Viola L. (Hammond) Streuli

Viola L. Streuli, age 91, passed away Sunday morning, June 13, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center. Viola was born in Volin, South Dakota, March 13, 1919, daughter of the late John and Jennie (Nee: Steigler) Hammond and had been a resident of Racine since she was 17.

On February 14, 1942, at the Church of the Atonement in Racine she was united in marriage to her Valentine, William J. Streuli, who preceded her in death, January 9, 1974. Viola was a charter member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church since 1947. Her many talents included flower gardening and baking, especially Christmas cookies. Vi had a flair for design with accessories from her shoes to purses, clothes and home décor. She lived to dance and danced to live. Vi will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Geraldine Streuli; her grandchildren, Todd (Lynn) Streuli of West Bend, Jennifer Ross, Chad Schuman, both of Racine; her great-grandchildren, Ryan Streuli, Scott and Rebecca Ross; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Streuli; and her loving sister and caregiver, Ethel Malvasio of Racine; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by her son, Robert W. Streuli, on September 7, 1990; and her sister, Eleanor Hanson Bertelle, on October 27, 2009.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1700 South Green Bay Road, with Rev. Kara Baylor officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m.

The family extends a special thank you to the Ridgewood staff on 2 West for their loving and compassionate care given to Vi. Vi and her family would also like to thank her many friends at Ridgewood, especially Arlene and Stella; to Dominic and her friends at Washington Court; and to Marcella Koenig for their many acts of kindness.
