Carol R. (Reith) Johansen

Carol R. Johansen, age 77, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at her residence. Carol was born in Racine, October 15, 1932, daughter of the late Edward and Rose (Nee: Severin) Reth.

Carol was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1950.” On May 26, 1956, at Redeemer Lutheran Church she was united in marriage to Gerald C. Johansen. Carol enjoyed tending to her flower garden. Above all she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, Jerry; her children, Shane (Patty) Johansen of Raymond, Lynn Johansen of Racine; her grandchildren, Tony Johansen (fiancée, Adrienne Gustin), Kim Johansen, Dani Johansen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Duncanson, Jack (Carol) Johansen, Betty Johansen; nephews, Ed (Marian) Reth of VA, Mark Duncanson, Scott Duncanson, John (Gretchen) Duncanson; lifelong best friend, Esther Paul; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, William; and nephew, Billy Reth.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Monday, October 4, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. George Schlagel officiating. Interment will follow at Mound Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and Monday at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.

Beverly M. (Bohn) Dresen

Beverly M. Dresen, age 68, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at the United Hospital System, Kenosha. Beverly was born in Racine, November 10, 1941, daughter of the late Raymond J. and Margaret (Nee: Seitz) Bohn.

Beverly was employed by Racine Industries for over twenty years, retiring in 2008. Beverly enjoyed playing bingo at the Elks Lodge and the American Legion in Kenosha. She was a hard working woman with a beautiful heart who will be dearly missed by many.

Survivors include her significant other, Alex Petri; her children, Kelly (Kevin Shea) Dresen, William Dresen; her granddaughter, Cassie; sisters, Mary Ivanoski, Sr. Kathleen Bohn O.P., Sr. Margaret Rose Bohn O.P.; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Patricia Schuster, Barbara Paque, William Bohn, and Gerald Bohn.

George C. Kroes Jr.

George C. Kroes Jr., age 80, was reunited in heaven with his loving wife, RoseMarie Kroes, Tuesday, September 28, 2010. George was born in Racine October 3, 1929, son of the late George and Josephine (Nee: Bergervoert) Kroes.

On May 10, 1952, he was united in marriage to RoseMarie Lukawski at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church who preceded him in death, September 12, 2010. George was employed by the North Park Sanitary District for 42 years retiring in 1997 as superintendent. George and RoseMarie also owned and operated their family farm retiring in 1999. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be dearly missed.

George is survived by his seven children, Sharon Kroes of Yakima, WA, Diane (Al) Sinner, Randall (Joann) Kroes, Debbie (Jim) Roeder, Jeanne Kroes (Ray Wagner), Julie (Dan) Nelson, Ron Kroes, all of Racine; six grandchildren, Brian (Tracy) Sinner, Karen (Carl) Johnson, Gina Sinner, Kelly, Craig, and Mark Roeder; three great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Mary Zerzanek, Dorie Madala, Josie Polcin, Paul Kroes, Ted (Lorrie) Kroes; sisters-in-law, Elaine Kroes, Pat Kroes. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends including his “George Webb Family.”

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John (Pat) Kroes, Lambert Kroes, Henry Kroes; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dolores (Leo) Janikowski, Catherine (Robert) Keenan, Rudolph Zerzanek, John Madala, John Polcin, and Louise Kroes.

Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. At 12:30 p.m. the funeral will proceed to St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., for A Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1 p.m.. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to St. Rita Catholic Church have been suggested.

David A. Meinert

David A. Meinert, age 62, sadly passed away unexpectedly from heart problems, Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at his residence. David was born in Racine, January 2, 1948, son of the late Elmer and Audrey (Nee: Heyer) Meinert.

David attended William Horlick High School. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army in the demilitarization effort while stationed in Korea. David, a journeyman machinist, worked at Gorton Machine Co., Racine Iron & Wire Works Inc., Maintenance Service Corp., Frank L. Wells Co., and at one time, he owned and operated Champion Trophy and Uniform in Racine. He recently retired after working for the Department of Defense at the Great Lakes Naval Base.

David had a great zest for life and love for his family. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, a hobby that his two sons continued. A devoted, loving and adored father, he received great enjoyment from his involvement with his daughter’s violin lessons; time with the Kiltie Kadets; coaching her soccer, T-ball, softball and basketball teams; and encouraging her in furthering her education. He took pride in teaching his sons woodworking and carpentry, sharing his gun collection and talking about his proud service in the U.S. Army. He encouraged his children to always do their best. He loved sharing his many skills while working on his daughter and son-in-law’s house. Upon his recent retirement, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren, taking pictures with his new camera, spending time with his siblings, and dreaming about his retirement plans. For his family and friends, David would do anything. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his children, Cindy (Joseph) Scolaro of Mt. Prospect, IL, Daniel (Rachelle) Bethards of Brule, WI, Jeffrey (Julia) Bethards of Lake Nebagamon, WI; his grandchildren, Heather, Sarah and David Bethards, and Emily and Sofia Scolaro; brothers and sisters, Richard (Donna) Meinert, Patricia Durik (Earl Morgan), Peter (Carol) Meinert, Suzanne (late Gerald) Lamb, Linda Baer, Nancy Halbur, Diane (Dean) Turner; brother-in-law, Robert Cairns; nieces, nephews, many special relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his dearly missed sister, Debra Cairns; and brother-in-law Gerald (Bud) Lamb.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Christ Church United Methodist Church, 5109 Washington Ave., with Rev. Mark Swanson officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Frank L. Johnson

Frank Lee Johnson, 71, passed away surrounded by family at his residence on Monday, September 27 2010.

He was born in Kansas City, MO, on December 23, 1938, to Edwin Lee and Virginia Lealand (nee: Cain) Johnson. Frank grew up in the small Kansas town of Ottawa with his parents and his sister, Janice Kast. Frank graduated from Ottawa High School in 1957, the University of Kansas in 1962, and Washburn Law School in Topeka, Kansas. Frank served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves for two years. He was united in marriage with Carolyn Baggett on August 31, 1968, in Columbia, South Carolina.

After Law School he served as legal advisor for Kansas governor Robert Docking and served as the State of Kansas Pardon and Extradition Attorney. After a change in governorship, he was in private practice before becoming the County Counsel for Shawnee County, Kansas. In 1980 he and his family moved to Racine, WI, and up until his retirement in 2006 he was the Attorney and Director of Employment Relations for the Racine Unified School District. In 2006 he was awarded the George Tipler Award for Distinguished Service in School Law. He was a member of the Racine Bar Association, Wisconsin School Attorneys Association, President 1994-95; Urban School Negotiators Association, Board of Directors, and the Wisconsin Bar Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his half-brother Alwin R. Johnson of Grays Lake, Illinois. Frank is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carolyn; his sons, Michael (Holly) and Christopher; and one granddaughter. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Kast of Vassar, Kansas; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Frank’s life will be held Saturday, October 2, 2010, at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. with A Time of Remembering to begin at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Frank can be made to the Brain Tumor Research Fund, Department of Neurology, 9200 W. Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53226 or the American Brain Tumor Society.

Arthur Herbert Hilker

Arthur Herbert Hilker, 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 26, 2010. He was born in Racine on March 17, 1924, to the late Benjamin and Jennie (nee: Grabe) Hilker. He lived his whole life in Racine.

He was united in marriage to the former Betty Jane Parsons in Racine on June 3, 1949. He graduated from William Horlick High School, Class of 1942. He served in the United States Marine Corps Pacific Theater during World War II. He studied with Chicago Technical College to pursue his building trade. After working many years as a carpenter for other contractors, he established a partnership as Wynstra and Hilker Construction Co. then went into business for himself, as Hilker Construction Co., retiring in 2000.

He was a member of Racine Bible Church. Mr. Hilker was a faithful husband, father and grandfather who loved his family, providing for them and investing in their lives.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of 61 years; four children, Jonathan (Deborah) Hilker of Racine, Thomas (Susan) Hilker of Elkhorn, James (Linda) Hilker of Derry, NH, Julia (Kyle) Scantling of Racine; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Winnifred Johnson of Racine; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Racine Bible Church, 12505 Spring St., on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Miesel officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home, 1212 Lathrop Ave., on Thursday evening Sept 30, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Monica F. Garbo (Schweitzer) Principe

Surrounded by her loving family, Monica F. Garbo Principe passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010, with her family by her side. Monica was born in Racine, January 29, 1921, daughter of the late Theodore N. and Emma (Nee: Benish) Schweitzer.

On August 3, 1940, at St. Rita Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Santo Garbo who preceded her in death, October 3, 1965. After her husband Santo passed away, Monica operated the family business, Garbo Motor Sales, retiring in 2008. On February 13, 1971, at St. Rita Catholic Church Monica was united in marriage to Frank S. Principe. She was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church. Monica devoted her life to her family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her husband, Frank; her children, Karen J. McBurney, Richard J. (Margaret) Garbo, Thomas S. (Karen) Garbo; her nine grandchildren, Carrie (Glen) O’Malley, Matthew (Amy) McBurney, Sally (James) Wedde, Robert J. (Nancy) Garbo, Elizabeth Giese, Lisa (Jay) Webb, Anthony (Brenda) Garbo, Jennifer (Jeffery) Shawhan, Steven T. Garbo; 14 great-grandchidren; brother, James F. Schweitzer; sister, Sr. Marcella Schweitzer O.S.F.; sister-in-law, Charlotte Schweitzer; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Regina Friis Doperalski

Mt. Pleasant -- Regina F. (nee: Ernstein) Doperalski, 92, passed away on September 24, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare- All Saints.

Regina was born in Bismarck, ND, to the late Peter and Katherine (nee: Jensen) Ernstein on December 22, 1917, and lived her early years on the family farm in North Dakota before moving to Racine, where she spent the rest of her life. She was united in marriage to Raymond John Doperalski in June 1950; he preceded her in death in December 1990.

Regina was employed at Hamilton Beach Company for a number of years, but the highlight of her career was when she moved to Seattle, WA, to work for Boeing Aircraft during WWII. She worked for many years as a cook for BeeBee’s Restaurant. She enjoyed cooking meals, especially breads, and was an avid gardener who loved to can and preserve her vegetables and fruits from her fruit trees. She was known as a very giving, compassionate person who was strong willed and had an independent spirit. She was proud to raise her children and showed them much motherly love. She was also an advocate for education.

Regina will be missed by her four children, John Doperalski, Kathryn Doperalski, David Doperalski and Margaret (Larry) Clark; seven grandchildren, Holly (Steve) Dvorak, Joseph Doperalski, Hailley Doperalski, Samantha Kampe, Marie (Jake) Griese, Amy Clark and Emily Clark; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Charles Griese; as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; and daughter-in-law, Laura Doperalski.

Funeral services in memory of Regina will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday, September 27, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Monday, from 4:30 p.m. until the time of service. Edwin E. Oien

Edwin E. Oien, age 72, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2010, at his Sturtevant residence. He was born in Kingsford, MI, on February 2, 1938, son of the late earl and Helen (Nee: Behrens) Oien.

On August 11, 1962, Ed was united in marriage to Gail J. Adkins. Ed was employed by American Motors and then by Chrysler Corporation for 48 ½ years until his retirement in 2008.

Surviving are his wife, Gail; daughter, Kim Wilson; granddaughter, Angela Wilson; four brothers and one sister. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by one brother.

Private funeral services were held. Memorials to Orphaned Kanines, 1922 Kremer Ave., Racine, WI 53402, have been suggested by the family.

Kathryn Wynstra

Mrs. Kathryn Wynstra, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 22, 2010.

Kathryn was born in Kenosha to the late Benjamin and Agnes (nee: DeVries) Bosman on August 14, 1921. She grew up in Kenosha until she married Charles Wynstra on August 6, 1943. She had lived in Racine since then.

Mrs. Wynstra was a strong Christian and a faithful member of Calvary Memorial Church. She was a member of the church guild and helped with Sunday school. She also volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital. Kathryn was a faithful letter writer for about 25 years and she enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening. Recently, she was the Homecoming Queen of Ridgewood Care Center. Most importantly, she was a warm and loving wife, mother and grandmother who touched everyone’s heart.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Charlotte (William) Johnson and Ken (Kay) Wynstra; five grandchildren, William (Kristen) Johnson, Sharon Beiley, Stephen Johnson, Todd (Dayna) Wynstra and Jodie (Adam) Willey; ten great-grandchildren, Nicholas (Samantha) Orth, Samantha Johnson, Tiffany Beiley, Brittney Orth, Neil Johnson, Alexander Beiley, Logan Wynstra, Caitlin Wynstra, Julia Willey and Brady Wynstra; four great-great-grandchildren, Joseph Christman, Arianna Orth, Maximus Martinez and Isabella Orth (The Ken and Kay Wynstra family, children and grandchildren, all live in the state of Colorado); one sister, Alice (Peter) Jansen; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wynstra on March 22, 2002; and one son, Danny Wynstra on February 18, 1977.

A funeral ceremony will be held at Calvary Memorial Church, 4001 Washington Avenue, on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Rev. John Bylsma officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday, September 26, 2010, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. and on Monday morning at the church, from 9 a.m. until the time of the ceremony. Ruby Pearl (Schultz) Shidell

Ruby Pearl Shidell, 87, was surrounded by her family as she passed away peacefully, at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center, going home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born in Wausau, on Dec. 14, 1922, to the late Henry and Bertha (nee: Behnke) Schultz. She lived in Racine for 51 years since 1959. She graduated from Wausau High School Class of 1941.

In Wausau, she worked as a telephone operator. She was a receptionist for many companies, and then she was a Senior In-Home Healthcare Giver retiring at the age of 80 years. She was a very active member of First Evangelical Free Church since 1972. She was involved in many activities with the church: Sunday school teacher, choir and the senior club “One Day Closer.” Ruby was a volunteer with White Cross Missionary Work. She touched many lives, a very giving person with a heart of gold. She was a very special friend to all. She was a hometown Packer, Brewer and Badger fan. She was very good at whistling songs, along with enjoying her crafts, such as sewing, knitting and crocheting. Ruby was the glue that kept the family together. She was our family precious gem, Ruby Pearl. 

Ruby is the loving mother of two children; Larry (Mai) Shidell of Copperas Cove, TX, and Vivian Webster of Racine; the loving grandmother of ten, Dawn (Doug) Vorwald, Debbie (Brian) Kowalski, Dale (Robin) Webster, Dion Webster, Denim Webster, Ann Gibbs, Bini (Mike) Sanders, Missy Shidell, Brenda (Rian) Harden, James Shidell; the loving great-grandmother of 20, Jeremy, Jesse, Shawna, Stephanie, Brandon, Dayl Leigh, Taylor, Dylan, Thad, Jennifer, Jessica, Jason, Sierra, Skylar, Shayna, Monique, Cedric, Riley, Braedon, Rudy; and the loving great-great-grandmother of four. She is also survived by one brother, Wilbur “Nookie” (Etta) Schultz; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Shidell, Barbara Priebe, Ruthie Shidell; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends too numerous to mention. She was preceded in death by two sisters; seven brothers; and her former husband, Alfred Shidell.

Dorothy A. (Peterson) Lossin

Surrounded by her loving family, Dorothy A. Lossin, age 76, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Dorothy was born in Racine November 12, 1933, daughter of the late Herman and Margaret (nee: Jurewich) Peterson.

Dorothy was a proud graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1951.” In 1956 she fell in love with and married “Mickey” Edward J. Lossin who preceded her in death, May 17, 1998. They enjoyed forty-one years of devoted love to one another. Throughout their lives, Dorothy and Mickey befriended all and were generous to those in need.

Dorothy will be truly missed but so lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Gloria Peterson, Edward Peterson, Dan and Donna Peterson; nieces and nephews, Steven Miller, David Miller, Eric (Jenny) Peterson, Christian (Bonnie)Peterson, Lonnie (Tina) Peterson, Gina (Bob) Rendick, Frances Peterson, and Angela Peterson (Edward) Adams; many great nieces and great-nephews. Mark E. Koleske

Mark E. Koleske, age 78, passed away Monday, September 20, 2010, at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Mark was born in Racine, November 16, 1931, son of the late Francis and Veronica (Nee: Feest) Koleske.

Mark was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1950.” During the Korean War, Mark proudly served in the United States Army. On December 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to Sandra L. Johnson. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Racine Church Singers. Mark was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who treasured time spent with his family. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Sandy; his children, Tom Koleske, Jim (Jean) Koleske; his two grandchildren, Carter and Callie; sisters, Hildegard Walsh, Rita Barranco, Elaine Jones; brothers, Lawrence (LaVerne) Koleske, Louis Koleske, Daniel (Shirley) Koleske; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Josephine Koleske, Joseph Adamek, Judy (Andy) Madsen, Jane (Chuck) Bragg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Lotte (Hofmeier) Lopez

Lotte (nee: Hofmeier) Lopez passed over to eternal everlasting peace at Lakeshore Manor September 18, 2010, with family at her side.

Lotte was born September 6, 1921, in Nuremberg, Germany, the only child of Johann and Barbara (nee: Volkl) Hofmeier. She spent her childhood and early adult life in Nuremberrg where she received her education and survived the horrors of World War II.

Following marriage to an American soldier during the American occupation of Bavaria in 1948, she immigrated to the United States, became a United States citizen, settled in Racine, and became the proud mother of two children.

Lotte took her role seriously as homemaker and mother and was always there for her children and grandchildren. She was a hard worker, employed as a seamstress until retiring at the age of 70.

Besides homemaking, Lotte had enjoyed gardening, trips to her beloved Germany, cooking Sunday dinners for the family, and playful conversation with the family dog. However, let’s not forget that in recent years her most favorite pastime was watching shows about dogs on Animal Planet.

Lotte is survived by her two children, Charlotte (nee: Lopez) Holguin of Racine and E. John Lopez of Greeneville, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Stephanie Holguin of Racine and Clarissa (Everitt) Siebern of Tucson, Arizona; one much -loved great-grandchild, Jacob Sayre, also of Tucson; and special pet dog Isis. Lotte was preceded in death by her parents, numerous relatives and friends in Germany, and friends in Racine.

There will be no visitation or services. Lotte will eventually return to her beloved Germany, which she always missed.

Lotte’s daughter would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Lakeshore Manor for their compassionate care during the last two years of Lotte’s life.

Allen W. Gill

Allen W Gill, 83, passed away peacefully at Harmony Assisted Living of Racine on Friday, September 17, 2010. He was born on August 11, 1927, in Benton Township, to the late Enos and Velma (Nee:Tarrell) Gill.  He was united in marriage with Gwen Gray, on December 27, 1950, in Cuba City, Wisconsin. 

Allen is survived by his wife, Gwen; daughter, Heidi Gill (Bob Forrer); son, Scott (Lynn) Gill; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert Gill; and many nieces and nephews.    He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul, and two sons, Greg and Jeffery. 

Allen graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a Bachelor of Science degree. He began his career by teaching high school agriculture in Lena and Richland Center, Wisconsin. He became a 4-H agent in 1957 in Oconto, WI, and retired in 1986 after 25 years of service as Racine County’s 4-H agent.  He loved his work and spending time with his family.  He also loved to research the family genealogy, work on his cars, plan household projects and cheer on his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3825 Erie St., Wednesday, September 22, at 11 a.m., the Reverend Rosalind Dryver-Scott officiating.  A private internment will be held. Friends and relatives will be welcome to meet with the family for visitation from 10 until time of service at the church.

Memorials in his memory may be made to the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation or Trinity United Methodist Church.

Marjory E. (Blake) Larrabee

Marjory E. Larrabee, age 78, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010, at her residence. Marjory was born in Menomonee, WI, on March 25, 1932, daughter of the late George and Vivian (Nee: Sanders) Blake.

On August 4, 1950, in Racine she was united in marriage to Orval L. Larrabee. She was a member of the Community Church of the Nazarene. An excellent seamstress, Marjory made many wedding dresses and enjoyed knitting and crocheting beautiful afghans for her children and grandchildren. She also found enjoyment in the kitchen, cooking and baking. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Orval; her seven children, Karen Larrabee, David (Pat) Larrabee, Kathryn (Dean) Paull, Mary Larrabee, Danny Larrabee, all of Racine, Kevin (Tammy) Larrabee of Wisconsin Dells, Chuck (Laura) Larrabee of Racine; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Carole (Jack) Johnson of OK, Jewel (George) Hammond of MN, Larry (Marie) Smith of NC, Barb (Larry) Brogan of MN; sister-in-law, Ramona Smith; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Walter (Dorothy) Larrabee, Ernest Larrabee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Melisa; and two brothers, William Blake and Donald Smith.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Community Church of the Nazarene, 8440 Spring St., with Marjory’s nephew, Rev. Jimmy Larrabee, and Rev. Ralph Scherer officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Frank 'Frank The Barber' Marshall Teigland

Frank M. Teigland, 80, passed away suddenly at WFH- All Saints on September 15, 2010.

Frank was born in Racine on December 7, 1929, to the late Ingebrit and Fredrikka (nee: Hansen) Teigland and lived his whole life in Racine. In 1951, he was united in marriage to Shirley Kirkendoll.

Frank proudly served his country in the Navy before his discharge in 1953. He was the owner of Frank’s Barber Shop (3015 Washington Ave.) for over 50 years before his retirement. He enjoyed music, especially “Big Band,” and played the trumpet. He also loved fishing, going up north to Wild Rose and to Branson, MO. He was also a member of the German Club.

Frank will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Shirley; daughter, Cindy (Jim) Rewald; son, Scott (Cheryl) Teigland; grandchildren, Stacey (Louis) Papas, Kelly Zanis, Scott Teigland, Heather Teigland; a niece, Susan Jacobson; great-grandchildren, Kailey and Ryder Papas, and soon to be born Madyson Skyy. Numerous friends also survive. Frank was preceded in death by a brother, Ingolf Teigland; and a sister, Evelyn Gusler.

Funeral services in memory of Frank will be held at the funeral home on September 19, 2010, at 6 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet the family from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Private entombment will take place at Graceland Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to one’s favorite charity.

Attorney Joseph J. Muratore Sr.

Attorney Joseph J. Muratore Sr., 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 15, 2010. He was born in Racine on April 23, 1933, to the late Giuseppe and Antonette (nee: Savaglia) Muratore. He was united in marriage with Helene DeCono on August 16, 1958, at Holy Rosary Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Helene; his son, Joe (Carolyn) Muratore; daughters, JoAnne (James) Bianco and Carol Muratore, and his grandchildren, Michael and Katherine Muratore, Christina, Victoria, Alessandra and Mia Bianco, and Matthew and Jennifer Dehler. He is also survived by his siblings, Catherine (Kenneth) Parr, Frank (Lynn) Muratore, Phyllis (Russell) Fergus, Sam Muratore and Mary Jo (James) Esser; and his wife’s siblings, Dolores (Rudolph) Ferraro, Joe (Kathy) DeCono and Richard (Nancy) DeCono, as well as many nieces, nephews, other family, friends and his secretary of 46 years, Mary Ann Lojeski.

Joe had a lively and adventuresome childhood growing up in Racine. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and St. Catherine's High School, where he played football, baseball and excelled in academics. After high school, Joe served in the United States Army during the Korean War and then attended Marquette University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He continued his education at Marquette Law School, graduating with a juris doctorate in 1960. Joe practiced law in the Racine area for fifty years, the last twenty-five with his beloved son and companion, Joe Jr. He held many leadership positions in the Racine legal community, including President of the Racine County Bar Association. Many lawyers viewed him as a role model who was both an effective advocate and a gentleman.

After taking up the sport at age 33, Joe became an avid competitive tennis player who won many local tournaments and in his later years often prevailed over players half his age. He played tennis well into his 77th year, including doubles tournaments with his grandson, Michael, in recent years.

Joe maintained an intellectual curiosity throughout his life. In his free time he enjoyed learning about history, art, math and science, and he especially enjoyed studying Italian language and culture. His greatest passion was his family. His wife, children and grandchildren were his highest priority and brought him great joy. He was an outstanding mentor to his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, September 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Shirley LaBrasca, age 91, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010, at the Franciscan Villa Care Center, in South Milwaukee. Shirley was born on July 3, 1919, in Black Earth, Wisconsin.

Shirley is survived by her son, Kenneth, and his wife, Shirley, of Racine; daughters, Nancy, of Tucson, AZ, and Janis, and her husband, Mike, of Tucson, AZ; daughter-in-law, Tara, of Los Angeles, CA; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Rosemarie Kroes

RoseMarie Kroes, age 78, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family after a brave battle with cancer. Rose was born in Racine on February 23, 1932, to John and Tekla (Nee: Narlock) Lukawski.

On May 10, 1952, Rose was united in marriage to George C. Kroes Jr. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Rose was a wonderful housewife and mother. Also, she was a bookkeeper for the family farm. She enjoyed cooking, gambling, and shopping. Most of all, she enjoyed and loved her cat, Lucy. Rose collected bells for many years and started a new hobby collecting miniature shoes.

Rose is survived by her husband, George; seven children, Sharon Kroes of WA, Diane (Allen) Sinner, Randall (Joann) Kroes, Debbie (Jim) Roeder, Jeanne Kroes (Ray Wagner), Julie (Dan) Nelson, Ron Kroes, all of Racine; six grandchildren, Brian (Tracy) Sinner, Karen (Carl) Johnson, Gina Sinner, Kelly, Craig and Mark Roeder; three great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Rose is also survived by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Zerzanek, Dorie Madala, Josie Polcin, Elaine Kroes, Pat Kroes, Paul Kroes, Ted (Lorrie) Kroes. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a special cousin, Mary Ann House.

Rose was preceded in death by her mother and father, John and Tekla Lukawski; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Josephine Kroes; infant brother, Arthur; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolores (Leo) Janikowski, Catherine (Robert) Keenan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rudolph Zerzanek, John Madala, John Polcin, John (Pat) Kroes, Lambert Kroes, Henry Kroes, and Louise Kroes.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010, at noon at the funeral home with Rev. Stephen J. Stradinger officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Rose DeRose) Biro

Rose Biro, age 93, passed away Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center. She was born in Racine, February 28, 1917, daughter of the late Fortunato and Maria DeRose and had been a lifelong resident.

Rose had been employed by Rainfair Inc for over 30 years retiring in 1980. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and currently a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church. She had been a member of St. Mary’s Auxiliary and the Sweet Adelines. She was very active in the Democratic Party and was a longtime poll worker. Rose enjoyed crafts, bingo, dancing and trips to Vegas. More than anything, it was her family that was most important and she instilled that in her children and grandchildren by leading by example. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her son, Robert Biro of Kenosha; daughter, Diane (Donald) Williams of Eloy, AZ; daughter-in-law, Trudy Biro of Racine; four grandchildren, Deneen (Curt) Czosnek of Racine; Gina (Mark) Godlewski of Racine, Jeffrey (Brenda) Williams of Spring Grove, IL; Brian (Lisa) Williams of Terre Haute, IN; great-grandchildren, Cayla, Candace, Cameron and Stan Czosnek, Samantha Godlewski, Emma and Hazel Williams, Hunter Williams; sisters, Margaret Aiello and Emma (Richard) Braun of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. John F. Zywicki

With his family by his side, John F. Zywicki, age 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at his residence. John was born in Mosinee on July 7, 1930, son of the late Frank and Marie (nee: Krazanowski) Zywicki and grew up with his family as members of St. Paul’s Catholic Church..

John was a graduate of Mosinee High school “Class of 1949,” where he excelled at sports, especially baseball. He was in the Chicago White Sox baseball farm system before enlisting in the US Air Force where he proudly served overseas as crew chief during the Korean Conflict. On September 17, 1955, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Schofield, WI, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Joanne M. Schultz, and have since had fifty-five great years together. John was employed with the Rothchild Paper Mill for twelve years before moving to Racine in 1967 to join the JI Case Co. He was employed with JI Case as industrial supervisor for twenty-one years until his retirement in 1988. A sports enthusiast and great athlete, John played baseball well into his fifties. He also enjoyed his large collection of all types of music, carpentry, auto mechanics, fishing, the outdoors and his rose garden. More than anything, John will be best remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife, Joanne; his five children, Kathy Gedemer of Racine, Jodie (Ken) Kosciolek of Burnsville, MN, Vicki Zywicki, Jeanne (Chet) Williams, John (Eleanor) Zywicki, all of Racine; eight grandchildren, Scott and Brian Gedemer, Austin and Kyle Casey, Anna and Kayla Jandl, Sonny Mazurek, and Gunner Williams; sisters, Agnes Kukuzka, Josephine (Ted) Cynkar, Cecelia Dunaj; brother, George (Carolee) Zywicki; thirty-six nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by his grandson, Jesse Dean Mazurek.

Lois R. Engstrom

Ms. Lois R. Engstrom, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at her residence.

Lois was born in Racine on February 4, 1922, to the late John and Ruth (nee: Chambers) Hansen and had lived her entire life in Racine. On May 2, 1942, she was united in marriage to Earl N. Engstrom. He preceded her in death on February 29, 2008.

Lois was employed as a bookkeeper and receptionist for Dr. R.L. Gorsky and Dr. R. Connell until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Calvary Memorial Church and The Racine Christian Women’s Club, in which she was twice elected chairman and prayer advisor. She also served as a food bank volunteer at area churches.

Lois is survived by her children, Thomas (Claudia) Engstrom, Nancy Engstrom; son-in-law, Mark Schultz; grandchildren, Jennifer (Tony) Gutierrez, Jodie Rodriguez, Erica (Trevor) Engstrom, Kelcy Engstrom, and Troy (Tanya) Engstrom; great-grandchildren, Noah Martin, Tashca and Antonio Rodriguez, Jacob and Griffin Guitierrez; brother, Mel Hansen; sisters, Alice Hansen and Shirley James; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Schultz; brother, Don Hansen; sisters, Juanita Hansen, Kay Hansen, and Arlene (John) Overman.

Ruth J. (Mansell) Botting

Ruth J. Botting, age 82, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Ruth was born in Racine, July 30, 1928, daughter of the late Thomas and Alice (Nee: Sietz) Mansell.

Ruth attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from William Horlick High School “Class of 1946.” On November 12, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Botting who preceded her in death, February 13, 1995. Ruth enjoyed bowling and playing cards. Above all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Arthur J. Hamata

Arthur John Hamata, age 89 passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010, after a short illness. He was born in Racine, May 7, 1921, son of the late Joseph and Estelle (Nee: Kennedy) Hamata.

Arthur served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII from 1942 until 1944 stationed in the China Burma India Theatre of War. He received his training at the first radar training school in Boca Raton. He served on a B-29 Superfortress as a radar operator in India until injured on duty. Arthur received various medals and accomplishments including Expert Marksman while serving his country.

On September 6, 1952, he was united in marriage to “the love of his life” Jean E. Morgenson at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. Arthur was employed at First National Bank for over 25 years retiring in 1984 as vice president. He previously was a controller for Catholic Family Insurance. Arthur was an active and dedicated member of St. John Nepomuk Church, a member of the American Legion and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Throughout his life, Arthur enjoyed his trips with his family to their cabin in Canada. He also enjoyed spending winters in Florida. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Jean; a sister, Margaret Groulik of Racine; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas M. Morgenson of Titusville, FL, Marvin (Joan) Morgenson of Racine; nieces and nephews, Marian (Fred) Krumberger, Jean (Patrick) Hays, John (Debbie) Groulik, Ann (Dave) Rost, Sharon (Dave) Nehring, Susan (Stan) Jardee, Thomas Morgenson, Steve Morgenson, Sandra (Robert) Ager, Jill (John R.) A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 11, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. John Nepomuk Church, 1903 Green St. Interment with full military honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet Friday at the funeral home from 4-6 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Disabled American Veterans have been suggested.

Ronald S. Zalokar

Dr. Ronald S. Zalokar, 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 4, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged in Kenosha.

Ronald was born on May 25, 1932, in Oak Lawn, IL, to the late Frank and Lillian (nee: Vejrostik) Zalokar. On June 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to Diane (nee: Peyret) Zalokar. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2010.

Ronald received a B.A. in Physical Education from Monmouth College in 1954 and Master’s degrees in Biology and Physical Education from Western Illinois and Southern Illinois Universities and a Doctorate in Education from Marquette University. He was employed as a professor at Carthage College for over 36 years and moved to Racine in 1962 when the campus moved from Carthage, IL, to Kenosha, WI. At Carthage, Ron was a defensive coordinator in football for 18 years. In 1969, his squad led the nation, at all levels, in the fewest points allowed per game. And, in 1999, he was inducted into the NCAA Division III Wrestling Coach’s Hall of Fame.

Ron is survived by a son, Gary (Michele) Zalokar; and two daughters, Gail (Doug) Bauman, and Gwyn Zalokar; seven grandchildren, Colin Zalokar, Jake Zalokar, Sara Bauman, Sean Bauman, Greg Bauman, Griffin Bauman and Riley Bauman. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Glen Zalokar.

Funeral services in memory of Ronald will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 10, 2010, at 7 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will be held on Monday, September 13, at West Lawn Memorial Park at 2 p.m.

Memorial’s in Ronald’s honor may be made to the “Zalokar Endowment Fund” at Carthage College Development Office (2001 Alford Park Drive, Kenosha, WI 53140) or to “First Presbyterian Church Building Fund” (716 College Avenue, Racine, WI 53403).

Jesus Ruiz

Jesus Ruiz, age 40, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday September 1, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1100 Erie St., on Friday September 3, 2010, at noon, with Rev. Esteban Redolad officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.
