Lilyann L. (Ehlert) Yokel

Lilyann L. Yokel (Lil) was born in Mondovi, WI. March 7, 1916, to Cora and Richard Ehlert.  On graduation from high school she pursued an office career in Rockford, IL, where she met and married Edward Yokel. They lived and started their family in Rockford before moving to Racine in 1950.

Lilyann did volunteer work in several offices in Rockford and Racine. Her compassion for people facing challenges led to many years of volunteer work in Racine nursing homes and support of charitable organizations.  Lilyann expressed her artistic talents and love of nature in many ways. She had a special interest in conifer-bearing trees, collected and studied cones, displayed them in Racine plus other locations, and wrote an article about them.  She had many active roles in the Racine Garden Club where she was recognized with life membership and a VIP / Golden Trowel Award for her longstanding and outstanding contributions of talents and time. She expressed her artistic creativity in painting and crafts, working with a variety of materials. She was an active member and volunteer of First United Methodist Church and a Sunday School teacher.

Lilyann was a sister to five brothers, all deceased. She is survived by husband, Edward; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Susan; son, John; son, Philip; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many dear friends.  She will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 745 Main St., on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Brad Van Fossen officiating.  Private interment for family will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, Lilyann requested memorial donations be made to Nature Conservancy, 4245 N.
