She was born February 12, 1915, in Racine and was a lifelong resident. On May 9, 1936 in Woodstock, IL she was united in marriage to Pete S. Vallone and they were together for 63 years until he passed away November 20, 1999.Bena was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Pat Vallone of Racine; her son and daughter-in-law, Peter D. and Tricia Vallone of New Haven, CT; granddaughter, Carla Vallone and husband Greg Fleishman of Del Mar, CA; a great granddaughter, Sofia; brother, Joseph (Mary) Shinkunas of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister, Emma Hetzelberger of Racine; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Steffa Gedraitis and Anna (Joseph) Grauwels.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1533 Erie Street, Wednesday, June 4, 2008, 10:30 A.M. with Reverend John D. Aiello officiating. Entombment will follow at Calvary Crypts, Kinzie Avenue. Relatives and friends may meet with the family for visitation at the church on Wednesday 9:30 A.M. until time of Mass. Memorials to the Arthritis Foundation have been suggested.
