Marilyn Nechuta, age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at The Elizibeth Residence in Oak Creek. Marilyn was born in Racine on January 2, 1933, daughter of the late Henry and Louise (Nee: Kroupa) Schmoll.
On May 9, 1953, she was united in marriage to Glenn Nechuta, who preceded her in death on January 25, 1998. Marilyn was a homemaker and her joy was devoting her life to her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, sharing a special bond with Raechel and Cassie, the only two grandchildren in town. She (and Glenn when alive) would love to take them to the pumpkin farm, Hardees for kids' night and anywhere and any chance they could. She also had the wonderful pleasure of meeting her first great-grandson this July: Rowan Schmitz
Being a homemaker, all of her children knew when you came home from school and swung that back door and yelled, “Mom, I’m home!” she’d greet you with a half-sandwich, Hostess treat and milk. She also made the BEST cut-out Christmas cookies and homemade frosting. She loved anything with a cat on it and has many sweaters to prove it. She was an extreme couponer before there was a word for that; always the bargain hunter. She used every single holiday as an excuse to buy cards or gifts for her loved ones. Marilyn led a quiet, simple life but touched the life of many people and taught her family what was really important.
Survivors include her children, Terry (Marion) Nechuta of NJ, Randy (Rebecca) Nechuta of MI, Diana (Scott) Limbach of Racine; seven grandchildren, Erich and Danielle Nechuta, Sarah Nechuta-Schmitz, Scott Nechuta and Timothy Nechuta, Raechel and Cassie DeChenne; and one great-grandson, Rowan Schmitz; as well as other relatives and friends. She also leaves behind her special niece, Susie, who for years would help take her on errands and spend time with her.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry (Linda) Nechuta; two brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Saturday at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until time of service at 9:30 a.m.
A special thank you for the Care Staff at Elizibeth Residence in Oak Creek for showing my mother love, kindness and concern above and beyond what would have been expected.
In memory of Marilyn, memorials to the Salvation Army of Racine or Care Net Family Resource Center of Racine is suggested.
As Marilyn said to her family: Don’t say goodbye… say, See Ya Later, Alligator!

Theodore F. Luba
Theodore F. Luba, age 89, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. He was born in Racine on April 12, 1925, son of the late John and Anna (Nee: Kopichinski) Luba.
On November 15, 1952, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Joanne A. Menden. Ted was employed by The Horlick Corp. and then by Walker Forge for 17 years. He worked for the Mt. Pleasant Sewer Dept. for 20 years, retiring in 1990. Ted was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and the Friday Optimist Club, where he created and implemented the most improved student award for area middle school students. He served on the Mt. Pleasant Park Commission and volunteered with the Racine Senior Volunteer Program and Toys for Tots.
Ted grew up in a close-knit Polish family. He loved to tell about his adventures of growing up, both as a little boy and also hanging out in Racine and Sturtevant with his two best friends, Jim Washebek and Ernie Urdiales. Both of these friends stood up for him when he married the love of his life, Joanne. Joanne and Ted met when he applied at the Horlick Malted Milk Company, where his future bride worked in human resources. Malted Milk tablets became a traditional Christmas gift to their kids and always brought back memories of this momentous meeting.
Ted also spread joy to the kids of his and his co-workers at Walker Forge, working on the annual Christmas Party committee. There he helped pick out and give age group presents for all of the employees' kids, arrange for treat and fruit bags and, of course, a visit with Santa.
When the forge shop shut down during the 100 degree temperatures and the foundry was too hot for the company to safely work, he came home, piled all of his kids and wife into the station wagon and headed out to Brown’s Lake for an afternoon in the water. His favorite times were being with friends and family.
Since money was tight, some of his weeks off in summer for vacation were spent at home or renting a cabin in Eagle River, Pembine, or other palaces “Up North.” That green Dodge station wagon, (complete with the traditional fins), was well used to venture to the drive-in theater, traveling the 1,000 miles to Florida with the family to visit his friends, and one summer, to take everyone and head out to Washington, DC, to see the White House, monuments and Arlington National Cemetery.
He loved the annual trips to Paper Valley for Thanksgiving weekend, Easter brunch at Vicki’s and Frank’s, any family cookout or get-together, backyard parties at all of his kid’s homes and, later, traveling with JoAnne. Together, they adventured in Spain, Peru, the Galapagos Islands, the Bahamas and Cancun, as well as on cruises and the Mediterranean. Ted loved life, being with people, and never met anyone that he didn’t have a smile for. Even today, people get a smile on their face when they talk about him and often comment about what a character he was. Ted was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife, children, Vicki (Frank) Jarosz, Terri (John) Tessmann, John (Diane) Luba, Joey (Karen) Luba, Cindy Tessmann; grandchildren, Matthew (Sally) Jarosz, Rachel (Tighe) Ittner, Meaghan Tessmann, Peter (Kelsey) Tessmann, Kaeleigh Tessmann, Ericka Luba, Nicole (Ryan) Price, Joshua Luba, John Luba, Yash Luba, Grace Luba, Tiffany Tessmann, Ryan (Jenna) Tessmann, Tyler Tessmann; great grandchildren Ian, Katie, Ryan, Nathan, Kurt, Drew, Lily, Austin, Morgan; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred (Frances) Menden, Audrey Ragan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded by his sisters, Alice Lesko, Jean Marcinek, Stella Kozich and Harriett Erickson; and his brothers John, Walter, and Chester.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Rev. William Dietzler officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Additional visitation will be on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m.
A special thank you to all of his caregivers through the years for their loving care and support.

Mary Jane (Petersen) Acklam
Mary Jane Acklam, 93, passed to eternal life at Alexian Hospice Care on August 4, 2014. At her side was her beloved daughter, Mary (Acklam) DeManche, and husband Larry.
Mary Jane was born in Racine, WI, on February 13, 1921, to the late Jonas and Kristine (Nee: Bundeson) Petersen. On March 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to George Acklam. She and her husband, George, retired to Minocqua, WI, in 1982. After George’s passing in 2003, Mary Jane remained in the Minocqua area until 2010, when she moved to the Chicago area to reside with her daughter, Mary, and son-in-law, Larry.
A love of faith, family and friends guided her through life. She was an active member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Racine, where she sang in the choir and participated in Bible study groups. Later she joined Calvary Lutheran Church in Minocqua, WI, where she sang in the choir, was a frequent reader of the liturgy and an active volunteer.
Her concern and caring for others extended beyond those usually considered “relatives” to anyone who needed a close friend or a warm hug. She was always encouraging others to call her “Mom” and welcomed guests into her home and to join in a meal. Mary Jane had a real zest for life -- she enjoyed playing piano, singing, knitting, golfing, bowling, playing cards and learning anything new.
Her joy of nature included the birds and butterflies found around their northwoods home and flowers of all kinds. Of special pleasure to Mary Jane were the summer visits at the lake with her grandsons. Her quiet, witty sense of humor, delivered unexpectedly and with a twinkle in her eye, were with her to the very end. She could make everyone smile even in the most challenging of times.
Mary Jane is survived by her sons, Todd (Janet) Acklam of Grass Valley, CA, and Jay (Dolly Kovera) Acklam of Kenosha, WI; daughters, Kris Acklam (Mike Green) of Yuma, AZ, And Mary (Larry) DeManche of Streamwood, IL; grandsons, Tyler Albright of Racine and Taylor Albright of Yuma, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, greatnieces, greatnephews and dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, George, she was preceded in death by her three sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 3319 Washington Ave., with Pastor John Bischoff officiating.
