Thomas 'Mickey' E. Barton Jr.

Thomas “Mickey” E. Barton Jr., age 75, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Oak Ridge Care Center, Union Grove.   Thomas was born in Ashland, WI, on October 11, 1938, son of the late Thomas E. Barton Sr. and Gladys M. (Nee:  Dundovich).

Tom proudly served in the United States Air Force.  On October 30, 1964, in Rapid City, South Dakota, he was united in marriage to Delores K. Heffner.  He was employed by J.I. Case Company for over thirty years, retiring in 2000.   He was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church and the J.I. Case “20 Year Club.” Tom was a great mechanic who could repair anything from tractors to airplanes and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Tom was a great role model and father figure to many.  He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty years, Delores; his brothers and sisters, Edgar “Pepper” (Mary) Martin, Marilyn Kontny, Daniel (Barbara) Dundovich, Sherry (Lenny) Salawater, Carla (Paul) Schwenzfeier; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arlene (Warren) Burton, Teresa “Coco” Riedl, Phillip “Skip” Heffner (Beth), Michael (Peggy) Heffner, Annette “Annie” (David) Labrie; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Martin; and sister, Joyce Bjornson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.  Full Military Honors will follow.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m.

Della A. Westphal

Houston, TX -- It is with great sadness for her family and many beloved friends that Della A. (Hohenstein, Hargraves) Westphal, age 73, passed to her eternal rest on May 24, 2014.

She was born in Winnebago County and moved to Racine, and then to Houston where she worked very hard and was very blessed.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Hargraves of Humble, Texas, and Brian “Levi” Hargraves of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Christopher Hargraves, and Rorey Hargraves; and two great-grandchildren,  C.J. Hargraves and Charlotte Hargraves.

Funeral Services will be held at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 11507 Huffmeister Road, Houston, Texas, on May 28 at 10:30 a.m.  Rosary for Della will be said at 10 a.m.

The Rite of Committal will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32 in Racine, Wisconsin.

Jane S. (Kwas) Vogt

Jane S. Vogt, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan–All Saints Medical Center. Jane was born in Racine on August 12, 1938, daughter of the late John and Mary (nee: Stuelke) Kwas.

Jane had a fairly typical childhood as the eldest of nine children but at the age of 19 she decided to move to Germany; where she attended college and completed degrees in special education.  She continued to learn and became fluent in several languages.  In her younger years Jane enjoyed skiing both water and snow; she was a mountain climber and engaged in most sports including distance swimming at her family cottage in Door County. She collected old and forgotten dolls and returned them to their former beauty with new hairdos and period clothing.  She also loved to read and play scrabble. She will be sadly missed.

 Survivors include her siblings, John (Sandy) Kwas, Sue Rasmussen, Ann  (Norm) Plunkett, Rosemary Oteman (Terry) Breidenbach, Joe (Sherry) Kwas, Bill Kwas, Rich (Cheryl) Kwas, Lisa Stewart; step-children, Jochen (Marliease) Vogt, Angelika (Bernd),  both of Germany; nieces,  nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., on Monday, June 2, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Memorials to the Smile Train have been suggested.

Barbara H. (Putman) Erickson

Barbara H. Erickson, age 70, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Kenosha Memorial Hospital.  Barbara was born in Racine on August 16, 1943, daughter of the late Ora and Ann (Nee: Mandli) Putman.

On February 29, 1964, she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” R. Erickson.   Barbara enjoyed bird watching and rummage sales, and was also a collector of Cherished Teddies figurines. She will be fondly remembered for her fine cooking skills and famous chocolate chip cookies. Barbara was always willing to help others, placing their needs first. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of fifty years, Chuck; her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery Erickson of Oak Creek, James (Sherry) Erickson of Racine; daughter-in-law, Julie Erickson of Oak Creek; her grandchildren, Matthew (fiancee, Jenn Patton), Bryan, Ashley, Brittany and Jeremy; sisters, Sally (Ron) Verborg, Ann Marie Putman; brothers-in-law, Richard (Jean) Elias, Thomas (Linda) Elias, Theodore (Felicia) Elias; very dear cousin, Karen (Joe) Covelli; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Donald F. Bins

Donald F. Bins, age 86, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, Union Grove. Don was born in Green Bay, WI, on November 26, 1927, son of the late Fred and Edna (Nee: Lang) Bins.

On May 29, 1948, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Betty J. McEachern. Don proudly served in the United States Army during the Occupation of Japan. Don was the manager of Porter’s of Racine for thirty-seven years until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Don was a “Mister fix it” who enjoyed golfing and socializing. He treasured time with his family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Betty; his children, Larry (Bonnie) Bins, Chris (Don) Tellefsen, Connie (Lonnie) Poffenberger, all of Racine; nine grandchildren, Joel (Kaia) Beyer, Leigh (Greg) Pitts, Lauren (Bill) Rushing, Dena (Ben) Serwe, Jenna (Mitch) Kuhlman, Julie Tellefsen, Ellen (Norm) Ask, Jennifer (TJ) Owen, and Brian Bins; 17 great-grandchildren; other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert; and sister, Catherine (Robert) Richter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Rev. Terrance J. Huebner officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Andrew J. Steeves

Surrounded by his loving family, Andrew J. Steeves, age 24, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014, after a courageous battle with melanoma cancer. Andy was born in Racine on December 14, 1989, son of Dennis J. and Maureen (Nee:  LaFleur) Steeves.

Andy was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 2008,” and later from UW-Whitewater in 2012 with a B.S. in Finance.  He was recently employed by Miller-Coors as a Supply Planning Analyst.  He enjoyed baseball, softball, playing his guitar and hanging out with his friends.  He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his parents, Dennis and Maureen of Wind Lake; his fiancĂ©e, Taylor Bandy of Franklin; brother, Nick Steeves of Madison; grandmothers, LaVerne LaFleur, Joanne Steeves, both of Racine; aunts and uncles, Rick (Diane) Johannes of Oregon, WI, Thomas LaFleur of Verona, Tim LaFleur of West Virginia, Mary Kay (Dick) Sheforgen, Monica (Greg) DaPra, all of Racine, Diane (Bob) Hanson of Shawano, WI, Dale Steeves of Eau Claire, Ken Steeves of Baraboo; many cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony; grandfathers, Ray Steeves, Thomas LaFleur; uncle, Ted LaFleur; and aunt, Marcia Johannes.

Andrew Rosenquist

Andrew W. Rosenquist, age 27, a lifetime resident of Racine, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014.

Andrew was born October 10, 1986.

He is survived by his daughter, Melody Anne Rosenquist; his father, Lynn (Shelly) Rosenquist; mother, Kimberly Decker (Michael Kiser); his significant other, Liza Gonzales; his siblings, Christopher and Alexander Lambke and Nolan and Vivienne Rosenquist, as well as other extended family.

Margaret E. (Tajnai) Balog

Margaret E. Balog, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Becker-Shoop Center.  Margaret was born in Racine on February 22, 1921, daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Nee: Chauby) Tajnai.

On September 27, 1941, at St. Lucy Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Steve J. Balog Jr., who preceded her in death on February 14, 1980.  In her younger years she worked at Hamilton Beach and then Walker Manufacturing during World War II.  Margaret moved on to the most important job of raising her daughter and caring for her family.

She was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church. She was an excellent cook who will be fondly remembered for her delicious Hungarian meals.  Margaret enjoyed crosswords, and entered countless sweepstakes and jingle contests.   Most of all, she cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, and took great joy treating them to meals at various restaurants.  She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Janis (Gary) Gayhart; three grandchildren, Leslie (Timothy) Thilleman, Layni Gayhart (Chris Grefe), Steve Gayhart; two great-grandchildren, Tim and Taryn Thilleman; great-granddaughter, Addison Thilleman; sister, Annie Putra; brother, Steve Tajnai; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three infant children; brother, Joe Tajnai; and sister, Julie Conway.

Private family services will be held with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.

Delores 'Dee' I. (Romnek) Braun

Delores “Dee” I. Braun, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center.  Delores was born in Racine on March 15, 1935, daughter of the late Emory and Julia (Nee:  Podoba) Romnek.

On May 5, 1956, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church she was united in marriage to James L. Braun, who preceded her in death.    Dee was employed by Dremel for thirty years, retiring in 2000.  She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  She enjoyed spending time at the cabin up north, various casino trips, and Friday night fish fry's, but more than anything her family and grandchildren gave her the most joy of all.  She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her sons, Mark (Patricia) Braun, Scott (Barbara) Braun and Todd (Lorraine) Braun; four grandchildren, Jason, Cara, Matthew and Olivia, all of Racine; sister and brother, Kathleen Coffey of San Francisco, CA, James (Laurel) Romnek of Racine;  sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Norbert Wisniewski, Ruth Chaslovski,  Jean McMahon, Arthur Helding,  Mary Braun, all of Racine,  Audrey Romnek of Milwaukee, Thomas Braun of FL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including special friends Lorrie, Alta and Javelle. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Romnek; sister, Ruth Wisniewski; and brother-in-law, Warren Coffey.

Joanna F. (Daigle) Anderson

Joanna Faye Anderson, age 74, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center.  She was born in Baton Rouge, LA, on March 9, 1940, daughter of the late Horace and Dorothy (Nee: Stephens) Daigle.

Joanna was employed by Shepherd Ministries and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church.  Above all, she treasured time spent with her family.

Surviving are her seven children, Mitch (Cheryl), Carol, Rustine, Daniel, Damon, Jacob and Joseph (Kat); 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie, Barbara and Sue; other relatives and friends.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald.

A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 9122 Durand Ave., Sturtevant, on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, with Reverend Richard C. Rogers officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet at 2 p.m. with service at 2:30 p.m..

Zacarias Villalobos

Zacarias Villalobos, age 60, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at his residence.  Zacarias  was born in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico, on April 12, 1954, son of Valente and Maria (Nee:  Del Socorro) Villalobos.

Survivors include his wife, Josefina; his children, Leonel (Maribel) Villalobos, Flor (Ascencion) Reynoso, Juan Carlos (Samantha) Villalobos, Yesenia Elizabeth Villalobos, Marcos Villalobos, Jose Antonio Villalobos; his seven grandchildren, Jose, Luis, Omar, Arianna, Natalie, Sophia and Mia; parents, Valente and Maria Villalobos; brothers and sisters, Jesus (Maria) Villalobos, Alicia Villalobos, Lidia (Manuel) Rodriguez, Raul Villalobos, Manuel Villalobos, Graciela (Adan) Ruiz, Abel Villalobos; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Margaret (Petercsak) Ramig

Margaret Ramig, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the Becker-Shoop Center.  Margaret was born in Racine on October 21, 1917, daughter of the late Steven and Margaret (Nee:  Loucas) Petercsak.

On September 2, 1938, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Ramig, who preceded her in death on February 5, 2003.  Margaret was employed for over thirty years as a waitress at the Racine Elks Club and the YMCA. She was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. Margaret had a vast cookbook collection and enjoyed knitting. She was devoted to her family and will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James Ramig; and sisters, Geraldine (Gerhart) Kingsfield, Irene (Jack) Burke.  Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steven (Janet) Ramig; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

James J. DeLaat

James J. DeLaat, age 37, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at his residence.  James was born in Racine on September 29, 1976, son of Anthony DeLaat Jr. and Jenny (Nee:  Malik) Borgen.

On July 9, 2009, he was united in marriage to Leticia Espinoza.  He was employed by Piranha Shredding.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son and brother who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife, Leticia; his children, Gracie, Lilly and Jesse; his mother, Jenny (Russell) Borgen of Racine; brothers, Mathew Kaufman, Bradley (Kim) Kaufman, Brian DeLaat; other relatives and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony DeLaat Jr.; and grandfather, Vern Malik.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Preservation Hall of Racine, 740 Lake Avenue.  Memorials to the family have been suggested.

Harold 'Junior' C. Vague Jr.

Harold “Junior” C. Vague Jr., age 83, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Shawano Medical Center, Shawano, WI.  Harold was born in Oak Creek, WI, on June 13, 1930, son of the late Martha (Nee:  Sukkert) and Harold C. Vague Sr.

On July 7, 1951, he was united in marriage to Doris M. Burmeister.  Harold was known by many as Junior. He owned and operated Harold’s Tap for 46 years.  After many years of hard work he retired up north to his favorite place: the cabin.  His love of gardening and the outdoors brought many years of enjoyment.  He loved his flowers, gardening, fishing, and the joy of watching his family enjoy the cabin up north.  He will always be remembered for his kind heart and willingness to help anyone, with his many tools at hand.  He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-three years, Doris; his children, Cheryl Vague of Green Bay, WI, Jackie Vague (Karl) Nelson of Racine; six grandchildren, Emily Nelson, Joanne Vague, Kenny Vague, Billy Vague, Christina Vague and Lynn Callies; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Merle Vague of San Jose, CA; brother-in-law, Ron Burmeister of Racine; sister-in-law, Nellie Suzka of South Milwaukee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William Vague.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014, at 11 a.m. Interment will be held at Forest Hill Memorial Park, Oak Creek, WI.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.  Memorials to the family have been suggested.

Patrick H. Devine

Patrick H. Devine, age 52, passed away at his home on May 16 after a lengthy battle with cancer.  His family was with him.

Pat was born on August 3, 1961, graduated from St. Catherine's High School in the Class of 1979 and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. He was employed at the Waxdale facility of S.C. Johnson & Son for over twenty years until illness caused him to cease active work in February of 2013.

On May 28,1994, Pat and Dawn (Hultman) were married at Holy Name Church (now St.Richards of Chichester Parish) in Racine. Pat was a loyal, patient fan of the Chicago Cubs, enjoyed golf and bowling and followed the PGA Tour. He was a caring master of the many pets the family had through the years. He had an appreciation for quality movies and had a remarkable recall of lines out of the stories.

Family and faith were of utmost importance to him. He took an active interest in the activities of his children, providing guidance to assure homework assignments were completed and that the proper priorities were in order. He enjoyed and supported the volleyball, basketball and soccer teams of his children, especially those in the Racine County Youth Soccer Program. As to being a sound family man and a great Dad, Pat hit a solid .300.

Pat is survived by wife Dawn; daughter, Taylor; and son, Conor; his parents, Clem and Mary Ellen Devine; sisters, Carrie Devine of Boston and  Eileen Devine of Milwuakee; brother, Tom (Sofia) Devine of Cambridge, MA., father and mother-in law, Larry and Sylvia Hultman; sister and brother-in-law, Deede and Bobby Yerges; uncles and aunts, Dave and Sharon Devine of Racine, Bill and Sue Nelsen of Richardson, TX.; cousins, Dan (Renee) Devine of West Allis, Mike (Allie) of Madison, and Brad (Alex) Nelsen of Plano, TX.  Pat is also survived by nephew, Deaclan Devine; nieces, Elena Grimslid, Ciara Devine and Jessica Yerges; and great-nephew and niece, Kane and Tatum Yerges.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may meet Monday at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. and Tuesday at the church 10 a.m. until time of Mass.

Betty Lou Palubicki, age 81, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Hospitality Manor, Kenosha. Betty was born in Racine on November 17, 1932, daughter of the late John S. and Barbara (Nee: Szekley) Kovach.

On September 1, 1956, at St. Rose Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Clarence “Clem” J. Palubicki, who preceded her in death on September 19, 2009. Betty was a fabulous cook and party organizer, and enjoyed shopping for others. Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her family who will be deeply and sadly missed.

Survivors include her five children, Daniel (Melissa) Palubicki, Diane Matter, Donna (Scott) Hooten, Debra Palubicki, David (Paula) Palubicki, all of Racine; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Kay Dulski of Minneapolis, MN, Delas Palubicki of Perham, MN, Margaret Kovach and Virginia Kovach, both of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her great-grandchild, Nevin S. Matter; brothers and sister, John Kovach, William Kovach, Rudy Kovach and Elizabeth (Albert) Berry.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2014, in Racine at Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, 234 2nd Ave SW, Perham, MN, on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 11 a.m., followed by interment at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Thomas G. Manara

Wild Rose, WI -- Thomas Guy Manara, age 97, passed away on May 16, 2014, at Wild Rose Manor, Wild Rose, WI.  He was born in Buffalo, NY, on July 29, 1916, son of the late George and Provvidina (Nee: Valente) Manara.

Tom served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of Belle City Chapter 9 of the Disabled American Veterans.  He was employed by Massey Ferguson for many years.  Tom was a willing volunteer for the United Fund and any Senior Citizens events and was a charter member of the Memorial Hall Senior Center. He was a former member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are nieces and nephews, Maryann (Richard) Jacobi, Susan Petersen, Dale Daher, Troy (Mary) Halvorsen; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ada Koss and Eola Prevratil.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Kinzie Avenue.

Corey J. Pansch, age 34, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at his residence.  Corey was born in Racine on January 16, 1980, son of Herbert and Jean (Nee:  Burdick) Pansch.

Survivors include his parents, Herbert and Jean; brothers and sisters, Richard Pansch, Cynthia (Ben) Parler, Daniel (Carol) Pansch, Linda VanDommelen, Randee Caroll and Diana (Ron) Bantz; nephew, Brody; other relatives and many dear friends.

Rodney 'Ozzie' L. Nelsen

Rodney “Ozzie” L. Nelsen, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Becker Shoop Center.  He was born in Racine on September 6, 1928, son of the late Alfred and Myrtle Nielsen.

On March 13, 1965, he was united in marriage to Sandra L. Falkner.  Ozzie was employed at Hamilton Beach for twenty-one years, last working at Silver Steel, retiring in 1985.  He was a member of the Racing Pigeon Club and enjoyed dogs.   More than anything, he enjoyed chasing his grandchildren.  He will be deeply missed.

Survivors  include his loving wife of forty-nine years, Sandra; his seven children, Margie Nelsen of Racine, Judy (Joseph) Foss of Sturtevant, Michael (Ermelinda) Nelsen, Jessica (Michael) Cranley, Daniel (Kelly) Nelsen, Peter Nelsen, all of Racine, Robert (Amanda) Nelsen of Lansing, MI; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Nelson of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Geraldine Nelsen, Anna May Wottlin, Betty Lou Matterer; brother, Alfred Nelsen Jr.; his adopted Sears family, Ruth, Alice, Millie and Louie.

Thomas J. Erickson Sr.

Thomas J. Erickson Sr., age 89, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in Union Grove.  Thomas was born in Chicago, IL, on September 24, 1924, son of the late Bert and Blanche (Nee:  Rostron) Erickson.

During World War II he proudly served in the United States Army in Europe with the 39th Signal Construction Battalion.  On May 13, 1950, at St. Joseph Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Gloria J. Foley, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2002.

Throughout his career he was employed by A & P Grocery, St. Joseph School and Nestle, and retired from Denver Lutheran High School in 1986.  He enjoyed crafts, creating beautiful stained glass, woodworking, stitching, painting, playing cards and traveling.  More than anything, he cherished time with his family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his six children, Kathleen (Robert) Wenzloff of West Allis, Thomas Erickson Jr. and Michael Erickson of Racine, David Erickson of Littleton, CO, Susanne (Gary) Friedrich of Mt. Pleasant, Donald Erickson of Lakewood, CO; his eleven grandchildren, Erica and Rebecca Wenzloff, James Erickson, Emily (Joseph) Paolone, Julia (Greg) Anders, Benjamin Friedrich, Kimberly Erickson-Beavis, Anthony, Mandie, Christopher and Matthew Erickson; his three great-grandchildren, Abrianna, Alexis and Autumn Erickson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerome  Foley, James  Foley, Clyde (Rosi) Foley; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Erickson; his brother, Russell Erickson; and sister, Marion Kristiansen.

Vicki A. (Voss) Stefka

Surrounded by her loving family, Vicki A. Stefka, age 59, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2014, at her daughter’s residence after a hard fought battle with cancer.  Vicki was born in Racine on July 21, 1954, daughter of the late Robert W. and Jean R. (Nee: Kozel) Voss.

Vicki attended Sacred Heart Grade School and was a 1972 graduate of William Horlick High School. Vicki’s life and love for education grew exponentially once she began working for Gateway in 1999. Since then, she has earned two Associate Degrees, traveled to Germany and continued working towards her bachelor’s degree.  Vicki most recently served as a New Student Specialist, a position she loved and invested tireless hours in helping others. She was also a member of St. Mary’s by the Lake Catholic Church.  Vicki was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her children, Eric (Stephanie) Stefka of CA, Aimee (Joseph) Wendt of Racine; her five grandchildren, Jayden Wendt, Tyler Wendt, Derrick Stefka, Mya Wendt and Grady Wendt; sisters, Bobbi (James) Jordan of Racine, Kathy (David) Dulan of Racine; life-long friend, Susan Costabile of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s by the Lake Catholic Church, 7605 Lakeshore Drive, on Friday May 16, 2014, at 5 p.m., with Rev. Stephen Stradinger and Rev. Brian Holbus concelebrating.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 3 p.m. until time of Mass at 5 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Sandra 'Sam' K. (Singstock) Mott

Sandra “Sam” K. Mott, age 52, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at her residence.   Sam was born in Richmond, Virginia, on June 21, 1961, daughter of Robert and Willadene (Nee: Lovell) Singstock.

Sam was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1979.”  On August 13, 2005, she was united in marriage to Gary W. Mott.  She was a member of the Moose Lodge #437.  An avid gardener, Sam also enjoyed crafts, decorating, shopping, camping and traveling, especially to Cancun where she enjoyed the beach.  She will be fondly remembered for her caring, generous spirit and her willingness to always lend a helping hand.  She will be deeply missed.

Joe Louis Edwards Sr.

Joe Louis Edwards Sr., age 71 lost his battle to Lymphoma Cancer on Friday, May 9, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan - All Saints Medical Center. Joe was born in New Albany, MS, on October 19, 1942, son of Joe N. Edwards and Verlean (Nee: Pulliam) Ragland.

Joe retired from Silver Steel after thirty-three years of employment.   Joe was a devout Christian and read the Bible first thing every morning.  He loved fishing, playing dominoes and cards, listening to the blues and feeding his birds.  More than anything he treasured time spent with his family.  He will be deeply missed.

Norman P. Miller

Norman P. Miller, 93, passed away at home on May 9, 2014.  Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Louise Miller; father-in-law, Frank, and mother-in-law, Alice Lannoye; brothers, Bernard and Richard; sister, Lucille Lichter; brothers-in-law, Harry Lichter, Stanley Penczykowski, John Gyurina, Robert Burke, William Gursky, Harry Fischer, Vernon Lannoye, Edmund Lannoye; sisters-in-law, Betty Miller, Patricia Lannoye, Vivian Sanders, Marjorie Lannoye, Betty Lannoye, Joan Lannoye and Juanita Lannoye.

He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Phyllis; daughter, Pamela (Mark) Reichelderfer; son, Robert; grandchildren, James Tye, Matthew (Catherine) Tye, Abigail (Shawn) Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Sophia, Emma, Jack and Eloise; brothers and sisters,  Frank (Dolores) Miller, John (Helen) Miller, Dolores Burke, Geraldine Gursky, Gladys Penczykowski, Jean Fischer, Joyce Gyurina; sisters-in-law, Beverly (Peter) Mandli, Vivian De Groot; brother-in-law, Richard Lannoye; and eighty-four nieces and nephews.

Norm married Phyllis at St. Edward Church. He served in the U.S. Army on domestic duty during World War II. He was born and raised on a farm and started his own farm in Mt. Pleasant, raising tomatoes, cabbage, potatoes and grain. With Phyllis, he started Durand Driving Range & Miniature Golf in 1957, semi-retiring in 1983, working at and overseeing the business until its close in 1996.  He was a longtime member of St. Edward’s Church, active in the Holy Name Society and an active leader and chair of its annual Fall Smoker card party.  In retirement, Norm enjoyed his family, gardening, golf, blackjack and traveling throughout Wisconsin, and in winter, Florida.

Norm will be remembered as a hard-working husband and father who treasured his marriage and was devoted to his family.  He was a devout Catholic whose faith was very important to him.  Norm had a great sense of humor, took pride in his farm produce and the environment of his business which helped many people enjoy the game of golf.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at 6 p.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Ave., with Rev. Richard Molter and Rev. William Burkert concelebrating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church Thursday from 4-6 p.m.  Private interment with Full Military Honors will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover.

The family has suggested memorials to St. Edward’s Parish or to The Norman & Phyllis Miller Scholarship at the St. Catherine's High School Foundation.

Jeron K. Chapman Sr.

Jeron Kelly Chapman Sr., age 71, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. He was a Christmas Baby in December 1941, born to Kelly and Mildred Chapman in Iron Mountain. He later moved to Racine and married his high school sweetheart, Joanne, in 1960.

Shortly after, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific and Vietnam campaigns. After serving four years in the Navy, Jeron went to work at Racine Hydraulics in 1964 and retired thirty-eight years later when the company was known as Bosch Rexroth.

Jerry started his own business in 1972 under the name of Chap’s Refrigeration and A.C. for many successful decades. He cherished becoming a member of the VFW Post 1391 in 1990, and joining the Cootie Seam Squirrel for Pup Tent 5. Jerry was noted for his volunteering and helping out whenever needed.

Through the years, Jerry enjoyed all sports, including dirt biking and ice racing on his motorcycle, golfing and archery. His biggest love was hunting and fishing. As he said, “A bad day of fishing was better than any good day at work.”

Jerry left behind his wife, Joanne; a legacy of three beautiful children, Jacqueline (Larry) Kohel, Jennifer (Skip) Maletta, Jeron (Kelly) Chapman Jr.; two wonderful grandchildren, Jessica and Andrew Maletta; a sister, Evelyn (Jon) Anderson; his twin sister, Sharon Schwulst; other relatives and many good friends.

A funeral service followed by Full Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends may meet at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until time of service. Private interment will be held at Graceland Cemetery.

Carol Jean Nelmark

Carol Jean (Demboski) Nelmark, 73, of Mount Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital surrounded by her husband, Ken Nelmark; two daughters, Linda (Greg) Bayless and Charlene (Philip) Avila; and son, Jason Nelmark.

Carol was a very special lady with a beautiful smile that caught her husband’s eye and love at first sight. She loved talking and it was easy with her, and her many interests and great sense of humor. Carol loved going places like shopping, going to the library, reading -- especially cookbooks, animals, holidays and wearing cute pajamas.

Carol will be dearly missed by all, but especially by her husband, Ken, whom she shared 56 years of such a happy marriage.  In addition to Carol's immediate family, Carol also had four grandchildren, Randy,  Ryan, Bjorn and Kalina; brother and sisters-in-law, Reno, Maryann, Jeanette, Carol, Marlene, Bonnie, Mark and Michael; Carol's dear friends, Barbara, Gerty and Kathy amongst others. Carol was preceded in by death by her parents, John and Ethel Demboski; her son, John; in-laws, Oscar and Limpy Nelmark; brother and sisters-in-law, Ronnie, Eddie and Diane.

Herbert N. Meisner

New Berlin, WI -- Herbert N. Meisner, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Linden Grove, New Berlin, WI.  Herb was born in Bloomer, WI, on August 27, 1923, son of the late Albert and Della (Nee:  Gunderman) Meisner.

During World War II Herb proudly served in the United States Army.  On August 11, 1962, in Greenwood, WI, he was united in marriage to Margaret A. Perman.  Herb was employed for several years by Racine Unified School District at William Horlick High School (1963-1983) as an Industrial Education teacher.   He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, lifetime member of the American Legion, and 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Racine Council #697.

An avid Packer and Brewer fan, Herb also was a lover of tools and woodworking.  He spent many winters in Harbor Lakes Park, FL, and summers at his cottage on Conners Lake in Winter, WI.  Most of all, Herb was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-one years, Margaret; his children, John (Paula) Meisner of New Richmond, Ann (Chris) DeMeulenaere of Brookfield, Matt (Jodi) Meisner of Crystal Lake, IL; his nine grandchildren, Emma, Ellen and Andrea Meisner, Rachael, Gus and Riley DeMeulenaere, Luke, Noah and Tess Meisner; sisters-in-law, Joanne Meisner of Chippewa Falls, Virginia Perman of St. Paul, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Elisabeth (Bendrin) Muir

Surrounded by her family, Elisabeth Muir, age 84, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014, at Kindred North of Kenosha, following six years of health challenges.  She was born in Tolkemit, Germany, on April 1, 1930, daughter of the late Hermann and Anna (Nee: Fischer) Bendrin.

On March 31, 1955, in Orkney, Scotland, she was united in marriage to James W. Muir. Together they moved to Racine in 1960.  Elisabeth will be remembered for working at DeRose’s Bar for many years.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was an exceptional cook and baker who also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. Above all, it was time spent with her family she treasured the most.  She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Jim; her son, James W. Muir; daughter-in-law, Renate Muir; grandchildren, Jessica Aschenbrenner (fiancĂ©, Gene Sems), John Muir; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Liam Aschenbrenner; sister, Ingrid (Ernst) Argstatter; brother-in-law, John Muir; nieces, nephews, close caring friend, Joella (Ron) Coutts; other relatives and dear friends.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert J. Muir; and her sister, Adelheid (Branko) Zoric.
