John 'Curt' Pippenger

John “Curt” Pippenger, age 72, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center. Curt was born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 7, 1942, son of the late John and Ruth (Nee: Gourd) Pippenger and was raised in Dearborn and Manchester, Michigan.

Curt proudly served his country with the United States Navy. On July 22, 1978, at St. Edward Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Barbara A. Greene.

He was employed as a Field Engineer at NCR Corporation for thirty-seven years. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Educators Credit Union, claiming it was the best job he ever had.

Curt was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Dairyland Theatre Organ Preservation Society, and Snomad Ski Club. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels. An avid traveler and train enthusiast, Curt also enjoyed making stained glass and photography. More than anything, he cherished time with his family. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-six years, Barbara; his children, Daniel (Patricia) Pippenger of Richmond, VA, Lara Leaf (Steve Stolarick) of Highland Park, IL, Rebecca Pippenger (Paul Van Opens) of Baltimore, MD; his five grandchildren, Katie, Ellie, Stuart, Fiona and Benjamin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas (Karen) Greene of Marion, NC; other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Curryer; and his sister, Louise McLean.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at noon at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Ave., with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass at noon. Private interment will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Eagle Harbor, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Meals on Wheels or to St. Vincent de Paul Society have been suggested.
