Alice (Hutchens) Hansen

Mrs. Alice (nee: Hutchens) Hansen, 92, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010, at W.F.H.-All Saints Hospice.

Alice was born on September 11, 1917, to the late Elmer and Selma (nee: Lundberg) Hutchens in Athelstane and lived in Racine since 1946. She was united in marriage to Richard E. Hansen on June 19, 1941, in Honolulu, HI.

Mrs. Hansen graduated from Wausaukee High School in 1934 and Marinette County Normal School in 1935. Commencing in fall 1936, she taught at five different county schools in Marinette County. Alice enjoyed writing, corresponding and genealogy. She served as an organist at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Northside Calvary Memorial Church and Calvary Memorial Church, early service.

Alice is survived by her loving husband, Richard E. Hansen; son, Randol Hansen; three daughters, Anita (Ted) Comfort, Elaine Hansen and Carolyn (Ross Arnold) Hansen; four grandchildren, Rick (TracyAnn) Hansen, Karin (Michael) Harman, Rebecca (Chad) Bederka and Paul (Signe) Comfort; and nine great-grandchildren, Troy, James, Joshua, Corey, Anna, Peter, Gabby, Pierce and Dean. She is preceded in death by her three brothers, Roy, Lyle and Stanley Hutchens; a sister, Doris Kelsey; daughter-in-law, Sharon (Johnson) Hansen; and one son-in-law, Ronnie Douglas.

Funeral Services for Alice will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday May 6, 2010, at the funeral home with Rev. Nathan Joy James officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday May 5, 2010, from 4:30-7 p.m. and Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Private interment will be held at Graceland Cemetery.

James Martin Hanley

James M. Hanley, 55, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010, at WFH-All Saints after a long battle with cancer.

James was born in Racine to the late John Howard and Marian (nee: Andersen) Hanley on February 8, 1955. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann (nee: Cole) on July 3, 1982, in Tampa, FL. He enjoyed woodworking, and eBay. But most of all, he loved his family.  

James will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary Ann; daughters, Erica (Bryant) Willing and Courtney (Randy) Tharp; two grandchildren, Bryan and Hailey Tharp; a brother, Robert (Joan) Hanley; and one sister, Patricia Klim. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Marty Kilm.  

A private memorial celebration will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wheaton Franciscan Cancer Center.

Marilou (Holub) Wolfman

Marilou Wolfman, age 62, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday April 28, 2010, at Froedtert Memorial Hospital due to a brain aneurysm.  Marilou was born in Racine February 3, 1948, daughter of the late Joseph and Lucille (nee: Olzewski) Holub.

Marilou graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1966.”  On May 4, 1968, at St. Lucy’s Church, Marilou was united in marriage to Alan D. Wolfman.  Marilou was a dedicated and caring nurse for the past twenty years at the Becker-Shoop Center.  She will be best remembered as a loving wife and mother, and a dear friend to all. Marilou will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of forty-two years, Alan of Kenosha; her children, Zach Wolfman of Racine, Abbey Wolfman of DeKalb, IL; sisters, Marilyn (William) Staebler of Stevens Point, Mary Jo Haluska of Racine; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gail Larson of Las Vegas, Linda (Dennis) Worm of South Milwaukee, Mark (Teri) Wolfman of Oregon, WI; nieces and nephews; Dee Dee Kovara, a special friend of fifty years.

Willadean (Clark) Ayers

Willadean Ayers, “Billie,” age 100, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center.  She was born in Scranton, IA, May 15, 1909, daughter of Lee and Dora Clark. 

On February 14, 1924, in Dubuque, IA she was united in marriage to Joseph S. Ayers. Together they had seven children and moved to Racine in 1941.  Joe passed away in 1953.  Billie retired from Racine Hydraulics.  She enjoyed crocheting and was an excellent cook and baker.  She will be remembered for her fudge.  Above all she was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.  She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her children, Betty Goebel, Rose (Robert) Reilly, JoAnn Quinn, and John Ayers; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Ayers; over 80 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gerald; two daughters, Mary DuMont and Pat Boehme; four grandsons, Steve Quinn, Pat Goebel, Mike DuMont and Robert DuMont; a sister, Delores Reil; and a brother, Harry Clark.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Monday, May 3, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Mark Jones officiating.  Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.  Relatives and friends may meet Monday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Lawrence R. Andersen

Lawrence (Larry) Ralph Andersen, 67, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center surrounded by his family. Larry was born, the first of identical twins, on February 16, 1943, to the late Lorraine (Nash) and late Russell Andersen.

After graduating from Horlick High School in 1961, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served until 1965. An excellent golfer, Larry loved to spend time on the golf course hitting balls and sinking putts. Larry was an excellent handyman. It was common to find him tinkering around in the garage, building or fixing something. There was nothing that Larry could not fix or build.

November was a special time for Larry, as he anticipated the deer hunting season all year and couldn‘t wait to bring home his prize buck. Larry was a very caring and compassionate man who loved his family,  enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, his sister and brother. Sundays during the Fall you would find Larry watching his beloved Green Bay Packers, a love he passed on to his children. Always the jokester, he went out of his way to make everyone happy and laugh.

He is survived by his children, Amy (Michael) Garbo of Racine, Marco Andersen of Racine; grandchildren, Madelyn and Alexander Garbo of Racine; his sister, Lori Bush of Racine; twin brother. Leonard (Lonny) Andersen of Modesto, CA; and brother, Kurt Andersen of Racine. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and a niece.

A Memorial Service celebrating Larry’s life will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Terry McGugan officiating. Private interment with full military honors will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. Memorials to The Michael J. Walter A. Finley Sr.

COLUMBIA, S.C. Walter A. Finley Sr. 80, formerly of Racine, passed away in Columbia, SC, on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Walter was born in Woodstock, Illinois on July 23, 1929, the son of Chester and Frances (nee: Eley) Finley.

He was employed as a farmer for H&R Horner and Son retiring after many years. Walter was an avid Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan, along with finding great enjoyment in bowling, horseshoes and travel, but most of all spending time with his family.

Walter is survived by his children, Michael (Kim) Finley of Columbia, SC, Patrick (Wanda) Finley of Albermarle, NC, Walter “Butch” (Dee) Finley Jr., Sandra (Jeff) Meier, Tammy (Andrew Sanchez) Finley, Tim Finley and daughter-in-law, Cyndi   Knapp Finley, all of Racine; grandchildren, Jamie Burris, Paul (Amber) Segura Jr., Amy (Lance) Schmidt, Dustin Finley, Aaron Knapp, Stephanie (Sicarra Farris) Meier, Daniel Finley, Nick  Knapp, Nicole Meier, Austin Finley, Scott Finley, Cassandra McNeal; great-grandchildren, Kyra, Ariana , Trevion, Leah , Isaac, Sierrah, Lance Jr.; sisters, Ruth Jones of  Merced, CA, and Sandy (Richard) Dederich of  Twin Lakes,WI; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Fred (Marilyn) Ellis; and dear friends, Jean Gustin and Andy and Lois Simmonds. Virginia L. Peterson

Virginia L. “Ginny” (nee: Scheiden) Peterson, 85, passed away on Monday April 26, 2010, at Hospice Alliance. Ginny was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 8, 1924, the daughter of Nicholas and Marie (nee: Zigrand) Scheiden.

“City girl from Chicago meets farm boy from Racine.” Ginny was united in marriage to LeRoy Peterson on November 20, 1943, in Racine. She was a riveter for Douglas Aircraft during World War II.  Ginny was most proud of being a homemaker, wife and mother. She loved their vacation home in Wautoma, enjoyed traveling to Florida and especially to Arizona where they had their winter home, which they enjoyed for 10 years.

Ginny enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and was an avid Green  Bay Packer fan. Ginny loved her “Get Togethers” at the “Lodge,” sitting in the sun by the pond, watching her great-grandkids playing and swimming.  Her pretty white hair, bright blue eyes and big smile will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Ginny is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, LeRoy; and their children, Sharon and her husband, Gene Stollenwerk, Dennis and his wife Susan Peterson, Gary and his wife Lynn Peterson and Wayne and his wife, Carrie Peterson: grandchildren, Jeff and his wife, Laura Stollenwerk, Greg and his wife, Megan Stollenwerk, Christopher Peterson, Pamela Peterson and Mandy Peterson; great-grandkids, Chase Stollenwerk, Jillian Stollenwerk, Jackson Stollenwerk and baby boy on the way in July.

She is further survived by her beloved pets, Teddy, Kiki and Kissy.  Also by other relatives and many wonderful friends including Lettie, Cliff, Kathy, Richard and other friends from McDonalds and Burger King.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; great-grandson, Jonathan Stollenwerk in June of 2007; and eight sisters and brothers.

Memorial services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday April 30, 2010, at 7 p.m.  In a private ceremony Ginny will be laid to rest at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday evening before services from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Robert J Fergus

Robert James Fergus, age 73, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his wife and kids.

Bob was born on July 23, 1936, in Racine to the late David and Lucille (Nee: Braund) Fergus.  Bob married the love of his life, Bunny, after meeting her in college at Whitewater.  They had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with the entire family in northern Wisconsin.   They have four children, RJ, Gary, Gregg and Renee.

Bob loved spending time with his family and could often be seen at his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, typically filming them with his original 8mm movie camera, and in later years with his digital camera.   His passion was golfing and traveling with Bunny and their close friends.  Bob loved going to the Villages in Florida to escape the winters in Racine, and was known as the scorekeeper for his Wednesday morning golf group.  Bob’s other passion was fishing and he and son, Gary, spent most mornings perch fishing on Lake Michigan.

Bob started in real estate over 40 years ago when Babe Peterson gave him his start and they became lifelong friends.  He retired from First Weber in January 2010. Bob was a veteran and served his country proudly in the US Air Force.

Bob was able to make everyone around him feel comfortable and loved.  Even during his three-month battle with cancer, he was so grateful to the doctors and nurses that he made them feel special and appreciated.  He will be remembered as a true gentleman and friend.  He will be missed by many in the Racine area.

Survivors include his wife, Bunny; his son, RJ and fiancée Jennifer Houtz, his grandsons, Wes and Mitch; son, Gary Fergus and his wife Peggy and grandchildren Carl, Craig, Joe, Caleb and great-grandchild, CJ; son, Gregg and his wife Bev and grandchildren Jake, Max and Annie; daughter Renee and her husband Glenn Hansen and grandchildren Blake and Bradley.

Bob is further survived by his three sisters, Carol Quella, Bonnie Marsh and Susan Conway of Racine.  In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Fergus.

A Memorial Service, to celebrate Bob’s life, will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 30, at 1 p.m., with Pastor James Barsch officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family prior to the service from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Hitters Baseball Club, 4726 6 Mile Road, Racine, WI 53402 have been suggested.

Robert C. Cook

Robert C. Cook, “Bob,” age 51, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center of an apparent heart attack.  Bob was born in Racine September 16, 1958, son of David P. and Eileen (Nee:  Noeske) Cook.

Bob graduated from William Horlick High School “Class of 1976.”    He enjoyed cars, restoring cars, going to car shows and showing his 1978 Camaro.  He also belonged to the Racine Remote Control Car Club.  Bob was currently employed by Coleman Tool Co.  He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Cook, attending UW-Platteville; his mother, Eileen Cook of Racine; brother, David (Sue) Cook of Racine; special friend, Debbie Schulien; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, David P. Cook.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010,  at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Diane Tetrault officiating.  Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Charles W. Tucker

Charles W. “Chuck” Tucker, 84, passed away at Becker Shoop Center on Sunday April 25, 2010. Chuck was born on April 23, 1927, the son of William and Ethel (nee: Strange) Tucker in Tipler, Wisconsin.

He was united in marriage to Florence E. Thompson in Dubuque, Iowa, on September 4, 1947. Chuck proudly served in the United States Army in the 778th Tank Battalion during World War II. He was employed at Walker Drop Forge as a welder, retiring after 37 years of service.

Chuck was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars #1391, and American Legion Post #494.  He found great pride in collecting and restoring vintage cars. In his earlier years Chuck found great enjoyment in fishing, especially at Perch Lake, and working in his vegetable garden.

Chuck is survived by one son, Kenneth (Cheryl) Tucker; one daughter, Pearl Kennedy, all of Racine; four grandchildren, Jamielee W. Kennedy, Donna (Glenn) Kennedy-Ostrowski, Raymond (Heidi) Shockley, Kenneth Tucker Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Chase, Raymond II, Isabel and Jen. He is further survived by two sisters, Willma Miner and Georgia Pollock. Chuck is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

He was preceded by his wife, Florence on April 14, 2006; and two sisters, Thelma Heikkila and Katie Shell.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, April 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. Chuck will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the VFW, 820 Main Street Racine, WI  53403.

Alexander 'Alex' Wagner

Alexander Wagner, 90, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints on Saturday, April 24, 2010.

Alexander Wagner was born in Racine to the late Martin and Mary (nee: Ruppel) Wagner on November 15, 1919. He lived in Racine all his life. He was united in marriage to Lorraine E. Volz on September 28, 1946.

Mr. Wagner was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He served in the United States Air Force in England during World War II. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge where he and his wife would square dance. Mr. Wagner was employed by Western Publishing Company and retired in the mid-1980s. He enjoyed bowling and traveling, but most importantly he was a family man who loved his family.

Alex will be dearly missed by his wife of 64 years, Lorraine; one brother, Adolph (Jeanne) Wagner; three brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law, Arnold (Doris) Volz, Robert (Darlene) Volz, Virginia Bittorf, Herman Kugel and Francis Volz; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother, George Wagner; one sister, Mary Kammerzelt; two sisters-in-law, Frieda Kugel and Ruth Holtz; and two brothers-in-law, Norman Volz and William Bittorf.

Julia (Rodriguez) Barton

Julia Barton, age 78, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center.  Julia was born in Frio County, TX, June 9, 1931, daughter of the late Honorato and Juanita (Nee:  Davila) Rodriguez.

On May 5, 1974 she was united in marriage to Leonard Barton, who preceded her in death on October 10, 1987.  She was a member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church.  Julia devoted her life to her family and will be sadly missed. 

Survivors include her children, Joe (Gloria) Rodriguez, Frank Rodriguez, Roy Rodriguez, Jose (Dawn) Bustamante, Rodrigo Bustamante, Gilbert Bustamante, Gustavo (Michelle) Espino, Albert (Stephanie) Chavez, Leonard Barton, Dennis Barton, Sue (Albert) Gonzales, Maria  Jimenez, Linda (Johnny) Barron, Christy (Juan) Jaramillo, Annaberta (Rob) Diaz, Florentina (Michael) Sadlon, Julia (Darrell) Barton;  33 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Isaac Rodriguez, Colecta Mireles, Cleotilde Padilla, Roberto Rodriguez and Beatriz Espinosa;   nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Rodriguez; sisters, Florentina Bustamante, Lucy Chapa and Estela Rodriguez; and her brother, Honorato Rodriguez Jr.

Mary L. (Presta) Griffith

Mary L. Griffith, age 73, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Becker- Shoop Center. Mary was born in Racine, April 25, 1936, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Nee: Rago) Presta. She was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1954.”

On November 7, 1959, she was united in marriage to Craig L. Griffith. Mary was employed by St. Luke’s Hospital for ten years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church and former member of the Altar Society. Mary was a wonderful homemaker and wife and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Craig; her three children, Thomas Griffith of Madison, Gerald (Teresa) Griffith of Lancaster, OH, Louis Griffith of Racine; eight grandchildren; brother, Eugene Presta of Racine; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nanjean (Harold) Beck of Ashville, NC, Doris Mae Zimmerman of Racine, Suzette (Daniel) Cabush of Racine, Marilyn Griffith of TN, Jackie Presta of Ann Arbor, MI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ruth W. (Krause) Sawatzki

Ruth W. Sawatzki, age 83, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Wheaton-Franciscan Healthcare.  Ruth was born in Schlesien, Germany, June 20, 1926, daughter of the late Martin and Marta (Nee:  Schlottig) Krause.  

She was united in marriage to Bruno Sawatzki who preceded her in death, August 31, 1998.  Ruth was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  Ruth will be forever remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She will be dearly missed.

Mary M. Kish

STEVENS POINT -- Mary M. Kish, 89, passed away at her daughter's home in the Town of Bevent, Marathon County, on Thursday, April 22, 2010. Mary was born on June 26, 1920, in Ellwood City, PA, to the late Christopher and Jessie Haswell.  She spent part of her youth in Pennsylvania and later moved to Clinton, Iowa, with her family.  As a young woman she moved to Racine, where she met and married Joseph Kish on September 27, 1936.  Joseph preceded her in death October 3, 1999.

Mary worked for Walker Mfg. during WWII and then Western Publishing.  Following retirement she worked in catering at Wingspread.  She was a former member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband and family.

Survivors include three children, Rose Rasmussen of Rosholt, Joseph (Susan Marie) Kish of Racine and Curtis (Judy) Kish of Sturtevant.  She is further survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, nine sisters and son-in-law, Keith Rasmussen.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at 11 a.m.  Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.  A visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service .

James 'Jim' S. Kaplan

James S. Kaplan, age 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 22, 2010.  Jim was born in Racine, June 16, 1933, son of the late John and Gertrude (Nee:  Schliesmann) Kaplan.

Jim was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1952.”  On August 17, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Hull.  He was employed for twenty-five years at Racine Steel Castings.  He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church as well as a dedicated volunteer for the Miss Racine Scholarship Program for many years.  He truly enjoyed working with local businesses and organizations to raise scholarship money to help local women earn their college degrees. An avid gardener, Jim enjoyed beautifying his yard.  More than anything, time spent with family was cherished.  He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Ann; his two children, Stephen (Karen) Kaplan of Cedarburg, WI, Therese (Mark) Van Ryne of Barrington, IL; his three grandchildren, Alexis, Jared and MacKenzie; sister, Marion George; brother, George (Beverly) Kaplan; twin brother, John Kaplan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John George; and sister-in-law, Charlene Kaplan.

Holly M. (Handrich) Verdiguel

Following a courageous battle with cancer, Holly M. Verdiguel, age 25, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  Holly was born in Milwaukee, WI, on March 5, 1985, daughter of Michael W. and Karen Anne (Nee:  Baars) Handrich. 

Holly was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 2003."  Furthering her education she obtained a degree in Clinical Lab Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  She was a Radiologic Technologist at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Milwaukee.  On May 28, 2009, in Riviera Maya, Mexico, attended by family and friends she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Marco A. Verdiguel.  Always with a flair for fashion Holly enjoyed shopping.  In her spare time she also enjoyed movies, working out, and was an excellent cook.   More than anything she treasured time spent with her family and friends.  She will be deeply missed. 

Survivors include her loving husband, Marco; the joy of her life her daughter, Leila Lyn; her parents, Michael W. and Karen A. Handrich; her sister, Jessica; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Daniel and Lauri Ramczyk;  her grandparents, Bonnie and Del Handrich, Marie Baars; other relatives and many dear friends.  She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ted Baars.

Margaret J. (Caynak) Secanky

Margaret J. Secanky, age 92, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center.  Margaret was born in Racine, February 18, 1918, daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Nee:  Dugas) Caynak. 

Margaret was a graduate of Washington Park High School.  On May 25, 1939, at Holy Name Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Albin J. Secanky who preceded her in death, June 30, 1998.  She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.  Margaret was a waitress at Ed Aiello’s Hub for many years.  She was an excellent Slovak cook and also enjoyed gardening and traveling.  Above all she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Donna (Arthur) Hageman; her three grandchildren, Suzanne Hageman, Sonja (Don) Fornal, Sara (Brian) Pollmann; eight great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Florence (Frank) Bogyos, John (Majole) Caynak, George Caynak, Susie Halkowitz; other relatives and many dear friends.

Ralph Ferraro

With his loving family by his side, Ralph N. Ferraro, age 78, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at his residence.  Ralph was born in Racine, December 2, 1931, son of the late Joseph E. and Carmela (Nee:  Schifano) Ferraro.

Ralph was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1950.”  A superb athlete, he received a total of nine varsity letters in basketball, football and golf.  He was a member of the Wisconsin State Champion Golf Team.  Following graduation he proudly served in the United States Navy.

On April 24, 1954, in Dyersburg, TN, he was united in marriage to Helen F. Ladd.  Working diligently to put himself through college he was employed as a police officer for three years.  Furthering his education he obtained his Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  In 1990 Ralph retired from the Racine Unified School District after twenty-six years of service.  He was a teacher and sub-school Principal at William Horlick High School. Following retirement he and his wife moved to Arizona until 2003 when they returned to Racine.

Ralph was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, a member of Roma Lodge, and was an active member of the Lions Club where he served a term as President.  He will be remembered fondly for his outstanding cooking, mastery of the grill, love for golf and sports, especially the Packers and his passion for traveling.   Above all he will be best remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife, Helen;  his children, Rose (Terry) Meyers of Racine, Barbara (Jim) Edwards of Round Rock, TX, Michael Ferraro of Phoenix, AZ; his six grandchildren, Nick, Katie, and Andrew Meyers, David, Matthew, and Benjamin Edwards; brothers, Louis (Patricia) Ferraro, Tony(Jeanne) Ferraro, all of Racine; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles Ladd, Betty Culver, Joann Ladd, all of Newbern, TN, Louise (Charles) Miller of Union City, TN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.   In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank (Mary) Ferraro.

Melissa L. (Haas) Huck

Melissa L. Huck, age 48, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at her residence.  Melissa was born in Rockford, IL, February 9, 1962, daughter of Jerome  H. and Mary L. (Nee:  Austin) Haas.

On May 19, 1984, at Trinity United Methodist Church she was united in marriage to Daniel K. Huck.  Melissa was a lifelong and active member in the church choir and Trinity Emmaus Group at Trinity United Methodist Church.  She was a Kindermusik teacher in Racine for several years.  She loved singing, especially with her daughters, and sang for numerous weddings with June McGill.  Melissa also enjoyed pyrography (the art of wood burning), the outdoors, and camping.  More than anything she treasured time with her family.  She will be deeply missed.

Lyle Peterson

Lyle Peterson, age 91, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.  Lyle was born in Racine, August 13, 1918, son of the late Albert and Florence T. (Nee:  Bronson) Peterson and was a lifelong resident.

On May 18, 1940, Lyle was united in marriage to Leone E. Hoffman who preceded him in death, July 24, 1998.   During World War II he proudly served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific.  Lyle was a partner who owned and operated Imperial Tool for many years, retiring from Victory Tool in 1998.  Lyle coached Little League in Franksville for a number of years and served as president of Racine County Little League.  He was also a member of the American Legion.  In his younger years Lyle was a Golden Glove boxer.   Lyle was an avid Wisconsin sports fan of the Packers, Brewers, and Braves and also enjoyed gardening.  Above all he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.  

Survivors include his seven children, Nancy Hoppe, Pat Miller, of Racine, Peter (Betty) Peterson of Burlington, Jill (Autrey) Barker of Ft. Smith, AR, James (Sheri) Peterson of Saukville,  Jacqueline Mrkvicka of Minneapolis, MN, Kathy Peterson and Craig Gummow of Racine; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sisters and brothers, Shirley (William) Dougard of Estero, FL,  Ronald Peterson of Racine; sisters-in-law, Violet (Harry) Halbach of Waterford, Beverly Lawrence of Racine; very dear friend, Evelyn “Joanie” Drinkwine of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his sons-in-law, Ray Hoppe and Autry Barker.

Carolyn R. (Meinholz) Mycon

Carolyn R. Mycon, age 64, passed away Monday April 19, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center.  Carolyn was born in Milwaukee September 24, 1945, daughter of the late Arthur and Helen Meinholz. 

Carolyn went through the Milwaukee School System and graduated from high school in 1963.  In 1964, she was married to Richard A. Mycon who preceded her in death in 1986. Carolyn was employed with DW Davies for many years before her retirement in 1982. She enjoyed bowling, knitting and testing her luck at Potowatomi.  She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her love of twenty three years, Dennis J. Collins of Sturtevant; her siblings, Dorothy A. Collins, David (Jackie) Meinholz, Lydia (Jim) Goff, Mary (Mike) Jackson, Paul Meinholz, Tommy Meinholz;  her adopted children, Denny (Ann) Collins, Brenda (Karl) Mueller, Karen (John) Pabst, Kimberly Kinney; seven grandchildren;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  In addition to her parents and her husband, Richard, Carolyn was also preceded in death by her brother, Jack Meinholz.

Steve Holly

Steve Holly, 95, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center.  He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on June 21, 1914, the son of  Stephen and Zuzanna (nee: Trokan) Holly.

Steve was a 1932 graduate of Washington Park High School.  On June 6, 1959, Steve was united in marriage to Laverne Madsen.  He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring on July 30, 1976, after 40 years of service.  Steve was a member of Pentecost Lutheran Church.  He also was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.  Steve loved playing golf and was a master woodworker.

Surviving are three sons, Steven (Pat) Holly of Racine, James (Pat) Holly of Springville, CA, and stepson, Robert (Robin) Burns of Carbondale, CO; grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Steven, Trevor, Allison and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Elizabeth, Reagan, Evan, Claire, Holly, Madelyn and Russell; nephews, Steve, Tim, Claudette; niece, Patricia and favorite cousin, Christy Fugina.  He is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne, on June 18, 1999; three sisters, Kristina, Suzanna and Anna; and one brother, Martin.

Funeral services will be held at Pentecost Lutheran Church, 2213 Coolidge Ave., on Monday, April 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Luke Jacob and Rev. Milan Babel officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.  There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. and at the church on Monday before services from 10 a.m. until service time.

Harry Roscoe Wilson

Harry Roscoe Wilson, age 89, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010, at his residence.  Harry was born September 22, 1920, in Libertyville, IL, to Frank and Jennett (Nee: Roscoe) Wilson.

On November 10, 1956, he was united in marriage to Phyllis L. Lueck.   During World War II Harry proudly served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific.  He was employed by International Harvester as a Mechanical Engineer and concluded his career in Japan as Liaison Engineer for IH and Komatsu International Kimco before retiring to South Carolina.

Active in his churches, he served as Treasurer of Faith Community Church (UCC) in Libertyville, West Tokyo Union church in Mitaka, Japan and Pickens Presbyterian Church in Pickens, SC.  He was an ordained Elder and Deacon of the Presbyterian Church and was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Racine.

Harry was a lifetime member of Optimists International and belonged to the Racine Tuesday Optimist Club.  He enjoyed travel and Elderhosteling after retirement.  Golf and silver-smithing were his major hobbies.  A passion was his genealogical research and tracing his roots to the Mayflower and Thirteenth Century England.  Harry loved time spent with his family.  He left us too soon and will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; his children, Brian Wilson of Wildwood, IL, Brooke Wilson of Racine and Bret Wilson of Antioch, IL; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin-brother, Robert F. Wilson; by his son, Robert H. Wilson and by his twin-daughters, Louise Carpenter and Virginia Palmgren.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 40 Ohio St.,  with Rev. Melanie Hammond Clark and Rev. Victoria Millar officiating.  Interment will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Saturday at the church from 1 p.m. until time of service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Covenant Presbyterian Church have been suggested.

Dianne M. Henken

Dianne Marie Henken, age 64, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010, at her residence. She was born in Racine, February 15, 1946, daughter of the late Gilbert and Rosemary (Nee: Olsen) Henken.

Dianne graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing, obtained a B.S. in Nursing for Milton College and a Master's degree in education from Carthage College.  She was employed by St. Mary’s Medical Center for 32 years as a cardiac nurse and education coordinator.  She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. 

Surviving are her sisters, MaryAnn Fucilla-Waisman and Dr. Milton Freedman, Gloria and Tom Tyson; three nieces, Renee Fucilla (Dejan) Ristic, Erin Tyson (Carl) Laehr, Rebecca R. Tyson; a great-niece Stella Ristic; cousins, Sallie (Terry) Dubinsky, David (Judy) Heimes, Inger Ewings; other relatives and friends.

Lorane Beatrice Rongland

Baraboo – Mrs. Lorane B. Rongland, 98, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo.

Lorane was born January 26, 1912, in Jasper County, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Volney and Elizabeth (nee: Jungles) Peer. She grew up in the Hobart, Indiana, area. Lorane was united in marriage to Oscar I. Rongland on May 12, 1932.

Mrs. Rongland and her husband lived in Racine and she worked at Western Printing, retiring in 1972. They moved to Union Grove in 1961 and she was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church.

Lorane’s love of family was her number one priority. She was an inspiration and role model for her entire family. After retiring, she enjoyed taking her friends to appointments and shopping. She loved to travel and work in her flower garden. Lorane loved to bake for her family. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for her family as wedding and graduation gifts. She made over 30 afghans for her family; every stitch made with love.

Lorane is survived by three daughters, Nancy (Dean) Wahl of Rhinelander, Joan (David) Bendtsen of Lodi and Dorothy Frizgerald of Baraboo; eight grandchildren, Darlene, Linda, Shelli, Dan, Sandra, Bridgette, Briana and Joanna; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Marietta Schopf; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; two brothers, Dave and Michael; and three sisters, Josephine, Jean and Sis.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 3320 S. Colonial Ave. (Hwy. 45), Union Grove on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at 1 p.m. with Father Howard Haase officiating. June Hewlette

June Hewlette, age 81, went to her heavenly home Friday, April 16, 2010, at St. Camillus, Wauwatosa, WI.  June was born in Milwaukee, WI, June 29, 1928, daughter of the late Benjamin and Sophie (Nee:  Wieseke) Hewlette.

June was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church.  She was employed as Administrative Assistant at the church for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1990, and involved with the youth program, camps and conferences.  She was also a member of the YWCA and Lincoln Lutheran Auxiliary. 

Survivors include her nephew and nieces, Joan (Arthur) Zahn, Lea (Alex) Budzinski, Nancy (Bob) Leher, John (Carol) Hewlette, Marie Matulis; sister-in-law, Marietta Hewlette; great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, other relatives and many special dear friends.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her six brothers, Ralph (Hazel), Franklin (Florence), Donald (Laura), Gordon (Glenna), Floyd, Benjamin; her sister, Garland (Donald) Smith; and her dear cousins, Hazel and Joe Jovla.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 22, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 716 College Ave., with Rev. Steven Fringer officiating.  Private interment will be held at Valhalla Cemetery, Milwaukee, WI.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the church from noon  until time of service at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Presbyterian Church have been suggested.

Robert L. Meekma

Robert (Bob) L. Meekma, age 80, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.  Bob was born in Racine on July 2, 1929, son of the late John and Alta (Nee: Barrows) Meekma and was a longtime Racine resident until moving to Rhinelander in 1995. 
   

Bob proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On December 9, 1950, he was united in marriage to Sally M. Clausen who preceded him in death on January 16, 1994.  Bob cherished the 42 years he spent with Sally raising a family and enjoying their close group of friends. Bob spent his entire career as a journeyman carpenter before retiring from Bukachek Construction.  He always felt blessed to have earned a living doing what he loved. In his spare time Bob enjoyed golfing, fishing and gardening.  He had a special talent for growing roses.  Bob spent the past 16 years living on a lake in Rhinelander, in what he felt was God’s country.  Above all, Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family.  He will be deeply missed.

Angeline 'Angie' M. (Alaimo) Goebel

Angeline “Angie” M. Goebel, age 76, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center.  Angie was born in Milwaukee, November 29, 1933, daughter of the late John and Ella (Nee:  LaBelle) Alaimo and was raised in Racine.

Angie was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1952”. Furthering her education, she received a degree in Industrial Marketing at Gateway Technical College.  On August 8, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Angie was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Edward J. Goebel.  She was employed by Piggly Wiggly for twenty years, Host Company, and retired from Surgitek.  Angie served on the AFL-CIO Executive Council for a number of years.  She enjoyed flower arranging, yard sales, and was a huge Brett Favre fan.  Most of all she devoted and treasured time spent with her family.  She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Ed; her two daughters, Cheri (George) Yust III of Racine, Lori (John) Patrick of Palm Harbor, FL; her four grandchildren, George IV and Marie Yust, Natasha and Courtney Wick; sister, Antoinette “Toni” Green of Spring Hill, FL; brother, Joseph (Marianne) Alaimo of Spring Hill, FL; mother-in-law, Phyllis LaFleur of Racine; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Douglas (Patricia) Goebel of Racine; other relatives and many dear friends.

Gerald William Warner

Gerald William Warner, 89, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Wisconsin Veterans Home in Union Grove. Gerald was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on August 6, 1920, the son of William D. and Maud P. (nee: Miller) Warner.

He was a graduate of Washington Park High School. Gerald proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.  On July 8, 1944, Gerald was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Noe in the Parish House of St. Rose Church.  He was an engineer and had been employed with Mamco Corporation and Dremel Manufacturing. 

Gerald was a friend of True Life Church, a lifetime member of Boy Scout Troop 400 and a member of VFW Post 1391.

Gerald is survived by is his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; daughter, Jane M. (James) Aiello; son, John W. (Nancy) Warner all of Racine; seven grandchildren, Julie Boone (Gregory) of Racine, Jennifer (Scott) Melson of TN, Joseph (Blanca) Aiello of MN, Jonathan Aiello of Racine, Gina Garcia of FL, Carissa (Micah) Metzger and Jessica (Nicholas) Keene all of IN; four step-grandchildren, Kyle (Mandie) Andersen, Michael Andersen and Nathan (Melissa Bazan) Andersen all of Racine, and Nichole (Paul) Monskey of MN; six great-grandchildren; eight step- great-grandchildren; half-brother, Norman (Helen) Warner of Eagle River; sisters, Geraldine Kapluck of Racine, and Adeline Milne of IL.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his children, Susan Elizabeth and Scott David; his parents; brother, William; sister, Perditha Bartholomew; and brother-in-laws, Stanley and George.

Funeral services for Gerald will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday April 21, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeffrey Butler of True Life Church officiating. Mary J. (Acklam) Johnson

Mary J. Johnson, age 76, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010, in Sun City, AZ, after incurring a short bout with cancer. Mary was born in Racine, July 18, 1933, daughter of the late Roy and Florence (Nee: Westerfield) Acklam.

Mary was united in marriage to John E. Johnson, who preceded her in death December of 1982. In her earlier years Mary was employed by Oster Manufacturing and she retired from Dremel Manufacturing after many years of employment. Upon retirement she and her husband relocated to Sun City, Arizona, where they basked in the warmth and sunshine. Mary’s pastimes included golfing, country western dancing, and “garage sailing.” Above all, she was devoted to her family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her children, Paul “Dutch” Johnson of Sun City, AZ, Cindy Hughes of Kenosha, John Johnson of Racine; her grandchildren, Julie (Peter) Ortiz, Daniel (Samantha) Johnson, Debbie (Bobby) Christensen, Don Johnson; six great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Ferguson of Whitewater, WI; sister-in-law, Hilda Rognsvoog of Racine; dear longtime companion, Oscar “Oz” Bjorna of Sun City, AZ; “her little sister,” Betty Mozol of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Randall Lane Collova

Randall “Randy” Lane Collova, 56, passed on to be with his  Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at his residence. Randy was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on June 19, 1953, the son of Frank and Genevieve (nee: Wassermann) Collova.

Randy is survived by one brother, Don Collova; two sisters, Bonnie (Jon) Dederich and Deborah (Thomas) Hoagland, all of Racine; nieces, Cheryl (Mike) McCrary of Racine, Rhonda Dederich of Kenosha and Maranda LaCosse of Milwaukee; nephew, Mark (Gayle) Dederich of Racine.  He is further survived by great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday, April 19, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Ministers Mike and Cheryl McCrary officiating.

Randy will be laid to rest next to his loved ones at Graceland Cemetery.  There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Monday before services from 10 a.m. until service time.

Joan Leslie (LaFever) Evans

Ms. Joan L. Evans, 47, passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at her residence.

Joan was born in Racine to the late Dale and Audrey (nee: Anderson) LaFever on January 14, 1963, and lived her whole life in Racine. She was a devoted housewife and homemaker.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Sara Andrews; five grandchildren: Keller Jr., Jayden, Joshlynn, Joshua and Jersey; five brothers and four sisters: Dale Jr.(Linda) LaFever, Debbie (Jamie) Darracott, Carol (Roland) Morales, Margaret (Lewis) Marquez, Charles LaFever, Lori (Jens) Martinsen, David (Jennifer Leviseur) LaFever, James LaFever, and Kevin (Laurie) LaFever; many other relatives and friends. Joan was preceded in death by her son, Keller McQuay; mother, Audrey LaFever; brother, Joel LaFever; nephew, Brian LaFever; Grandparents, Alfred and Grace Anderson.

Karen Ann (Johnson) Nelson

With her family by her side, Karen Ann Nelson, age 51, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at her residence after a five-year battle with cancer.

Karen was born in Fullerton, CA, on May 6, 1958. She moved to Racine County in 1965. Karen was a 1976 graduate of Union Grove High School. She earned bachelor’s degrees from UW-Stevens Point and UW-Parkside. On August 7, 1982, she was united in marriage to David J. Nelson in Union Grove, WI. Together, Karen and David raised two children, Sarah and Peter.

Karen was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served as their Northside Preschool's treasurer for 12 years. Karen loved Girl Scouting and was co-leader of her daughter's Troop #301 for 11 years. After being a troop leader, Karen served on the board of directors for Girl Scouts of Racine County and was the last president before the council's regional merger.

Karen was a Realtor for Coldwell Banker for six years. She was also a longtime member of the Greater Racine Kennel Club and chair of their annual Pershing Park dog show for several years. Karen served as Racine County Supervisor for District 5 for three terms. While on the County Board, she chaired the Finance and Human Resources Committee and was a member of the Economic Development and Land Use Planning Committee. 

Above all, Karen treasured time spent with her family and many friends. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and working with her dogs. She never turned down an opportunity to have coffee and donuts with friends. Karen will forever be remembered as a vibrant, determined, and generous individual. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and community.   

Survivors include her husband, David; her children, Sarah E. Nelson (Christopher Wilson) of Madison, WI, and Peter J. Nelson of Racine; her mother, Ramona J. Johnson (nee: Wheaton) of Union Grove, WI; brother, John G. (Leanne) Johnson of McFarland, WI; sisters, Kristin S. (Todd) Armstrong of Somers, WI, and Kathy J. (Jeff) Burton of The Woodlands, TX; nephews Michael, David, Shane, Justin, John, and Colin; other relatives; and many dear friends.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, April 18, 2010, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and Monday at the church from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon.  A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3825 Erie St., on Monday at noon with Rev. Rosalind Dryver-Scott officiating. The Karen A. Nelson Memorial Scholarship Fund has been created through the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast. Memorials to the scholarship fund have been suggested.

J. Richard 'Dick' Krembs

J. Richard “Dick” Krembs, age 80, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2010. surrounded by his loving family.  Dick was born in St. Paul, MN, March 20, 1930, son of the late Maximillian and Rose T. (Nee:  Dziekan) Krembs, and was raised in Milwaukee.

Dick was a graduate of Marquette University High School “Class of 1948.” He served in the United States Army stationed in Germany as Military Police Honor Guard. On July 5, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mildred M. Waidelis. He was employed by Great Northern Corporation for many years, retiring in 1993.

Dick was an active and longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where he served as past President of the parish council.  He was passionate in his Eucharistic Ministry to shut-ins and nursing home residents.  Dick and his wife Mildred also used their gifts as Engaged Enrichment speakers and were involved with Marriage Encounters and Image.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, New Jersey.  Dick enjoyed jazz and big band music, and was an avid Packer fan and overall sports enthusiast.  He was an outgoing great conversationalist who enjoyed meeting people.  Above all he treasured time with his family and will be deeply missed.  

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Mildred; his six children, Mary Beth (David) Yoder of Columbus, OH, Susan Krembs of Waldorf, MD, Joseph A. Krembs, Philip M. (Jodi) Krembs, all of Racine, Nadine M. (Peter) Buchen of Woodbury, MN, Theodore V. (Eileen) Krembs of Sparks, NV; his ten grandchildren,  Matthew (Michelle) Yoder, Benjamin and Caitlyn Yoder, Michelle and Heather Kurpiecki, Erin and Max Krembs, James and Rachel Buchen, Theresa Rose Krembs; his two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Avery Yoder; sister, Rosemary (John) Faupl of Greenfield, WI; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Krembs of St. Paul, MN, Eleanor Colaianni of Little Rock, AR; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Eugene (Connie), and Karl Krembs.

Marvin Wynstra

Marvin Wynstra, 83, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints.  He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on November 28, 1926, the son of Alex and Henriette (nee: Hogeboom) Wynstra. 

Marvin was united in marriage to Shirley Johnson on March 19, 1948, at Grove Avenue Baptist Church.  He was employed at Johnson Park Golf Course for 26 years, 13 years as greenskeeper, then was custodian for Humble Park until his retirement. Marvin faithfully attended First Reformed Church and was a City of Racine 20-Year Club member.  He and Shirley enjoyed camping throughout the United States and wintered in Clermont, Florida, for more than 20 years.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley; and their children, Keith (Patricia) Wynstra of Kenosha, Carla (Tom) Hydeen of Orange City, Iowa, and Ruby (Cliff) Seeton of Racine; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Henry (Susie) Wynstra and Bernie (Marilyn) Wynstra; sisters, Ann Kuiper, Grace Walma, Theresa Wynstra, Tina Heisa and Henriett (Rev. John) Bylsma. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

Helen R. (Mutchler) Manteufel

Helen Ruth Manteufel passed away Monday, April 12, 2010, at Woodstock Health Care Center, Kenosha. She was born in Burlington, WI, October 19, 1924, daughter of the late Leo and Teresa (Nee: Vogt) Mutchler.

She was united in marriage to Edward F. Manteufel who preceded her in death January 20, 1981. She enjoyed bingo and the activities at Killarney Kourt. Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her four children, Edward (Brenda) Manteufel of Loveland, CO, Gary (Jean) Manteufel of Sturtevant, Ellen Manteufel of Sturtevant, Jean Janos of Wauwatosa, WI; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Geraldine Mutchler, Melvin Pfeiffer, and Hugh Roberts; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Mutchler; and sisters, Rosemary “Mitzi” Pfeiffer and Carol Roberts.

Jack Bernard Leyer

Jack Bernard Leyer, 76, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 11, 2010, in Racine, WI. Jack was a lifelong resident of Wisconsin. He was born in Steven’s Point on October 15, 1933, to the late Charles and Dorothy (nee: McDonald) Leyer. He was raised in Milwaukee and graduated from Boys Tech High School in 1951. He then joined The State of Wisconsin National Guard, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Jack spent his professional career in sales.  Driven by his fondness of interactions with customers and peers,  his early years included employment in the trades as a tile setter where his attention to detail started to develop. He was later employed by Adelman’s Laundry and Borden’s Dairy where his passion for customer service and people contact really grew.  

He then found his true calling as a salesman specializing in business forms. He was a Certified Forms Consultant and was employed as a salesman at Service International Business Forms, Arvey Business Forms and Midwest Business Graphics. He was an owner and partner at both FORMost Printing and Distributors Printing Services, Inc. In addition to his sales career, Jack enhanced his community by helping others throughout his life. 

He did volunteer work with the Scouting program, Giese Elementary School and Kiwanis Club of Greater Racine.  Later in life, he assisted guiding paramedic students in communication skills based on his personal life experiences and at Saint Mary’s Medical Center Men’s Auxiliary where his quick smile and charm offered a comfortable and caring atmosphere.

Jack was married on July 29, 1978, at River Bend Nature Center, to the former Ms. Colleen Meredith.  Jack is survived by his wife Colleen, his best friend and partner for over 30 years; children: Kathleen (Paul) Pflieger, Gary Leyer, Teresa (Melvin) Both, Gene (Sam Hyang) Meredith, Gregory Leyer, Robb (Becky) Meredith, and Janel Frazier; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Karen) Leyer; sister, Betty Bowes; and many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear long term friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Jean; and his brothers, Bill, Bob and Harry.

Jack enjoyed golfing; travelling; watching any type of sporting competition; reading – especially historical books and playing cards with family and friends. Above all, he loved being surrounded by his entire extended family and comforted with the watchful medical care of son Gary.

In accordance with Jack’s wishes, cremation will take place. In celebration of Jack’s life, a memorial visitation will occur on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. at Maresh-Meredith Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation on Thursday, April 15, 2010, from 10-11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 745 Main St., Racine, WI.   A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brad Van Fossen officiating. A reception and luncheon will immediately follow at Roma Lodge.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Kiwanis Club of Greater Racine or to a charity of your choice have been suggested.

Mary Susan Grosklaus

Mary S. Grosklaus, 53, passed away unexpectedly at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints on Sunday, April 11, 2010.

Mary Susan was born in Waukesha on September 20, 1956, and had lived in Racine County for most of her life.

Mary attended and worked at Careers Industries. Dr. Pepper and coffee were her favorite drinks. She expressed her love by coloring and enjoyed family get togethers and day trips throughout Wisconsin. She was a very loving and important person and she is deeply loved and missed by her family and friends. She brought so much joy to our lives.

Mary is survived by the Jill and Davey Torgerson family including: their daughter, Emily Beck; their sons, Keith and Dean Torgerson; and Duane Kraemer. She is also survived by Vicki Smith, Naomi Neuberger and many other relatives and friends.
