Lynn (Gorsky) Peterson

Lynn Peterson was born to Reuben A. Gorsky and Toby (nee Sunshine) Gorsky on January 28, 1949. Her soul transitioned from this life on Tuesday, August 26, 2008.

Lynn lived a life rich in passions, accomplishment and friendships. As a child, she was very close to her Grandmother Elena. Her daughter, Elena Anne Swiden, was named for her great-grandmother. Elena and her fiancĂ©, Kevin G. Rude, survive Lynn, as do Lynn’s stepson, Christian T. Peterson, her Little Sister Alexis, and her companion dogs Maggie and Phoebe.

Married to Marc T. Peterson, a musician, sculptor and mentor of younger artists whose career with Johnson Wax spanned twenty-five years, Lynn shared his connection with stone and promoted his work. Lynn and Marc enjoyed traveling, and Lynn practiced her photographic artistry during many trips to the southwestern United States. Marc and Lynn were deeply connected to nature.

Her core values and wide interests led Lynn to develop her Reiki healing practice, and to her becoming a Dharma teacher who practiced and taught Meditation. Lynn's lifelong interest in the arts found expression through her photographs, collections, creative work, and her sixteen years as a board member of Spectrum School of the Arts. Lynn established a memorial scholarship in Marc's name which allows economically challenged children and adults to study at Spectrum.

All who knew Lynn were richer for her friendship. Lynn’s generosity of spirit -- and her beloved father’s example -- endowed her with a passionate sense of social justice. She was fair and just, honest, and a person of integrity. Lynn treated everyone with kindness.

Her busy career at Western Publishing Company did not prevent her from pursuing her dream: a B.A. in Communications granted by Alverno College. Upon completion of her goal, she joined Golden Entertainment, eventually becoming Editor and Manager of Book and Tape development.

Later, Lynn worked for the City of Racine. Her love for all children continued to inform her life. She worked as an Elementary Reading Teacher at Racine Montessori within the last few years, and was a dedicated Big Sister. Lynn fostered many children through Save the Children and The Christian Children’s Fund.

A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 29, 2008, at 6 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Tony Larsen of the Olympia Brown Unitarian Universalist Church officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 5 p.m. until time of service. Those who wish may contribute memorials for Lynn to The American Cancer Society Research Fund, or to the Make A Wish Foundation

Lynn's daughter Elena wishes to thank the nursing and hospice staff of Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital for their extraordinary and loving care. Lynn's many friends dedicated themselves to providing Lynn with support, flowers, and love during her transition, and for them, Elena is deeply grateful.

In addition to her parents and husband, Cathy was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Norbert B. “Norby” Klinkhammer.
