hospice House. Harold was born in Merrill, WI, on October 28, 1910, son of the late Henry and Helen (Nee: Jaeger) Brown.

Harold was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1929.” On September 5, 1936, in Chicago, IL, he was united in marriage to Josephine Lawrence, who preceded him in death on October 6, 1986.

Harold was a chemist at S.C. Johnson for forty years, retiring in 1976, and belonged to their “20 Year Club.” He was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church and the Racine Elks Club.

A golf enthusiast, Harold played into his nineties and always walked the course. He also played softball in his younger years. An avid Badger and Packer fan, Harold attended many Packer games, including the Ice Bowl of 1967. He enjoyed Big Band music and collecting S.C. Johnson and Green Bay Packer memorabilia. He had a strong love and devotion to his family and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his children, Paul (Pam) Brown of GA, Cathy Brown of Madison, Julie (Bill) McCourtie of MI; his grandchildren, Peter (Denise) McCormick, AJ (Christy) Brown, Tim Schultz, Kate McCourtie, Stephen McCourtie; five great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Brown of Racine; sister-in-law, Cynie Lawrence of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Lois Brown; and his sister, Irene Hamilton.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at noon at the funeral home with Chaplain Terry Peterson officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon. Private Interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holy Communion Lutheran Church or to Hospice Alliance have been suggested.
