Eleanor Christina (Hansen) Nielsen

Mrs. Eleanor Christina Nielsen, 96, passed away at Becker Shoop Center on June 14, 2010. She was born in Waukegan, IL, on May 24, 1914, to the late Martin and Margaret (nee: Petersen) Hansen.

She grew up in the Ives Grove area, where her parents owned a grocery store named Hansen’s General Store. It is there that she met the love of her life, Frankie. She was united in marriage to Frank A. Nielsen in Racine on July 14, 1934; they were married for 70 years, until his death on Feb. 24, 2005.

Eleanor graduated from Union Grove High School. She was a faithful lifelong member of Atonement Lutheran Church. She belonged to a sewing club with a group of close friends that did needle work together. She was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and her cat. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She will be dearly missed by her two children, Arlene (David) LaMack and Dr. Kenneth R. (Rose) Nielsen; three grandchildren, Karen (David) Peterson, Elizabeth Nielsen, Mary (Kurt) Swanson; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Peterson, Sarah Peterson, Tyler Peterson and Luke Swanson; and one brother, Robert (Elizabeth) Hansen. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janet Rae; one grandson, Michael LaMack; one sister, Lillian (Tony) Margis; one childhood sister, Sigrid Hansen.

Funeral services will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave., on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Denise Mbise officiating. Interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park, following  a funeral lunch. Friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
