Bernard C. 'Bud' Pfost

Bernard C. "Bud" Pfost, age 84, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints.

Bernard was born in Racine, October 11, 1923, son of the late Arthur J. and Margaret (Nee: Roeschen) Pfost. During World War II, Bud proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps as a Technical Sergeant and Top Turret Gunner on a B-17 while stationed in Foggia, Italy.

On August 16, 1947, he was united in marriage to Gloria R. Surendonk who preceded him in death May 20, 1994. He was employed by Western Printing for forty-two years, retiring in 1983. Bud was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church. He attended Layton School of Art and during his retirement he enjoyed drawing Disney characters and making greeting cards. He was an avid dartball player for over fifty years and also an avid golfer. Bud belonged to the Washington Park Monday Senior Men’s League and was a fixture at the Shoop Park Golf Course, scoring a hole in one in 1993. Above all he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his children, Marcia L. Pfost, Mark B. Pfost, Nikki L. (Jeff) Benn; his four grandchildren, Michael (Lisa) Sapp, Peter Sapp, Rena (Brian) Weyrauch, Lisa (Jeremy) Mengert; his five great-grandchildren, Savannah and Addison Weyrauch, Owen and Adriana Sapp, Bryce Mengert; sister, Ann L. Wilson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Patricia Pfost, Cheryl (Roy) McCormick, Glenn (Dianne) Surendonk ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur T. Pfost and his brother-in-law, Winton Wilson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Avenue, Wednesday, June 4, 2008, 10:30 A.M. with Rev. G. Stobba OSA officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and Wednesday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. Rita Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mark Choi and the nurses and staff on 2D at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints for their loving and compassionate care.
