Mary E. Vanoss, age 84, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at the Becker-Shoop Center. Mary was born in St. Paul, MN, September 20, 1925, daughter of the late Raymond and Florence (Nee: Johnson) Lanphear.
On January 18, 1941, in Racine she was united in marriage to Leon A. Vanoss who preceded her in death in 1962. Mary was employed by St. Mary’s Medical Center as a supervisor for thirty years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Auxiliary. More than anything, Mary loved being in the surroundings of her family. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her children, Lee (Deacon Terry) Maack of Kenosha, Judy (fiance, Bill Howe) Schutts of Cordova, IL, Carol (Gary) Brown of Racine, Roni (Jim) Smith of Racine, Leon (Mary) Vanoss of Kenosha, Frank Vanoss of Racine; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three children, her infant son, Frank Joseph, Madalyn (Roland) Wampole, Mary Lou King; son-in-law, David Schutts; and special friend, Grace Buchaklian.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave., with Rev. Ronald O. Crewe and Rev. Hayward M.I.C. concelebrating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9:15 a.m. until 9:45 a.m.
